An urgent inquiry was launched in Cyprus last night after an undercover police operation exposed a group of up to 100 tourists, including Britons, taking part in what was described a mass orgy aboard a cruise ship off the island.

The scenes, shown on local TV and described as "debauched", were broadcast after being caught on camera in the police sting. Arrests are expected in the coming days. "These scenes are not just graphic, they go beyond every conceivable limit," the island's deputy chief of police, Sotiris Haralambous, said. "We are talking about 50, 100 people involved in acts of total debauchery. It's hard to even describe."

The still pictures, leaked to the privately owned Mega TV channel and broadcast in suitably edited form, show the ferrygoers during the night cruise in international waters off the island. Some revellers are seen nude and taking part in various sex acts; others appear clothed, gawping from around the deck. One man is wearing a T-shirt clearly emblazoned with the words "100% Brummie".

"To say these pictures are shocking is to put it mildly," said an employee at the TV station. "They're outrageous, very wild. Whether dressed or not, it very clear that everyone in them is, how shall I put it, in the mood."

The ferry, which could take up to 200 passengers, is believed to have started out from the resort of Ayia Napa.

"They're all quite young, under 30, and from the look of it tourists from Britain and Scandinavia," Mr Haralambous said. The unnamed vessel, which is believed to be owned by a foreigner, was skippered by a Greek Cypriot operating on a licence from the Cyprus Tourism Organisation.

The captain was being questioned last night about the trip, which was billed as a £30 night cruise with meal.

Because the scenes took place in international waters, beyond Cypriot jurisdiction, authorities will have to request arrest warrants from Interpol. "The owner obviously knew a thing or two about the law because, as far as we know, these acts did not happen in Cyprus' territorial waters," the police officer added.

But the Greek Cypriot government said yesterday it would not be deterred, particularly as drugs appear to have been consumed on the boat. The scenes had blighted "the good image of Cyprus" and provoked "great shock," the island's minister of tourism and commerce, Giorgos Lalikas, told Mega's primetime news.

How about that? I suppose this thread can go in 2 directions - take whichever you please. On one hand, there's the issue of Greece's determinacy to be involved in people's private lives. Seems to me these were all consenting adults, so I'm not sure what the issue should be (although I know what the issue is). The drugs were mentioned as an afterthought so I'm not sure if that's a reflection of media focus or the actual focus of the Greek authorities. To be honest, having heard so many things about Greece and some of their crazy laws (how about that British teen who was held in jail for something like 30 days for flashing at a club?) I don't find it unbelievable that they're more outraged by the orgy than the drugs.

Of course, then there's the other direction. Would you take place in a 100 person orgy? :lol: Entering into fantasy land, what if it was very well prepared and everyone was tested and clean?

Overall, I find this more funny than anything else. The quotes from the authorities are priceless. Oh yeah, and the first person to find the leaked photographs gets an imaginary cookie ;)

I'm a geography Nazi and I just want to clarify something. This concerns the CYPRIOT government, not the Greek government, as you mistakenly said. The island of Cyprus is divided into two de facto nations-one populated by ethnic Greeks, and the other by ethnic Turks. The Greek Cypriot nation is a lot larger, more populous, and more prosperous, and a large part of that prosperity is derived from tourism. It has never been a part of modern Greece, but is very Greek in culture. The only country that recognizes Turkish Cypriot independence is (you guessed it) TURKEY. /end rant.

This in no way takes away from the interest of the article.

Why not.... try anything once. (if everyone was clean obviously)

heh, you know, I thought about editing my post after making it to clarify that I did know that. Looks like I should have. Fact is, I have no question that the Greek Cypriot government - which is what this concerns - is heavily influenced by the Greek government, which is becoming famous lately for it's draconian policies regarding sexuality and other things such as video games and so forth. Besides, the Greek Cypriot nation is so much so practically Greece that there have been multiple attempts to get it unified, stopped mainly by Turkish objections.

I'm a "one woman" guy, and the thought of swapping fluids with 99 other people is a huge turn off.

I would think people on this forum would be more open than this. Personally, if I were reasonably sure that everyone was clean, and used a condom, I don't see the harm in participating in such an act. In my mind there are two types of sex- the first being emotional, a sharing of a bond between two people. A way to show how much you love each other. The other being one of fun and excitement, just another activity that is so much more fun than television.

Been there done that LOVED it.

The one local club we are members of meet at a local hotel. They reserve the whole floor or - next time they're meeting they've reserved the whole hotel. The hotel is aware of what is going on and turn their head.

We had some journalists sneak in one of our clubs (Not the one we're members of) with tiny video cameras apparently. It got on the local news. All they did is have to relocate their meeting place because people were complaining. They always have to have more things going on then just sex - we have food, drink, dancing, games, etc. If they only had sex and you paid to get in - that would be illegal. This way you're not paying for "sex".

Plus most of the people we know in this club are very clean - they get checked mulitple times a year as do we.

No way would I do this. There's a thing called "moderation" which, IMHO, doesn't include events like that. OTOH, I wouldn't stand in their way, either.

You can't guarantee "clean" in the real world at this time. AIDS was once unknown, but people died of it years later. There was no test for it. Who knows what else might be out there which we don't know about and therefore have no test for.

The outrage is Cyprus goverment's involvement in stopping the party not the party itself.

If I knew everyone was 100% clean and I was single, I wouldn't hesitate one secdond going on a trip like that. Expanding ones horizons is always a good thing. :D

that kind of bothers me that the authorities feel a need to get involved. what's wrong? what's illegal about having an orgy? the drugs... yeah, illegal, but consenting sex between a ton of adults? it was on a ship. it's not exactly like they were doing it in someones backyard.

as for whether or not i would participate.... my dick says yes, but in reality, i probably wouldn't participate in something like that. at one point in time i was in preparations to have a threesome, and then i saw how messed up things can get (emotionally). not fun. but thats just me.

The only reason I can think of the any government to be involved with this kind of thing is that it's guaranteed to spread disease. That's a legitimate government function, I think, to prevent the spread of disease.
