Petroglyphs and such...
Couldnt really find an appropriate place...
Anyone ever seen any petroglyphs or such? My dad has a topographical map of the area and it said there were some so i went out looking and found them. A lot of them faded over the years but theres a few that remained semi-clear. Two people and a hawk or something? <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/scooby87/nature/9f5eec78.jpg"> Closeups: <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/scooby87/nature/ee5819a8.jpg"> <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/scooby87/nature/9af4993e.jpg"> <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/scooby87/nature/bd1ca4c9.jpg"> Chain type thing that goes all over the rock <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/scooby87/nature/0aedb4e3.jpg"> Sunburst and chain <img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v220/scooby87/nature/b346b41b.jpg"> Its in a wierd area... I cant even get to the back side of the rock formation on the ground (atleast not without a friend) because the trees are so thick. Theres a natural spring going into a pool thats actually go cemented... This is by some really old castle/house that people say is haunted. |
Those are pretty neat, I remember seeing pictures like that when my parents went on vacation to Phoenix, Arizona many years back, but I don't know if theirs were actually real or just painted on for effect.

on an exposed rock face like that, seems to me that they would have to be modern and done with spray paint- I'm no archaeologist, but we used to own 40 acres with a bluff that had simmilar done by local kids- anyone know more about it than me?

Well most of them have faded over time and I cant even make them out, theyre just red blotches, these ones seem to have remained because they arnt in direct sunlight ever.

I have seen them in Nevada just outside of Las Vegas...
pretty neat that someone was standing where you were hundreds or thousands of years before you. |
There are a couple of good petroglyph sites outside of Vegas. A newly publicised one, Sloan Canyon, is being called "The Sistine Chapel of Petroglyphs," having over 1700 individual pieces. I'm with you, they are pretty cool to see.
