antique, hand-stitched...valuable?
I am the not-so-proud owner of a whole shitload linens (tablecloths, napkins, aprons, etc) that were decorated by my wife's great grandma. She stitched all kinds of flowers, birds and whatnot on them, made her own lace, the whole nine yards.
The amount of work and skill that went into this stuff is pretty impressive. But the fact is, we don't want it. Before I go and garage-sale it for a nickle each, let me ask you people - is there any value to this stuff? Do people collect it? |
Lace is very collectible, especially if it's in good quality.
Table linens, especially the antique variety, if it's managed to make it this far, stain free, it's worth more than a nickle. Try that for starters Antique Linens on the Web As much as I detest Ebay, they might be a good starting point for you -- I love Antiques Roadshow, and every so often - linens come up The value wont put your kids thru college, but its more than some change.. depends on if you want to work to get rid of it... You migth also try consignment shops -- or any local antique dealers |
Shit yeah.
My Gran used to crochet blankets for beds and each one sold for over $200. Suss it out before you garage sale as maleficent said, lace can be worth quite a few $. Throw some pics up if you can cause there is bound to be someone here that can give you a rough estimate of their worth. |
The better the condition, the better the chances it's worth something. When I was lace shopping in Brussells, they were asking a TON for a little 4x4 in square of lace - maybe like $20?

Without seeing pictures of this stuff-- embroidered stuff, falls under Folk Art -which has a huge market right now.
The problem is, finding the market that will bear the prices |
I think Ebay is your best option. It has a huge consumer base (including many middle-aged women), so there are bound to be people interested in buying the items.
