I LOVE SAN FRANCISCO
I'm in San Francisco for a business meeting, and the minute I stepped off the plane I could hardly contain myself. There are just some places that make me tingle all over, like I just belong there. Uptown Minneapolis is one of them, Zion national park was another, but San Francisco is the great-grandaddy of all wonderful cities. I'm staying in on Nob Hill, I can see Grace Cathedral and Huntington Park from my room. I love walking around the city and looking at people, I love that I need a jacket in June, I love the meditation maze at the cathedral, and watching the people from Chinatown do tai chi at 6 in the morning. I love the fog and the food and the sound of the streetcars. It doesn't get a whole lot better than this.
Just had to share the happy.

I love visiting there as well. I am not sure I would want to live there because I am not a intown kind (the hounds need some space) but I always feel like it is too soon when I have to leave SF. There is also a great deal to do within a few hours drive and the drive is always spectacular.

![]() Haven't ever been, but read some great stuff about the place, and of course seen a lot of tv shows and movies about it. That's one of the places I could see myself living. At least part time. ![]() Glad you're having a great time, lurkette. ![]()

Hung out at Grace Cathedral for a while before dinner. For an agnostic, I sure like big churches a lot. There's something about being in these huge, calm spaces that puts me in touch with Whatever-It-Is that's bigger than me. Of course, Japanese gardens do the same thing for me with less marble and crucifiction talk and stuff, but hey, it takes all kinds.

I lived in San Francisco through the '80s, and when the time was right I did leave. But I did love it, to the point where I have difficulty explaining quite why. Perhaps because its beauty, complexity and soul would express themselves unexpectedly in the most mundane of circumstances, every block on every day. San Francisco is unpredictable and exciting, and yet to those who know it, it's as comfortable as an old coat. Throw on a windbreaker, stick a Fast Pass in your pocket, and the town is yours.

I used to live about two hours north of San Francisco, and I used to love spending a day there with my family every so often, we'd go see the Giants/49ers at Candlestick, go shopping at the piers, maybe catch a show. Such a nice city.

I visited San Francisco a few years back and have been trying to figure out an excuse to go back... I had a similar feeling to Lurkette... it made me tingle all over as well.

OK, lurkette, why don't you come visit? I only live an hour north of SF.
Of course, I am biased about this area. I've lived here my entire life. I was interested to see you mention Zion. My aunt and uncle used to live just outside the park in Hurricane, Utah. I always loved to visit that area.

I don't know, but last week I drove up to SF for my wifes docotrs appt. @ UCSF and as we looked at all the buildings all on top of each other with no yards or any space, I just can not see why people love living in big cities like San Francisco. I drive through San Jose all the time and I would much rather live where there are actual trees growing where they want not just in planter boxes. I admit the Bay Area is great but I can not ever see myself living in SF. Just visit for the Niners, or Giants!
Lurkette, The Dodgers are in town try and go see the Giants/Dodgers game @ SBC Park. It is one gorgeous ball park!

I live in Potrero Hill myself. Love the City but have been thinking of moving up north lately, or at least out onto the waterfront in the Marina.
Lurk, if you are in town and have time to catch a Giant Dodger game either tonight at 7:05 or Thursday at 4:05 shoot me a PM. I have season tix, 15 rows behind home plate. I can't go those days.

I live a half hour away from SF (on a traffic-friendly day)
and I go there every weekend. I love just wandering in the financial district. All those tall, tall buildings. I also walk along the embarcadero (or the waterfront.. whatever name pleases you) and eat breakfast at the townsend restaurant. Great food (orange juice is to die for) |

Hah, isn't TFP a wonderful place!
I'm in San Francisco on business too at the moment. Well, to be precise, I was in SF over the weekend, but moved down to San Jose for the week. This Friday I return back to the city to enjoy it once more, before departing back to Australia. Mrs Mephisto and I had a ball over the weekend. I'm afraid we did the obligatory Alcatraz tour on Sunday, which was much better than I expected. Saturday was spent almost bankrupting me as Mrs Mephisto went balistic in the shops. Oh well, can't complain... ![]() So, I hear that Soma is a nice area. Am planning on going there this Saturday and maybe checking out some of the local clubs. I'm not the party animal I used to be, but there's still some life left in the old dog yet! Nob Hill is just up the road from where I'm staying (the Crowne Plaza on Sutter, just beside Union Square). I'm sorry I didn't check into the Westin on Union Square, as that looks even nicer... Mr Mephisto |

Them's shorts weather, lassy! I'm still jealous. SF is on my list of places to visit before I croak. =)

Ah, one of my favorite places on the planet. I can't think of a city I would rather visit.

I head there a few times a week, some of my best friends live in the Nob Hill area. I was about to move there to finish college when I decided I should get out for a bit and chose San Diego. I'm still ambiguous if this was a better choice as I love SF so much, however change is good, San Diego is beautiful, an my girlfriend's going to be there (most importantly

I live in Rockridge now. I love it! The weather is fabulous. The shops and restaurants are wonderful. And with a BART station in the middle of it, getting in and out of The City is a snap. We moved here in 1996 because we could afford a decent house for less than a condo in the City. I'm glad we bought when we did - we could never afford our house now. |
