Hangovers
Hey everyone, i'm looking to get some general knowledge here. I'm a college senior, who's been recreational drinking for the past 4 years or so. Unfortunately, lately it seems like i've been getting some really heavy hangovers. When i was a Freshman i could drink like a fish, and the next morning be fine, but now it seems like i'm messed up the whole next day. Is this normal?

The older you get, the worse your body responds to abuse. That's just a general concept.
"Hair of the dog" - Only one cure for a hangover: Knocking another pitcher back. |
Drink water. Or gatorade. Something non-alcoholic. Most of a hangover is dehydration. I pound a gatorade and a bottle of water before bed and am fine 95% of the time. Doesnt help you if you get pass-out-drunk, but then thats your problem ;)

Lots of water before going to bed
Orangina, do they still even make it? used to be great for hangovers. (was a fizzy soda that you were supposed to shake up) Extra spicey bloody mary (5 parts v-8 juice, 1 part beef boullion, 5 shots of tabasco, 2 shots of worcestshire sauce, 1 tbs horseradish, and a shot of lemon juice, if you must 1 part vodka - serve over ice... |

Yes... Always drink water b4 going to sleep. & it doesnt hurt to drink some every few drinks while you are getting drunk.
I always drink a pitcher of OJ when I wake up, Makes me feel great. |
A lot of water or gatorade (gatorade is especially good because it's got all of those electrolytes and whatnot that are supposed to prevent athletes from getting dehydrated), and munch on a piece of bread or two if you can.
I've woken up drunk more times than I can count, but never with hangovers. |
Hmm, i hear the water before bed alot too. Actually, i know one guy that when he gets home he fills up the beer bong w/ water and takes a water bong, says its awesome. I may need to try that.
And is the purpose of the bloody mary to make you so sick you forget about the hangover? :hmm: |
I have a friend who swears by charcoal tablets (from the health food store) before starting to drink. She says it gets rid of the hangover before she starts. I can't personally vouch for its effectiveness
|
Have you changed what you drink from when you were a freshman? I get different hangovers depending on what I drink. I hardly ever get a hangover when I drink vodka - normally on the rocks. Beer leaves me with a headache and a slightly dull the next day. Wine used to mess with my gut. Tequila hurt.
Knew a guy that swore the best remedy was one half V-8, one half beer and a couple of aspirins. Neve tried it, myself. |
Haven't had one yet and it's been great. Just drink water/gatorade a lot.
|
Water before sleep is a good rule to follow. because alot of a hanger is usally dehydration
|
Drink water like a madman!
|
Don't drink water in excess.
Drink a large gatorage and have a couple bites to eat before you go to sleep. If that doesn't work, repeat step one with 2 aspirins. I have taken 15 shots of Grey Goose, ate 20 chicken Mcnuggets with several gatorades. Felt fine the next day. Also, sugary/sweet drinks gives you a meaner hangover. Stick to the whiskey and tequilla. Stay away from Rum and Vodka's. |
Vitamin B1 works well for me. Just take it before going to bed or a lot before drinking, and it will help with the headachey parts of the hangover.
Your stomach and guts will still hate you the next day though, and I have no solution for that. |
|
Basically. shit hurts more the older you get.
Definitely the water or Gatorade thing before bed, a lot of it. Alcohol dehydrates you, when I was an Army medic, we'd party all night and do IV's the next day. You could feel the hangover melt away, it was awesome!! |
Lots of water along with 3 or 4 asprin. Keeps me from waking up with a headache.
|
Drink nothing but Guinness, not only will you avoid a hangover, but your weiner will get bigger.
|
I'm in my mid 30's and don't experience many hangovers. Maybe it's the mixing of alcohol with sweet stuff. I like my Jack with a beer chaser. I may take a shot of tekillya but I don't go for the fruity or sweet drinks like margaritas or pina coladas etc.
If you do have a hangover in the morning... one word for you "menudo", no not the singing group that Ricky Martin was in. I'm talking about cow tripe with hominy in a spicy soup with oregano, garlic, and onions. Then you add onions, more oregano, and lime juice. Now that's the shit that will help you get over your hangovers, or so I've been told. |

Never had a hangover, so I can't give you advice on how to get rid of one, but the advice about drinking water or gatorade sounds really good, but I have much better advice on how to get rid of a hangover. Don't drink so much. Or drink over a longer period of time and eat while you do, so you give your liver more time to take care of the alcohol. If you drink too much, your " horrible hangover" could actually be the results of alcohol poisoning.
|
I always pound water before I go to bed and eat some crackers or bread slices too. Someone once told me something called a "redeye" the next morning.. think it was a beer with tobasco in it or something.
Also, for some strange reason.. drinking milk makes me feel better..weird |
Hydrate Hydrate Hydrate. I usually try to drink water between every drink when I am out. If not, then I pound it when I get home. Then again, those party hardy days are pretty much past now. It's more cocktail parties and driinks before dinner for me.
Oh ya, NEVER omit the food. |
Alcohol dehydrates you, so you must stay hydrated!!
Start drinking water at least several hours before (the day before is even better) you even think about drinking alcohol, since your body can only absorb so much water at a time. If you down a sixpack and then realize, "gee, maybe I should drink some water, too!" ....it's too late. Most of the water you drink then will go right through you without being absorbed. Drinking gatorade is fine, but it's no better than water. Gatorade is designed for people who are losing vital salts and electrolytes by sweating, and the last time I checked, drinking yourself under the table didn't require much physical activity. Gatorade won't hurt, but it won't help any more than regular plain old agua. Keep drinking water, too. Don't stop when you start drinking alcohol. And yes, as you get older, your body will be less and less able to handle the dehydration without some sort of icky physical response. And my husband's dick is huge. |
My cure is pretty simple:
Glass of water before bed with 3 aspirin and 2 alieve. One reduces swelling, one thins the blood...so I believe. All I know is that when I get up the next morning I have no headache at all. I feel very slighty queasy from the pills, but nothing major. Just tiredness.. but not even a hint of a headache. I love it. |

I like a big glass of milk in the morning too  I'll chime in on the water chorus....drink lots of water |
A friend of mine eats a bananna before he starts drinking, and right before bed eats a slice or two of bread and drinks either gatorade or water - usually 20 oz at least. Finally, he also takes 2 asperine and I have yet to see him with a hangover....
