Ever buy a movie or such and have no time to...

arrrggg watch the damn thing....

we got in late and having a 4500 square foot concrete pour this morning at 6 am

i missed out on seeing chronicles of riddic at the movies .. now i have it sitting here on dvd. in 50 min i have to be at work yet the pain of it is killing me. I love to read books and watch movies. sigh

I need one of those portable dvd players i guess.

Why couldnt we have been set up with 36 or 48 hour days. now that would be nice in a sense.

knowing full well someone here will open my new movie and watch it before i get home then go "dude that movie owns" then ill have to sit and hear that person make comments or tell tale signs a cool part is coming up. Death becomes them.

tropple 11-17-2004 03:40 AM

Man, I have that problem all the time. I pick up several movies every month, but I probably only see one a month. Work, commuting, fixing stuff in the house... I probably have 2 hours free the whole month.

joeyaz 11-17-2004 04:08 AM

I have a few movies I have not watched yet. I don't know why I buy them.. It really bugs me when I rent from blockbuster and I pay a late fee because of the stupid return by noon policy and I didn't even watch it !

Nefir 11-17-2004 07:13 AM

I had the classic Star Wars trilogy DVD set sitting around for over a month before I finally got around to watching it... Damn. Thats an extra month I could have spent being angry at Lucas for screwing things up at the end of RotJ :D

Cynthetiq 11-17-2004 07:16 AM

I have over 100 DVDs still sealed in the box... some are from when I first started my collection in 1998 when I could get DVDs via bargains and coupons for avg $5.

I can't even begin to list them...

Ydde 11-17-2004 07:18 AM

Yes I do, I got a boring romantic movie that's sitting around for ages actually.

Gift from the girlfriend, deliberately stash it some corner in the hope she would forget, not going to watch it anytime soon I guess. :D

Not that I had I any time to do so anyway.

MSD 11-17-2004 07:36 AM

I still haven't gotten around to watching the Blair Witch Project

quadro2000 11-17-2004 07:50 AM

I have a bunch of things that I felt I "had" to own, like the Back To The Future box set and even the Simpsons boxes, and I just don't get through them. It's funny because if BTTF were to come on TV while channel surfing, I'd probably watch it. Same with the Simpsons.

If I get the Indiana Jones and Star Wars boxes, I'm certain it'll be the same damn problem...

Once I buy a laptop, I imagine this will be less of a problem, as I'll be able to take advantage of long car and plane trips and watch movies.

JumpinJesus 11-17-2004 08:24 AM

And I thought I was one of the only ones who did this. We buy about 2 or 3 movies a month. There have been many times when we've had an afternoon or evening free, decide to watch a movie, open our DVD cabinet and say, "When did we get this movie??"

f6twister 11-17-2004 08:34 AM

I have DVD's sitting in my cabinet from Christmas 2002 that I haven't watched. The sad part is, everytime I actually get a chance to watch one, my wife decides that she doesn't want to watch them that night and rents a movie she wants. Isn't marriage fun?

StephenSa 11-17-2004 09:10 AM

Sure, I sometimes buy a movie when its a real bargain and know if I wait I'll have to pay more. I've got six or seven sitting around I've not gotten to but I bought'em so they aren't going anywhere. Good stash for a sick day or when the cable goes out.

tropple 11-17-2004 09:36 AM

I've been considering buying another television and a no-bells-and-whistles dvd player. I'd put the cheap dvd on the old tv where the cable is and put the the hometheater on my new, large TV.

My wife is a slow convert to DVD. She still has VHS tapes and would rather use them than a DVD. Arggh.

Drider_it 11-17-2004 05:58 PM

omg short day.. got the concrete down and made it back by 1pm heh good movie.. now i gotta wait till the 23 to get harry potter 3.. sigh

i walked around wal mart for 15 min looking for a movie on dvd to buy.. i hate home town stores. im not working tomorrow cuz of the rain here in louisiana. now i got nothing to do but troll around the house.

the one damn day i have to watch movies .. pfffft

BoltedDown 11-17-2004 06:04 PM

I don't usually watch too many movies, but I often wish that there were more hours in the day.

You get rolling on some project and before you know it... it's getting late and you've got something terribly trivial you have to do, like sleep...

Paradise Lost 11-17-2004 06:20 PM

I had my parents tape a bunch of old movies off of TCM for me last year while I was up at school... Even though I had NO JOB during the summer, and all the free time in the world, I watched exactly 0 of the movies they taped for me. Ended up seeing half of them during the summer on TCM itself. :P

Because of this I've learned to never ever buy VHSs or DVDs... Would just be a huge waste of money.

tropple 11-18-2004 03:52 AM

I've stopped buy DVDs from stores unless the price is extremely good. Pricewise, I'm always better off buying the from deepdiscountdvd or other online vendor with free shipping and no sales tax.

I'll watch mine soon. Winter is coming and I will be much more comfortable in the house. I don't go out much when it's cold out.

legolas 11-18-2004 08:13 AM

yea, i don't really buy dvds that's often but even with the few i do buy, i end up having no time to watch it. it feels really good once you finally see it though. probably better than if you were to just watch it when you first got becuase of all the anticipation built up.

Vortex22 11-18-2004 08:16 AM

I still have a copy of The Usual Suspects sitting here unopened. I'd watch it right now, but I have to go to damn work in an hour.

Catmandu 11-18-2004 01:04 PM

Somewhere along the way my addictive personality switched from sugar to DVD buying. Like others, I've got a ton I haven't seen yet. However, I do open them & check for scratches or fingerprints!

Screw work. Watch it now.

DVD's are like fine wine, they need to sit on the shelf for a while to mature. Just this Monday I took a sick day and watched Master and Commander for the first time. Arrsome stuff!

aurigus 11-19-2004 06:33 AM

I think all of the advertising works on us, I do the same thing. Buy the DVD today! Ok, whatever you say Mr. Advertising voice.

I have a few that are still unopened.

The funny thing is, for 50% of the DVDs i've bought I've only watched them once. It really doesn't make sense to buy them if you think of it that way.

inharmony 11-19-2004 06:36 AM

Done this a few times. I agree it is a waste if you buy and only watch once. I do like buying and watching sets ie. friends, dead like me.

lpj8 11-19-2004 09:55 AM

I definately have this problem with movies in particular. I do the blockbuster online deal with my wife, and she gets movies that she wants, and I get movies that I like, and she'll watch hers in a day, and it will take me weeks before I get to watch mine. She gets mad at me because the longer I keep movies out, the less we get overall. So sometimes, I just end up sending the movies back so she can get something that she wants.

unregistered092 11-19-2004 06:34 PM

the worst is when you buy a movie after seeing it in the theaters, then always thinkng "meh, i already saw it" when going to watch again.

alansmithee 11-19-2004 06:53 PM

Not only do I have around 10 DVD's I haven't watched, but I frequently rent movies I never watch. I have a $10 fine at my fave video store, from movies I rented, and kept late planning to watch. I only watched 2 out of the 5 :(.
