I never got one when I was younger. And then when I turned about 13 or so I went out and bought myself one. I would have had more fun if I was younger... but I still look at it on my shelf everyonce in a while... and I might just take it down to play. lol

denim 05-24-2004 09:40 AM

Note the age range on it. :D

LOL! Hey...I say....play young....STAY YOUNG! :D

Jolt 05-24-2004 06:05 PM

refill paper? just use black construction or art paper...

Gjefflin 05-24-2004 06:29 PM

Yeah but then you had to cut it to the proper size and measure it to make sure it fit and blah blah blah. Much easier to get the refill. hehehehe

denim 05-24-2004 06:41 PM

The only problem with getting the refill is the amount of time it prolly takes to receive it.

Gjefflin 05-24-2004 09:19 PM

Very true. And....I never got the refills so I wouldn't kow anything about it. We always just bought another one a few years later. LOL

troit 05-25-2004 05:50 AM

Between my lite bright, lincoln logs and erector set I had plenty of things to do when it rained outside....

Ripsaw 05-25-2004 06:47 AM

Coffee Table Version?

Clicky

Link goes to the fruits of my GIS, a craft forum where a poster has put up the plans for this home made version.

There is also a more recent portable version made by HASBRO, I just got one for one of my cousins.

Gjefflin 05-25-2004 08:34 PM

I don't think that Lite Bright's THAT popular anymore because home video games have taken over all of the physical games. What do you guys think? Perhaps I could be wrong.

nofnway 05-25-2004 09:42 PM

We had several over the years and I kind distinctly recall the sound the "bulbs" make when getting sucked up in the vacuum cleaner.

I remember finding them under the edges of the carpet years later when long green shag went out of style.

bparker805 05-26-2004 09:11 AM

Had one and hated it! I would always lose the colored pins and could never make the pictures that I wanted to. I wonder how manyof those things I accidentally swallowed...

Gjefflin 05-26-2004 10:10 AM

HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!! How young where you when you got it? LOL!! I never swallowed any but I did run out after awhile because the pegs would get lost.

Captain Canada 05-29-2004 08:13 PM

I had one when I was a kid. It's in my basement still.

Gjefflin 05-30-2004 07:27 AM

Dig it out man! Dig it out!! hehehehe

basmoq 05-30-2004 08:55 PM

ohh how I miss those younger days, free to play with little pieces of plastic that my parents payed for, all day if necessary. Now all I do is work work work, no more plastic lights for me :(

ARTelevision 05-30-2004 09:05 PM

I had one of the direct precursors to lite brite and loved it.
It was a plastic board with holes for lite-brite type pegs but they didn't light up - they were just colored in a myriad of cool colors.

I can't recall its name. Anyone know what it was called?

Fremen 05-30-2004 11:51 PM

Couldn't find it, ART, but I did find these interesting pieces.

This toy is from the 1930's.

A Lite Brite-like coffee table.

Thanks Fremen, cool stuff.

Yeah this thing was responsible for my interest in pointillism and color. The plastic pegs and board were shaped just like a little Lite Brite and the colors included pastels and exotic hues.

denim 05-31-2004 06:22 AM

I really like that last picture. The martini really adds to it.

WarWagon 05-31-2004 07:13 AM

I sooooo need to build one of those coffee tables.

HEY!!! That was great! I would assume that table is from the 70's as it would be kinda tacky for the year 2K. hehehehe

denim 05-31-2004 10:18 AM

So update the design, or paint it dark grey.

Gjefflin 05-31-2004 10:24 AM

Well the table I don't have a problem with. It's the pegged lights in the center that I would consider to be a little out of date.

In a bar...I could see something like this if it's one of those "neon-y" type of bars but not in a house.

denim 05-31-2004 11:25 AM

How would you do it? Some kind of framed wall object?

emmdubbs 05-31-2004 01:05 PM

i had a lightbright...rocked out with it in the 80's expecially when they had a GI-Joe themed set...that was fun. GO JOE!

BoCo 05-31-2004 01:28 PM

My older sister had one of those and I used to love playing with it. Legos were more fun, though.

ibis 06-05-2004 10:34 AM

My girlfriend got me one for my birthday last year. It was a great gift and I'm somewhat embarrased to say I still play with it every now and then.

nothingx 06-05-2004 10:39 AM

Yep, I had one.... back in the day.

MaGlC_MaN 06-06-2004 09:00 PM

legos all the way baby

kurtisj 06-07-2004 01:43 PM

we recentely busted out my old one for my nephew. i wonder if i could sell it on ebay for a good ammount of $$$......if they stopped making them, that is

choskins 06-07-2004 05:46 PM

I had one and probably still do in my parents' attic. Even though I am on my fourth house, every time I go in my parents' attic, I still find my stuff from when I was a kid.

I gotta get one of those coffee tables for the basement.
