Vodka

I was camping with my friends this weekend, had a great time. There is one thing that bothered me though, on Friday night I drank an entire bottle of vodka in 3 hours-by myself. My friends drank their own vodka, but didn't finish their bottles. What concerns me is that, while I was drunk, I wasn't totally hammered. I could walk straight, still feel my face and could talk fairly normally.

Ten years ago I would have thought nothing of this since my tolerance was very high, but since then I have settled down quite a bit. I may have a couple of beers throughout the course of a week but nothing even close to a bottle of vodka. So what gives? Am I just metabolizing the shit faster than a normal person? Anyone have any thoughts?

Unless the bottle said "elmo's vodka for kids" on the side, it seems you're able to tolerate it.

Damn, youd be an expensive date

SixEdxMia 06-07-2004 09:23 PM

*most Vodka is cheap :) *

If you had eaten well that day,and the day before,How big of a bottle? How big of a boy are ya? How long were you awake after drinking it? Questions questions..

I can drink a pint to myself (dont tell anyone).

Church 06-07-2004 09:40 PM

Did you chase it with water? Had you eaten a lot of bread that day?

I say this calls for an experiment! ;)

TopRamen66 06-07-2004 10:16 PM

Yeah how big of a bottle? It dosent really matter for me, I wear the LightWeight Crown and the LW Title Belt. <6 shots in a short time and i'm out on my ass.

PS: YoungNastyMan your Avatar made me spill water all over my face, shirt, pants and cat that was on my lap. The cat is not happy. Why is that puppet so shockingly scary?

I'm able to tolerate vodka better than any other drink.. dunno why.
How fast you get wasted and how badly depends a lot on previous meals ...
also, you might think you were pretty sober but actually you weren't ... think about it :)

i know a guy (probably 5'3, ~70kg) that can down a 1.125 litre of vodka and still walk perfectly, it seems as if he's only had a few beers. i didnt believe him til i saw him do it, i couldn't believe my eyes.

yet when he drinks something different (say bourbon or scotch), he's lucky to get halfway through a 700ml bottle before passing out.

i wouldn't say his tolerance is high - he doesnt drink often (pothead), but its incredibly weird, he doesnt know what it is about vodka, but it doesnt effect him.

Some days I can put away a 1 litre bottle of vodka with no problems, on other days I have 3 shots and I'm hammered.

I lived in the former soviet union for a number of years so I've built up a bit of a resistance to the fine drink.

jwoody 06-08-2004 05:09 AM

The thing I've found when I've been drinking vodka is that I wake up the next day as drunk as I was when I went to sleep.

T's fckn brllnt.

sailor 06-08-2004 05:30 AM

Thats a lot of damn Vodka. I cant handle more than about 8 shots before Im falling down.

Ditto for me, as long as it's good quality vodka, I can't drink the house brands, but the premiums, no problem, same with tequilla, Patron? not a problem....

Gin, will do me in every time, makes me a mean drunk too, so I learned early on, that it's not my friend and won't drink it.

We need to get together and drink sometime because I am almost exactly the same. The difference being that with gin, I'll black out everytime so I don't know that I was an asshole.... ;)

I think I'm immune to the clear liquors. I can drink copious amounts of vodka or gin with little effect. White rum hits me a little harder, dark rum gets me pretty drunk. I've also developed a tolerance for whiskey recently. I'm running out of things that get me drunk, pretty soon I'll have to switch to Listerine to catch a decent buzz.

My brother diplayed his now-legendary alcohol toerance by chugging a 20-oz bottle of vodka, walking normally (although acting like a moron) and being completely sober 4-6 hours later.

castex 06-08-2004 10:14 AM

*spoiler*

This thread is dangerous. A lot, and I mean a lot of people have died trying this.
...
Vodka is meant for sharing.
As you were, amici:)

choskins 06-08-2004 10:24 AM

wrkime, do you do a lot of tailgating at football games? LOL!

Seriously, I am the same way. Clear liquors do little to me, while brown liquors do just the opposite and make me mean as hell.

I am banned from drinking brown liquor.

Alright, you folks want some details? Here we go:

Tech specs:
6 ft tall
195 lbs

I had eaten a steak dinner 1-2 hours before.
I had one beer with dinner.
I mixed the vodka with lemonade for a tasty treat.
It was a 750ml bottle, commonly referred to as a "fifth".

Delvid 06-08-2004 12:33 PM

A full bottle of vodka would turn me into a bumbling idiot. I can however drink a full bottle purchased on an airplane. Did your friends drink half the bottle and then fill it in with water?

ObieX 06-08-2004 12:40 PM

Just to add on to that little spoiler there.

A bottle of vodka is bad enough. Mixing it with a sugary drink is twice as bad. Not that nice for your liver. :P

There you go man, that's what did it. You've got a somewhat larger build than me and just ate a good dinner beforehand. A meal like that really helps your body process the alcohol a lot better, and faster...it kind of dilutes it I guess. And with lemonade, it's way easier to drink, no way would you want to drink that much vodka straight. I really like ginger ale with vodka too.
