Well, I was definitely unplanned, or a "big surprise" as my dad calls it.
My father was an alcoholic and his health was declining. On recommendation from a friend and nurse, he decided to sober up and headed off to detox/rehab. He was in detox for quite a while, but the exact length was never clear to me. Almost exactly 9 1/2 months following his release from detox, I was born. I'd say he was VERY happy to see mom when he got home.... Funny thing about it was, my father at the time was 45 years old and mom was 35. They already had 3 children , the oldest 14 and the youngest was 8 at the time... then came me. Under the circumstances, in the world of Alcoholics Anonymous (of which my father is still a heavily participating member at age 68 (24 years of sobriety, w00t!), I am referred to as a "Sobriety Baby." Kind of an interesting story, although kinda long. Sorry for the lengthy post. |

neither I, nor my brother and sister were planned. i was born when my mom was in the middle of nursing school and my parents had been married for 5 years already. my moms doctor had told her that she would never be able to have kids. i think they took that as a reason to not use birth control.
my brother was born right before my mom went to law school, and my sister right before they got divorced. |

I was a happy accident. My mom was using the sponge as her primary method of birth control (high failure rate) and thus I was conceived. For years I thought I had been conceived in wedlock, but alas, the marriage license disproved that one. My mom says now that they had been planning on getting married anyways, or at least knew that was where they were heading, and I just kind of rushed things along a little.

My mother was 15 when she got pregnant. In 1959 that was outrageous! Good girls didn't do "That sort of thing". My mum told 'em all to fuck off. She was gonna keep me and "fuck the lot of you"! Good move. She ended up marrying him and it lasted less than a year. The next guy she didn't even bother with the marriage stuff - I got a brother out of that union.

Sorta planned/sorta not.
My parents had been trying for years with no luck, and then my mom found out she was diabetic. The doctors told her not to have any kids (harmful to her and the baby) but seeing as they hadn't had any luck up till this point, they just carried on as usual... and here I am! That's why I'm an only too. It's too bad, 'cause they wanted lots of kids... |
