Pop or Soda
I live in Minnesota and have always called it pop. When I went to Wisconsin for school, everyone calls it soda. I know it is called both by different people and by other names by some. I was wondering what you call it. Also, where are you from because it seems to be a local thing. If you call it somthing else, what do you call it?

I don't know anyone in Canada that calls it soda (unless they are ex-pat Americans).
We call it pop.

It's much easier to just ask for a beer, it's the same in any language, midwestern, southern, yankee... tastes better too.

Here in NC we call it "drink" or "soft drink." I used to call it pop when I was like 6. I've never called it soda and probably never will. All of my northerner friends call it soda, though.

Call it soda here, but when I go to Minnesota to visit family, have to switch into "pop" mode. I hear pop and think of popsicle.

For the folks that call it Pop -- is the sugar free version, diet pop? (that just sounds strange to me) Diet Soda sounds more normal.

I use it interchangeably. Some times pop, other times soda, other times drink. Or I'll just say "Can I get a ____ (name of drink)"
Seriously though, what's this big controversy about it?

Being from Ohio, it was always "pop," but since I've lived elsewhere, I started calling it soda for whatever reason.
My mom said the next time I ask for a soda, though, she's going to hand me a box of baking soda

Soda or Pop works.
Coke however, does not work. It's a brand name damnit.

Wow, I never realized so many people called it pop. I live in St. Louis and lo and behold, just about everywhere around St. Louis county calls it soda. I went to Cincinatti over the weekend and I had to do doubletakes everytime somebody asked me if I wanted pop at a restaurant. Crazy...

I, like a few others I see, have always called it soda. Doesn't matter what flavor...
I guess "What kinda pop do you have?" just doesn't sound right because of my upstate New York upbringing...

Going to school outside of Boston, they were really bizarre - to the best of my knowledge Tonic was a Soda, Soda referred to Club Soda only. (I never could quite figure out what you got if you ordered a Gin and Tonic) But what do you expect from an area that doesnt put ice cream in a milk shake.
