Horror flicks: What are the best.....
What are the best:
Horror Flick overall Horror Character (Human or otherwise) Horror Actor Horror Actress Horror Scene Horror film special effect |
Horror Flick Overall - Day of the Dead
Horror Character - Jason Voorhees Horror Scene - Tie between Freddy VS Jason final fight & Dawn of the Dead remake first ten minutes. Both scenes put a huge smile on my face. Horror film special effect - I can't pick just one, but I guess also Day of the Dead. Exorist would come in second. I'm sure I will change my mind on these, but I just watched several Jason movies recently and its the first thing that pops into my head. |
Don't watch them that much. Mrs Mephisto gets nightmares if I make scary faces at her.
The one that I remember most was the original Salem's Lot mini-series. Best Overall: Salem's Lot Best Character: The vampire's familiar. (Can't remember his name) Best Actor: David Soul :-) Best Actress: No idea. Neve Campbell looked good in the Scream trailers I saw. :) Best Scene: The kid vampire floating outside the window scraping at the glass Best effect: At the time, the scene were the main character changes into a werewolf in the original "An American Werewolf in London" film. Kinda dated now I guess. Mr Mephisto |
Horror Flick overall The Shining (Kubrick!)
Horror Scene The Ring, where the girl climbs out of the TV to kill the kid's dad Horror film special effect The spider-walk down the stairs in the Exorcist Eep! Gives me the willies but I love it. |

Here is the order of the series: Night of the Living Dead 1968 (Director: George Romero) Dawn of the Dead 1978 (Romero) Day of the Dead 1985 (Romero) Night of the Living Dead Remake 1990 (Tom Savini) Dawn of the Dead Remake 2004 (Zack Snyder) Romero is currently making LAND OF THE DEAD though!!! The fourth installment in the Dead series, I can't wait!! It would be nice to see a GOOD zombie flick that Hollywood doesn't fuck up. (I.e Resident Evil 1, 2, House of the Dead. UGH) We don't need garbage like that. |
Best horror flick EVER?? Damn....five nominees. The Exorcist, Night Of The Living Dead, Psycho, Halloween, and Nosferatu. Originals, of course
|
the old school, somewhat cheesy stuff, was great. the way people died was awsome. the Sleepaway Camp series was my fave
|
Best movie: The Omen - hands down. movie scared the crap outta me
Character: Jack Torrence or Micheal Myers Actor: Yeah, probably Jack Nicholson Actress: Sissy Spacek did a good job . . . Scene: The Tricycle scene in The Omen Special Effect: gotta agree with Supple Cow; the spider walk down the stairs in The Exorcist was well done and plenty freaky. Just my $.02 |
Hmmm think you need to add a category
"Best horror flick to watch with friends for a good laugh" My vote there would be Killer Clowns From Outer Space Best Movie: The Shining Best Special Effect: The Cell - much eye candy here or perhaps 13 Ghosts |
love the romero flicks!
|
hmm, it didn't really scare many people, and most thought of it as being well overrated... but The Blair Witch Project gave me the heeby jeebys.

Wow, those are good!! Horror Flick overall -- Night of 1000 Corpses Horror Character (Human or otherwise) The first Alien Horror Actor -- Jack Nicholson (The Shining) or Bruce Campbell (ED2) Horror Actress -- The old lady in Poltergeist Horror Scene -- Evil Dead 2 -- When the hand is trying to kill him "Who's laughing now?" hahaha... Horror film special effect -- Scanners -- When the guy's head explodes |
Horror Flick overall: I'll have to organize my thoughts on that one. I was too young to remember if the classics ever scared me. I know The Shining didn't and neither did Exorcist or The Omen.
Horror Character: Pumpkin fuckin head!! I also hold a soft spot for the demon who possesed Alyda in The Unnamable 1 & 2 and Radu of Subspecies (because he looks like Morbius) Horror Actor: Hellraiser guy Horror Actress: Sissy Spacek Horror Scene: When Pumpkinhead presses the dying girls face up against the window until it breaks through and she dies. Horror film special effect: Werewolf transformations. I like too many of them to name one. Van Helsings may very well be the worst ones though. Asta!! |
Horror Flick overall - Exorcist. Disturbed me
Horror Character - Michael Myers - an archetype Horror Actor - no clue Horror Actress - no clue Horror Scene - The Ring (Japanese version)... when the dead girl crawls out of the TV screen... if it was a Hollywood horror they would have had the fist bursting out of the screen to make the viewer jump... but the way the creature dragged itself like a dead thing out of the screen and into the world, made it seem more like the abomination it ws supposed to be... and scarier Horror film special effect - one above |
New catagory
Best character theme music: Michael Myers or Freddy. Both had that eerie kick ass piano shit. Asta!! |
Strange Famous - I only saw the American version of The Ring, and she crawled out pretty dang slowly. Was the scariest movie I ever saw recently anyway. Funny thing, when I was a kid Levar Burton in that one Star Trek episode where he turned into a glowing blue monster gave me nightmares.

