Illegal Mexican Immigrant Smuggling - deja vu!

Fox News has just reported that another semi has been stopped near Victoria, Texas . 18 illegals - dehydrated badly but all still alive! Someone is importing them in large numbers and taking them to a central point - somewhere. Are we smart enough to get the big boys, or just the dead victims? At least this time they got to them in time.

Is the Texas Highway Patrol being sued for not having adequate water at the rest areas?

I assume that was tongue in cheek - Makes you wonder what is happening at the border if the trucks are coming out of Mexico - there is always the possibility that the truck was loaded in the U.S. and not in Mexico where it would attract attention crossing the border. A truck going down the road would be assumed legit and unless something weird happened or the truck was involved in a traffic stop there would be nothing to attract attention to it. For those of you not familiar with Texas geography Victoria is about 225 miles from the closest Mexican border town. This would mean that if the truck had been moving constantly after loading they have already been locked in the trailer for several hours.

Wow.
News like that should never be ordinary. How many times does it have to happen?

Liquor dealer, something tells me that the people behind such operations aren't U.S. citizens. It's probably pretty lucrative, and alot safer to run from Mexico.

I understand what you are saying though. It's tough to clean up the end result and not go for the root cause. I'm just not sure it can be done. If we had adequate resources for guarding our borders, they wouldn't have made it over in the truck in the first place.

I suppose the survivors will be interviewed before being deprted. But I don't think any of them will give the auuthorities anything to go on, cause they are probably scared of the people who sent them or they may want to try again.

VICTORIA, Texas — An 18-wheeler with a trailer containing 18 suspected illegal immigrants was found Friday outside of Victoria, Texas -- near where 17 immigrants were found dead in an abandoned trailer just two days ago.

Friday's incident involves a rest stop on U.S. Highway 59, 10 miles east of Victoria. Authorities say a concerned motorist notified law officers.

No deaths have been reported Friday. The suspected immigrants were given water and medical attention, as a precaution.

Authorities detained the driver for questioning.

Meanwhile, a trucker from New York remains in custody in Houston on federal charges over Wednesday's deadly incident, in which an 18th person died later. Three other suspected smugglers are sought in that case.

Victoria is about 120 miles southwest of Houston.

okay... this is going to likely get me flamed... note: i think i'll skip this thread for that reason.. this is a radical thought:

I hate to see our resources run out. and I know we're getting full too....... but

i think we should let in people with open arms. we did everything but murder an entire race. who are we to say "don't come in"?

You should know better than to worry about getting flamed.

Here's the problem with it, having open borders is dangerous. The danger doesn't come from families looking for a better life, but from drug runners and from possible terrorists who can just walk right in without having any sort of background check. To be honest, I don't think that our borders are secure enough.
