Leaky nose, but I'm not sick and it's not snot.
I was just taking a nap and was lying on my side. My alarm went off and when I sat up, a liquid almost as thin as water came dripping out of my left nostril. It was clear, maybe with a orangeish/reddish tint, tastes a little salty, and left my nostril with a sort of sour "smell" in it.
I've seen something like this before. When I would snorkel or scuba dive with my dad, he'd somehow trap water in his sinuses. He realized that afterwards, when he bent down for a second (like when he went to pick something up) then stood up, it would all come pouring out. The tricky part here is that I haven't been in the water for about 5 days now. I have, however, been feeling kind of extra lazy, a little sick, a little depressed, and a little sore at my joints lately. My chiropractor had me take the week off from seeing him and had me fill out a survey to see if he can analize for any kind of toxicity in my body and I'm seeing him tomorrow. I've been eating healthy, getting plenty of sleep, and have no extra stress in my life lately. Is this any kind of sign of some sickness to look into? I'm not a worrier in general, but it was just kind of coincidental. Thanks for any info. -T |
That sounds semi serious, I'd talk to a doctor as soon as possible. I know pretty much everything in your head is connected, so it might be something other than your nose having problems too. When I had surgery on my sinuses I bled from the eyes! 0.o

have you hit your head or been in an accident recently?
|
I don't think you're sick. Lying on your side in an unfamiliar position probably just dislodged some old mucus that had liquified. Allergies might be to blame, too. Are you allergic to anything?
God, the human body is disgusting. |
It doesn't sound like a huge problem to me, but if you notice anything else funny, have yourself checked out. Better safe than sorry.

It reminds me of some good advice I once got in the form of a poem:
Do not kiss your honey When your nose is runny You may think it's funny But it's not. (Say the last line fast a couple times. There ya go.) Don't know what to tell you about the goo dripping from your bodliy orifices, but whatever you do, don't go macking on the hotties in this condition. |
Thanks for the feedback guys (and the humor, Ratbastid ;) )
I'll just refer to my chiropractor tomorrow and see if he can give me any more advice. Take care -T |
It sort of sounds like you had a small nose bleed, the change of seasons can do that, and combined with what may be a seasonal, and possibly new allergy, could have made your nose run.
While a Chiropracter is a Dr of sorts, I would not rely on them for the sum total of something like this. Fixing the nerve transmissions will not cure allergies or a cold, in spite of what they would have you believe. I know this because I have used Chiropractors and regular Dr's and I feel that both have their places. Bottom line: A chiropractor can help your back and some neuro-phiosological issues, but if they tell you that they can assuage an allergic reaction, they why do they use adrenalin in ER's for them, and if they can cure a virus, then why don't they use them to cure ebola? |
If you're feeling all the symptoms you mentioned.. seeing a GP would probably be a good idea.

On a related but completely different note, I have a sinus problem as well. It seems every time I eat, my nose runs. It doesn't matter if its hot or cold food, but it never fails. Not only does it look terrible wiping my nose with a napkin every 2 minutes, if I don't I sniff it back and I sound like a cocaine addict.
Sigh. Why are noses so difficult? |
From your symptoms I'd say you got sea water trapped in your sinuses and have gotten yourself a sinus injection. (Sea water, while cleaning out you sinuses, is nasty and full of little buggers)
The slight fever, sore joints and general malaise is a sure sign of a small infection. Try a thorough saline rinse for a couple of days (Best and neatest in the shower). 90% of the time it will clear itself up. If not, short course of antibiotics will. Good Luck. |
Probably just allergies/sinus related. I get that sometimes when it is almost as fluid as water.

Thanks for the replies guys. I didn't get much info from the Chiro so I'll just save it for my next trip to the doctor if I remember to bring it up. I think it's past for now.
Thanks again -T |
If you symptoms keep up I'd see a regular Dr. I have a major issue with Chiropractors that think they can fix everything. I've even heard some say they can cure poison ivy! Trust your chiro for back allignment but see your medical dr for medical issues. And if you have a chiropractor that claims he can cure things out of his scope of practice I would consider finding a different chiropractor.

It sounds like a tear duct problem to me. Maybe an early sign of infection. Please let us know when you get a Dr to look at it.