What are the best:
Horror Flick overall - The Shining Horror Character (Human or otherwise) - Does theh little girl from Interview with the Vampire count even though it wasn't really a horror movie? Horror Actor - Anthony Perkins in Psycho, or maybe Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs Horror Actress - I've always liked Linda Blair in The Exorcist Horror Scene - Heeeere's Johhny! Horror film special effect - Spider Walk in The Exorcist |
What are the best:
Horror Flick overall - the thing.. new version not the old b/w one Horror Character (Human or otherwise) - any b rated horror movie where mark hammel buys it Horror Actor - Anthony Hopkins in Silence of the Lambs, hannible gotta be Horror Actress - Sigourney Weaver alien classic Horror Scene - the resurected where in the basement the lights go out after the creature pops up and you see a flash shot of the action as the dude unloads with the shot gun Horror film special effect - evil dead 2 when the deer mounted head opened its mouth and what laughed? to this day .. no deer heads go in my house |
Horror Flick overall...Night of the living Dead Still scares me today.
Horror Character....Ash from Evil Dead or Vampire Hunter D Horror Actor...Bruce Campbell Or Sherman Howard who played Bub Horror Scene.. Eyeball or Shark scene from Zombi Horror film special effect... The camera work in Evil Dead |
Horror Flick overall: Freaks
This is an old black and white film but will really keep you up at night if you can find a copy to watch. |
i have to say scariest movies are blair witch (you have to watch it at night though....pitch black with an awesome surround sound) or texas chainsaw massacre (remake)
...that scene in the tent in blair witch where it starts flapping wildly scared the hair right off my body! TCM is good for gore. Michael Myers has to be the scariest villan. Jessica biel in TCM is nails! (you can be grossed out and aroused at the same time!) |
Horror Flick overall: As a kid The Howling (My mom told me it was a true story. I thought I was going to need prefesional help before I could sleep in my own bed again.) As an adult Texas Chainsaw massacre remake
Horror Character (Human or otherwise): Norman Bates Horror Actor: Bruce Campbell Horror Actress: Jamie Lee Curtis Horror Scene: When Jason jumps through the window at the end of Friday the 13th 2 Horror film special effect: The skinless people in the hellraiser movies |
overall: I think the first Halloween was a pretty amazing movie
character: spiders in arachnophobia, but that is my own issue As for the other questions, I can't really say that I've seen enough horror films to really know. Oh! I do have a favorite scene! scene: the end of the japanese film Audition where the quiet girl goes nuts slowly pushing needles into the old mans eyes and cutting off his feet. eek. |
Overall: Probably the Exorcist. I also liked 28 Days Later but that wasn't really a scary movie. It was just a really scary concept.
Character: I agree with Primal...Norman Bates Actor: I like Tom Savini....more of a special fx d00d Actress: no clue Horror Scene: In Jason X (shitty movie) in the beginning when he puts the chicks face in liquid nitrogen and shatters it on the steel table Special Effect: Exorcist when her head spins around |
good topic!
Horror Flick overall - Night of the Living Dead Horror Character - Pinhead from Hellraiser Horror Actor - Jack Nicholson Horror Actress - PJ Soles <-- hotness! Horror Scene - opening scene from Lucio Fulci's Zombie Horror film special effect - chestburster scene from Alien |
You kids... nothing earlier than Night of the Living Dead
My pick: A tie: The Haunting (1963) -- scared the crap out of me without a drop of blood. And, Curse of the Demon -- the same. Favorite Character: Professor Quatermass Favorite Actor: Vincent Price Favorite Actress: Oh I dunno -- Adrienne Barbeau, just because I grew up in the '70s? Favorite Scene: Nightclub vampire fight scene in "From Dusk 'til Dawn." Favorite Special Effect: if the story's set up well, even mediocre effects are good enough. |
