Newbie question: How do you read TF?
There are SO many posters here compared to other forums that I've read. I'm overwhelmed by the enormity of the whole thing!
Do I look at new threads? Do I take a lot of time and view each message board? Please help. BB |
Read what appeals to you. You definitley do not have to read something that you have no interest in.
Try reading some of the journals, too. You will get to know some of the posters. |
What Rubyee said... (her journal is interesting too)
Start with a fourm that interests you. Don't like cars? Don't read Tilted Motors. Are somewhat of a voyeur into other people's relationships, check out Tilted Sexuality, There's something here for everyone. Start with one forum that interests you. You needn't even read every thread in every forum, just pick the ones that appeal to you. |
When you are looking at the main forum menu, there should be a little clickable phrase:
view new posts Clicking this runs a search that will bring up a list of threads that have been added to since you last logged in. I don't use it anymore, but it is a good way to keep up until you develop your "favorite" forums... Definitely don't forget the journals. In some ways that is the most personal area on this site. |
Just read it and post.
We don't have a method to our madness. |
It's the beauty of TFP: there's no one way to do it.
Do what's best for you, my friend. Don't feel like you have to read it all, either. I don't. |
My friend, this is a good problem to have.
Try the "View New Posts" link at the top right of the main page. Or, just pick the forums that interest you and jump right in. |
I usually read it left to right...;)
Seriously, it's not a school assignment where you have to know the material for a test. Kick back, relax, and follow where your interests lay. We have a huge variety of forums to choose from. Welcome to the TFP. :) |
I appreciate all of the suggestions. I have been taking advantage of the view new posts feature--only to find that there are a bunch of new ones.
Thanks, all! BB |
Even after being here for so long, the board still overwhelms me. I do my best to stick to a core 6 forums (General, Members, Computers, Programming, Knowledge, Sexuality) - but if I've got time to burn, I'll browse through others.
Since I only get around to checking TFP once a day or every other day, the "View New Posts" feature tends to overwhelm me, as it'd spit way too much information at me. Either way, if you know what you want to read about, browse that forum - or else overload yourself with information and read everything new ;) Either way, enjoy it :D |
You browse very similar to me, come on every couple of days, browse a couple areas that i feel like (usally Gen discussion or humor), post if i find something i know a little about and just relax.
