Killer Coke
I'm not sure if this is a repost, it sounds like something someone would have posted already.

It is customary to post some content rather than just a link.
Also, discussion is more likely to happen if you start it. You could grab some text from the site, summarize it, or somehow impart it to us before expecting us to talk about it. |
I didn't thoroughly look through the site but I believe it refers to bad/unsafe working conditions in places where coke is made. Sadly, this is not uncommon in sweat shops and factories overseas. If anything, instead of targetting coke specifically (which could help to an extent), people should work on getting the country as a whole to enforce regulations on workplace conditions...
Well...then again, there are a number of countries who have laws that say working conditions should be safer but nobody follows them. There are lots of organizations devoted to helping people in sweatshops and stuff and I'm sure a search on google would uncover a number of these. Perhaps they could better guide you in matters such as these....but I wouldn't always trust random sites like the one you posted. I simply don't know the validity of everything they are saying. As a side note, while sweatshops can be horrible and a lot of them really should get their act together and improve working conditions/benefits...to a lot of people/towns, sweatshops are life savers. Without companies moving factories into these towns, a lot of people would simply have no jobs and therefore no way to provide for their families. So...while these jobs leave a lot to be desired...it's better than starving. Forcing these companies to move their factories elsewhere would only leave a bunch of former workers jobless and starving. |
I belive that people should be payed wages suitable to maintain a good standard of living in third world countries. I don't think we will ever have a perfect world and in our life time, one free from underpayed labours or a non-profit north america. I do belive we will see a point in time where corprate american merges with the united states goverment or dissolves the goverment in favour of a pure capital rule. It sounds bizzare but what product does the united states sell you in exchange for taxes? A good standard of living. How can they compete with chrome 22's? luxury sedans? armani cologne? Those who control the flow of money in the country will be the ones who will have the political power and eventually they will move past the puppets to a direct position of influence. For us in north america to enjoy our standard of living we need someone to pay the price, as is the nature of capatilism, I am glad it is them and not me.
