Need New York Favour...
 

Hi,

I need a favour from TFP New Yorker, can someone who passes a bank or currency place just get me the tourist rate for UK pound sterling. I'm trying to work out if it's better to get my currency here or wait until I get to the big apple.

Over here I can get $1000 for £547 including all commision charges etc. I figure if the rate is anywhere less than £0.5 to $1 it's worth me bringing cash and converting over there.

i just spoke with a representative from chase manhattan, and if you walk into any of their branches today, they're offering it at 1.7187 GBP to 1 USD. that's gonna run you 581 GBP

I wouldn't use the exchange counters at the airports, their rates tend to be quite high. If you have an ATM card -- there are cash machines all over the city and airports, you'd get whatever the daily exchange rate is for that day.

Thats brilliant, thanks very much, in those terms, I'm getting 1.83 over here, so nearly 12 cents more to the pound. I'm looking to do about £1000 so it works out quite a lot extra. Thanks for the URL, I'll keep an eye on that in the coming weeks.

Thanks for the tip on the ATM, I'll look to my bank to see what the charges are like.
