Air force vets...stories and advice for a potential recruit?
I'm a junior in college now and on my way to getting BS's in both physics and math, and I'm in good shape and play a few different sports. Anyway, I always wanted to fly, and I'd love to be able to have a chance to fly the best things with wings and I certainly don't have the budget to buy one of my own, so I was considering a few years in the air force. One of my friends had a dad who did a similar thing after college (later going to grad school for a PhD and career in physics, which is my plan) flying around texas in an f-5.
If I wanted to join the air force (or air national guard?) now, would life be completely different? What recommendations/clarifications do you have? This has more to do with a love for flying (fast, too) than a great desire to fight wars based on some poor decisions...depending on the outcome of the election some factors might shift for me...but please, let me know what you think, and what your experiences were like. It's time to start thinking about things! |

I'd also like to note that space and aeronautics really interest me as future career goals...and I suppose I had in the back of my mind that working with the air force now might help me later to get a different job more on the science end of it all, but as I understand there is a strong relationship between the two.
Any thoughts on whether or not that might be true? |
