Henna?
Quick Question -
I am told that you can use Henna (sp?) for a temporary tatoo. I am curious as to how long temporary is, is it possible for it to last a month or longer? Please share any experiences that you have had with this, or any other ways to obtain a temporary tat. Also, were would you recommend purchasing it, I have looked around online, but am inexperienced as to what brand I should pick up. Thanks for your help :D |
I got a henna tatoo when I was in PCB, FL a couple years ago. I was told that they used to last 1 month+, but that they've had to weaken the ingrediants (i forget why) and that they only last 1-2 weeks.
Mine lasted a lil over a week, i think. It depends on where you get it and how much that area of your skin gets rubbed. If you only want it for a few days, then go for it. |
There is a woman in my English class, and she got Henna on her hands for a marriage in the family. She said the marriage was that weekend, and the Henna was already faded.

I got a henna tattoo once and the guy totally messed it up. He put on way too much ink and it just looked like a huge black blob on my back. I went back in and got one done on my foot and I think it lasted about 2 weeks. Chlorine will lessen the life span.
Make sure you go to a place where the people know what they are doing. Ask how many they have done before. |
The length of time I've heard depends on how well the henna is taken care of, and where it is placed. My ex had a temp henna tattoo on his left shoulder, and I think it lasted about a week, after trying to preserve it while showering/swimming. The tattoo was applied by someone else, and was a higher quality henna than you might find at Hot Topic or something.

I got a henna tattoo on my neck once. It lasted about 10 days with me not trying to scrub it during showers.

and if you get out in the sun enough, you get a negative version after it fades :)

I just went to Ocean City for vacation where two of my (male -- keep that in mind) friends got respective tatoos of a happy little elephant holding a balloon, and a little winking starfish. Starfish boy got laid down there.

But yeah henna is an interesting temmporary tattoo. If you want to make it last longer you can try holding the area over smoke before you flake off the henna. It also makes it darker. And you can keep the henna on for longer before flaking it off. |
I had an airbrushed tattoo applied and that lasted about 3 weeks-the henna one i tried barely lasted a week. Go for the airbrushing would be my advice. Cost is no different, quality is better.

Milady and I did henna a couple months ago. To do it right took quite a long time. First there was the art, then waiting for it to dry, then putting some lemon juice (mixed with sugar) on it, drying that, more lemon juice, using a hair dryer to speed things up, then wrapping it in a paper towel and wrapping again with Saran wrap and taping that on.
I got mine on the arm and it was cool, lasted over a week. Milady's on her leg lasted longer. Have fun :-) |
there was a member around here (I think it was -Ever-) who got a henna tattoo on his back to see if he'd like to make it permanent... it lasted about 2 weeks i think before it faded considerably, and i believe he chose to get the real ink.
looked pretty cool too :) |

also the henna will always stay on better... on places on your body that generate heat... i.e the palms of your hands and feet.. anything on the arm, back and places like that will not last as long.... you can also after you have let it dry and are ready to wash it off... rub just a dab of loive oil into and that bring the color out a but more as well .. Hope this helps :) |
It certainly does, thanks for the advice folks :D

I got one on my stomach around my belly button a while back. There was a stand just set up in the middle of our mall one day, so i said, "what the hell?!" But I must say that it was rather awkward sitting in the middle of our towns mall with my shirt halfway up, and this weird lady with her head about 2 inches away from my stomach...
But anyways, after the actual henna paint stuff fell off (thick/brownish goop) I'd have to say that mine lasted quite a long time. Almost a month, and I remember having to scrub it off in the end only because i got sick of it... |
