July 5th

Since the fourth of July falls on a Sunday this year, we have the 5th of July off, paid for and everything.

I had never heard of this before; at previous jobs we just didn't get any time off if the holiday fell on a weekend.

I was just curious to see if anyone else had the 5th off this year.

ShaniFaye 06-28-2004 07:52 AM

Every job I've ever had if the holiday fell on Saturday we got friday off...if it fell on Sunday we got Monday off.

This year is great for me, since we get our birthday off as well I get both Friday AND Monday off!!!!

Ripsaw 06-28-2004 07:59 AM

I have the 2nd as well as the 5th off. Profitable year, apparently.

Cynthetiq 06-28-2004 08:18 AM

:) depends on the company but since I've been working for a corporate company, it's always been that way, holiday falls on a weekend.. you get the day before or after depending on what day the holiday falls on.

only works for those days like Xmas, New Years, and July 4th.... the rest of the holidays are pretty standard 3 day weekends on monday.

scrooloose 06-28-2004 08:32 AM

I get monday off also, now if the 4th was on a saturday I would have gotten Friday off instead.

emmdubbs 06-28-2004 08:34 AM

i'm an educator...i get the whole summer off...so it doesn't really matter when the holiday falls... ;)

Averett 06-28-2004 09:15 AM

Yup, I get Monday off.

And for Christmas/New Years we get 2 4 day weekends in a row :D

amonkie 06-28-2004 10:27 AM

Well, I get Monday off from my summer class, but the place I work is BUSIEST on holidays, so I get to pull an 8 and a half hour shift Monday. Whoopee. At least I'll be able to make up some of the hours I had off to go camping.

rockzilla 06-28-2004 10:41 AM

I've always had to work holidays. I don't mind though, not only do I get overtime, but all the administrative staff is away, which makes work a whole lot less annoying.

06-28-2004 01:13 PM

I do, but I just started here so I won't get paid holidays until my 90 days.

la petite moi 06-28-2004 01:23 PM

Yes, I get 5 July off too (from school, that is).

Amonkie, what year are you?

tecoyah 06-28-2004 04:54 PM

In retail....we pay the holiday, but close for the fourth. I give my staff the option of an extra day off, or more money.

PayUp 06-28-2004 05:45 PM

Not only do I have the 5th off paid, I'm taking the 2nd off to take my kids camping for 4 days.

Moobie 06-28-2004 06:27 PM

I had the 5th off, and then the money grubbing bastards realized what they'd done and now I have to work.

crow_daw 06-28-2004 06:39 PM

Well, I'd been hoping that I would get the 5th off, but I'm pretty well certain that I don't. Just gonna be a regular weekend for me. So I can't really get wasted on the 4th, which makes me sad in pants.

Oh well.

choskins 06-28-2004 06:49 PM

We have Monday off as well.

Kepage23 06-28-2004 07:46 PM

We get Monday off where I work, but we get it without pay. It is kinda nice to have a day off for a holiday for a change. My last job I worked Christmas day, newyears, and Easter Sunday (security Guard) and going into Law Enforcement, I will not have many holidays off in the future.

Boo 06-28-2004 08:18 PM

We get the 5th off (paid) and since I am such an ass, I also took off the 1st and 2nd.

Denali Highway, here I come!

Oh give me a home where the caribou roam
And the bears eat moose calves for lunch
Where always to be seen is a pictorious scene
And the grayling hit flies all day long.

sexymama 06-28-2004 09:35 PM

Another educator here, so all summer off; so we set our wedding day for the 5th. It is amazing how many people can't make it because they have to work.

I'm entering my fourth/ senior years - double majors suck big time in terms of finishing on time.

greytone 06-29-2004 04:07 PM

I am working the 4th and it counts as a Sunday, but the guy who has the 5th is getting credit for working a holiday. The really screwy thing is, I am the one who came up with that.

You, dear heart, are a great parent! Enjoy the time off with your kids!!! Bravo!

punx1325 06-29-2004 08:33 PM

I get Friday and Monday off! What luck I have, and tomorrow I find out if I get paid for Monday.

Hearing all you people getting the weekend off... GRRR!

I work Thurs/Friday 7 hour days, then Sat/Sun/Mon 8 and a half hour days due to the holiday... and no overtime because because I work 35 hours a week normally and not 40

goddfather40 06-29-2004 08:54 PM

I am OFF Monday and it's always been like that. Every holiday that can fall on a weekend means you get either the Friday or Monday off. Holidays like Easter that always are on the weekend don't count.

dawiz73 06-29-2004 08:55 PM

I am with amonkie, my schedule gets royally messed up 'cause i work the weekend usually. I get to work thurs, fri, sat, sun(4th) then get to take monday off cause it is a holiday! still get a 3 day weekend (mon, tue, wed) , but i do not get to spend the real holiday looking at fireworks or anything..... just not getting calls on my help desk. I guess I am glad I have a job.....

Sargeman 07-01-2004 09:00 AM

I get Monday off and I asked for today (Thursday) and tomorrow off. Yeah 5 day weekends rock!!

Also July 5 is my daughters birthday. She said to ask you guys for some cash. The paper kind with lots and lots of numbers on it. ;)

ShaniFaye 07-01-2004 09:02 AM

Monopoly money fits that description hahahahaha :)

God of Thunder 07-01-2004 09:16 AM

Most workers who have a contract (like myself) are paid for certain holidays throughout the year. If a holiday falls on a weekend you get Friday or Monday off as has bee said already. The bummer is when they fall on a Tuesday or Thursday. In order to take an extended weekend, you have to use holiday time.

I usually like coming in on the Friday after Thnaksgiving though, there's generally no one here and I can actually get some work done.

ShaniFaye 07-01-2004 09:18 AM

In our company the thursday after thanks giving is a paid holiday for us every year, as is either christmas eve or the day after christmas depending on which day of the week christmas is on

absorbentishe 07-01-2004 10:20 AM

I get the day off as well, but if I don't get everything done, I'll be putting some time, just to stay ahead of the game.

GakFace 07-01-2004 10:29 AM

I've been in for 30 days, so I'm now in the union, they take 30 bucks, I take 80 on monday. :D Fair Trade, Aye?

I'll even be outta town, so that works out nicely. :) I'll still get a paycheck for that week.. hahahaha.
