Almost always when you see asian posts they all have pubic hair. Even the porn stars and women who get paid are all fixed up with makup and everything but even they aren't shaved! Is this just a curtural thing or what?

I have Asian women friends who shave their pubic area. I don't think porn is a fair way to generalize. It just depends on the individual. Some women, regardless of race, shave it bare, others leave a triangle or a "landing strip", while others don't shave at all. It just depends on the woman. :)

Sorry, but I have to disagree with this website's definition. I was pretty sure that I was right and I double checked in my dictionary and also in Gray's Anatomy before starting this reply.

Vulva refers to the external genitalia as a whole. This ends at the introitus, or opening into the vagina, which is part of the internal genitalia. In other words, vulva include the labia, the clitorus, and the vestibule (which is the space between the labia).

I guess this may be a minor point. After all, a genital by any other name will feel as good.

Japanese people are not generally speaking that hairy. Men have little to no chest hair for example. So guess it highlights the genitals even more.

And what Halx said. When US occupied Japan, they made new laws and pubic hair got outlawed. I attended a course on history of japanese film last semester and some guest lecturer said that McArthur & co had meant that "you are showing too much if the pubic hair is showing". Japanese have tendency to try to figure out why some request is made, how it makes sense and then fulfill it. So, they first thought that it's ok if you shave all. :p Cos you couldn't show genitals or pubic hair, anime films used to be full of very young looking girls with underwear on and some aliens with tentacles were trying to rape their every cavity. Genitals are no-no, underwear is ok. Penis wouldn't be accepted, but look, it's a tentacle and not a male organ. What do you mean it looks like an erect penis? Japanese don't have homophobia in their culture to same measures as in the west and tere's little or no rules againt pedophilia. The girl characters in anime films could look really young like elementary school kids if officially they were university students.

You are correct in saying that vulva refers to the entire external female genitalia, however it is only her labia minora that are darker.

To answer the original question; I'm not sure if it is still true, but I believe japan used to have a law outlawing the showing of the vagina in porn.

Therefore, to comply with this japanese porn makers made their models grow their pubic hair out so that they could still show the pubic area, but not the vagina or vulva.

If you have ever seen Japanese porn that blurred the vaginal area when the girl was masturbating, or during intercourse, it is because you could see the vagina, and that was illegal.

Once again, I'm not sure if this applies to present day Japan, but it used to be like this.

Also.. it's up to the girl. Who cares if it's shaved or not.. If a girl told you she only liked you to shave..or something equally trivial..would you do it just to please her?

This is strictly hypothetical...but my guess is that in Asia, because sex is portrayed differently, ie. it's not used to sell products, sex is still taboo [although the times are chaging baby], the pornography industry is definately not the same as it is here.

'Western' porn is pretty evolved...I mean, if you ever looked through those playboy centerfolds from first one till modern ones...it's great! First the women are curvy and no breasts are shown, then slowly, boobies are revealed, then pubic area [and full of lucious healthy hair too might i add], then the women get thinner, and more toned and the pubic hair is more tamed...then the boobs get more uh...gravity defying, and then there's no pubic hair at all...except maybe the landing strip...

In Asia the porn industry is probably much less evolved, not much money goes into it, well not as much as it does here, so what we're seeing is probably the asian equivocal of the playboy's early days. I mean look at americanized asian models like Sung Hi lee or soething...she's bare as dr. evil's cat. So what I mean is basically the asian society hasn't really developped distinct tastes yet like what blonde hair, big boobs, landing strips are to here. Tada! [that is not to say EVERY guy likes that...]

Hate to break it to you all, but I'm guessing that full pubes on females is the vast majority all over the world. Don't let porn fool you into thinking that every woman out there has little to no pubic hair. Just not true.
