Who had a Lite Bright?

I must say...I remember getting my first Lite Bright set and to me it was absolutely magical. Just looking at the unlighted pegs would get me buzzing as I would punch them though the black paper through the grid. I couldn't WAIT to then turn off the lights to see my creation!!

Do they even still make Lite Bright?

Ace_O_Spades 05-22-2004 11:27 AM

my friend still has one that he trips out to when he's on drugs

I would gander that they don't make them anymore, but i had a lot of fun playing with it when i had one a REALLY long time ago

Pellaz 05-22-2004 11:28 AM

They still make lite brights, but from what I remember of the boxes, they are radicaly different from the primitive 'christmas tree' light bulb systems we had as kids.

Gjefflin 05-22-2004 11:36 AM

That's what made is special though was the X-mas tree like lightbulbs. Hmmm...i'll look it up on the net and see what I can find out about the new ones. I wonder how they work and if they still sell like they did back when I was a kid about 30 years ago.

And LOL to the dude who uses them for when he trips. I can really see that!! HAHAHAHA!

Gjefflin 05-22-2004 11:38 AM

Hey! I found this!!! Trip on dudes!!

omid 05-22-2004 12:01 PM

LOL i had one of those.. oh man. more fun than legos and hot wheels.

Gjefflin 05-22-2004 12:09 PM

Yep!!! I remember unwrapping it for X-mas numerous times. I also remember running out of the black paper and then it sitting in the closet until we got a new one instead of just getting more paper. NEver knew where to get that paper back then anyway.

seretogis 05-22-2004 12:32 PM

I'm surprised that they still sell these -- you would think that some stupid kid would have choked to death on the "bulbs" years ago, and their parents sued them out of business.

Rubyee 05-22-2004 12:48 PM

I miss mine so much. My parents got rid of it when they didn't see me play with it for two days in a row- they were good at getting rid of my stuff that took up too much space. I would still find pegs buried in the carpet years and years later, too!

pinklily 05-22-2004 12:57 PM

I used to love mine. I used to turn off the lights and just stare at the pictures I made with it.

Gjefflin 05-22-2004 01:10 PM

That's exactly what I did pinklily! It was practically mesmerizing!!!

CinnamonGirl 05-22-2004 01:53 PM

ooh, ooh, I did! For my birthday one year, my mom "borrowed" it, wrote "Happy Birthday" then set it up by my bed before waking me up...I thought that was so cool.

I loved that satisfying little "pop" when you pushed the bulb through the paper...ah, the little joys in life. I'll have to buy one when I get back home :D

bltzkriegmcanon 05-22-2004 03:09 PM

I had one of those as a child. Best. Toy. Ever.

Fremen 05-22-2004 03:16 PM

An on-line Lite Brite. :)

Amethyst 05-22-2004 03:17 PM

I had one an loved it. And this year I got my daughter's one for christmas and it is a Lite Brite Cube you can make pictures on all four sides. And now they make many different patterns with many different cartoon characters.

Baldrick 05-22-2004 04:19 PM

Yup, they still sell them, and the one I bought for my youngest daughter for Christmas 2002 was EXACTLY like the one I grew up with.

I think I played with it more than she did. :)

Gjefflin 05-22-2004 04:23 PM

Wow. Very very very nice!!!

Destrox 05-22-2004 04:51 PM

Didnt we all have one? Thought it was more a law to have one, similar to how we all had to have had a slinky at one point in our life. ( I still do, and I am 21 :P Mines in a wooden felt layered box, and the slinky is gold played. )

Hrothgar 05-22-2004 04:57 PM

I loved mine. One of my favorite things to play with.

Latch 05-22-2004 05:59 PM

Man they were awesome.. I had one when I was innocent.. so no dirty words or bad pictures were put on it.. it was just clean fun... I had about 8 million of those little bulbs hehe

Some pics (I love GIS):

Ahhh...those pictures brought me back. I never made anything that elaborate but my pics were still cool. I think I made a UFO once that I was very proud of. LOL

*Nikki* 05-22-2004 08:34 PM

I completely forgot about the good ole lite bright. Thanks guys:)

Jolt 05-23-2004 07:25 AM

the lite-brite edged out the etch-a-sketch only because the pegs fit in my toy pistol, and unlike the plastic bullets it came with, were sharp...hehehe...

PhatnS2pid 05-23-2004 07:55 AM

Me! That, Etch-A-Sketch, Linkin' Logs, and Lego were the bomb. Hell, I still have two enormous tupperware tubs of Lego hanging around in my basement. :D

What kind of legos?

H12 05-23-2004 08:40 AM

Lite Bright and Etch-A-Sketch were THE toys to have back then, only to be surpassed by the Slinky.

Ah, memories...

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!! Okay...THAT'S funny!

Lebell 05-23-2004 10:15 AM

*raises hand*

Of course, I ran out of paper in a day or two :(

05-23-2004 11:30 AM

:( I never did as a kid, neither did I get a GloWorm.
It's funny now, because they are a trend again and my kids have them!

redarrow 05-23-2004 05:09 PM

Mine broke the first time I got one :-(

Esco 05-23-2004 05:14 PM

My brother got one. He also got a "Magical Musical Thing" and I got a "Merlin, Electronic Wizard".

Bastard.

Roark 05-24-2004 03:35 AM

I never had one, but I remember them. I did have a huge bin of legos though, and still look for that giant car technical set on ebay everyonce and awhile as I could never afford it as a kid.

qtpye4u84 05-24-2004 04:08 AM

MIne was a hand me down from my teenaged aunt at the time.

I had one. Got it in 1969, when I wuz for yeaz o'd. :)

Christmas-tree lights? Mine used colored plastic pegs, and a light bulb inside. Really low-tech, but it worked. Too bad there was no way to save/restore. :(

(edit) It just hit me that I got that thing just over 35 freaking years ago.

We got refills a couple of times at least. IIRC, the thing was made by Hasbro, so you could get refills from them.

I wonder if they still make the refills.

(edit) Oh God, they still make the refills, but, er, the TOPICS they're using: I dunno if I could do these.

('nother edit) Okay, it's not a total loss: this list contains some better stuff.

water_boy1999 05-24-2004 07:37 AM

I loved that thing! My bro and I used to set up the cushions from the sofa as a castle wall and shoot each other with the Light Brite pegs using a rubber band. Little buggers hurt!!!!!
