there is another picture to this set.. it's actually taken first in the sequence:

http://flippedcracker.net/photos/alb...cks1.sized.jpg

The photographer apprently takes credit for taking the pictures, but offers no explanation yet.

You skeptics.. bleh.

Xell101 06-15-2004 04:17 PM

Feeling bad, but laughing anyway.

As for the authenticity, it isn't photoshopped and that was probably the last duckling, ducks aren't known for being demons of effeciency with their movements, it probably just looking back, not for lost ducklings.

look at the bumper, no reflection, but you can see most of the grate.....

Xell101 06-15-2004 04:24 PM

It looks to be reflecting the other side of the grate. If it was reflecting the side nearest it you'd be able to see a lot more grate.

Again, you're looking at the far side of the grate in that reflection, not the right side where the ducks are. Where the ducks are is too far right for the convex surface to reflect it.

Munku 06-15-2004 06:29 PM

THe tail pipe has no ducks in it's reflection.

Stiltzkin 06-16-2004 02:06 AM

I have minimal photoshopping experience and I still didn't think for a second that these pics were real. Whoever chopped this just did a good job.

SlackrJon 06-16-2004 08:46 PM

I laughed, We should all be wondering about the sick bastard that took the pictures of the ducks falling and didnt do anything to help. He's totaly goin to hell.

Eclipse26 06-16-2004 09:02 PM

Awww...fake or real that is so sick and wrong. Poor ducklings.

But, I still laughed. Straight to hell for me.

SpikeQX99 06-16-2004 09:14 PM

It's not chopped at all, I read the article sometime last week I think it was about these ducklings that fell in the sewer drains, and were swimming around and stuff, and a bunch of people helped out and got all the ducks out of the drains and on their way to more adventures!

Besides, it's not like a duck is gonna drown in a sewer you know? They're kinda built for floating in the water right????

Funny on one hand, but kinda sad on the other...

an interesting study in the human animal though, beings that people naturally believe that baby ducks are funny no matter what they do, but then they fall in the sewer and it's funny for a little while, then it's like "holy shit man!!! we gotta do something for the little duckies!!!!"

Er, you're not taking it far enough. Most sewer systems don't drain directly into a body of water. They go through a water treatment plant first. And before that, they likely get rather large, and go through booster pumps...

The ducks are ok!

Five ducklings rescued from sewer

By KATE GARSOMBKE
For the Daily Tribune
STEVENS POINT - It was a beautiful day - the sun was shining, the birds were singing. Strangers smiled and greeted each other as they passed on the sidewalk.

But as people strolled Friday along downtown's Main Street, panicked quacks and peeps suddenly pierced the calmness. Something had gone wrong.

Brandi Roberts, owner and manager of Layla's Garden Deli, noticed that a mother duck had tried crossing Main Street with her ducklings. One by one, five ducklings fell through a storm sewer grate.

"I saw one of them fall, and the mom got scared and took off," she said.

Acting fast, Roberts picked up the phone and called for help.

Stevens Point firefighters and two Portage County Humane Society officers showed up shortly before 10 a.m. and began their daring rescue. A crowd of onlookers grew as firefighters removed a manhole cover and went below the street to fetch the ducklings.

The crew thought it had gathered up all of the chicks when they heard more frenzied peeping coming from the storm sewer.

Firefighters placed the captured ducklings in a pet carrier and lowered the cage into the storm sewer, hoping the other birds' cries would attract the lone chick. Once all of the ducklings were rescued, humane officers took them and went in search of their mother.

Ducks lost downtown aren't a rare occurrence. Many are just trying to get to Pfiffner Pioneer Park, where there is water, said Debbie Duernberger, a humane officer.

Duernberger and humane officer Jenny Stormoen went to the park and spotted a mother duck swimming with two ducklings. They figured this was the ducklings' mother.

"When we first opened up the cage, she came in closer and kept looking at them," Duernberger said. "As soon as she heard chirping, she came right over. She was very happy."

Looking at those pictures breaks my heart. Even if they're okay.

denim 06-17-2004 07:46 AM

Imagine how'd you feel if you were leading your kids across the street, and some undetectable predetor got them w/o you even noticing it happend. That's scarey indeed. You might be next. No surprise the mother duck took off.

maleficent 07-16-2004 04:27 AM

I saw this this story in a magazine tonite - -was really sweet -- nice to know the duckies were safe....

It was different version of the story, that only two of the ducklings fell, and it was a not the firedepartment that did the rescuing...

I know you guys are all happy laughing at the torment of a mother duck, but it's a 'shop, or simply that the final picture is the last duck walking safely away and the mother examining the sewer.

Look how big the birds are in comparison to the grate openings.. you'd have to actually stuff them through.

ARTelevision 07-16-2004 07:11 PM

I just like the title of this thread!

I smile everytime I scan this forum's thread listings and notice it...

Trisk 07-16-2004 08:46 PM

I didn't laugh. I thought it was sad :(
I'm glad they're okay...but that must happen a decent amount

xxSquirtxx 07-16-2004 09:28 PM

Awww. How sad.

But I did giggle a wee bit.

Destrox 08-19-2004 06:09 PM

What makes this even more funny, I have a t-shirt that is very similar to this.

Its got a momma duck, walking 4-5 baby ducks.. then a middle photo with them in the middle of a street (with the yellow line), and finally the third photo has only the momma duck and 2 babies.

Its cruel, but damn i love it.

glasscutter43 08-19-2004 06:39 PM

Ducklings fell through a grate in my town last spring. Two people walking by saw momma duck and heard the babies. Three guys from Home Depot armed with duck tape (sic) and some 1 x 2 rescued all the little duckies. Made the front page of the local paper.

merkerguitars 08-20-2004 09:31 PM

Well nature is a bitch....lol

08-20-2004 11:07 PM

Funny, but halx touched on the point about modernization detroying nature. Dont think this happens? Why arent there zillions of little ducky;s crapping on your golf courses? Sad, but necessary

ForgottenKnight 08-21-2004 10:36 AM

I'm glad the ducks are okay!:)
