Viewmaster?

How many people here had a viewmaster as a kid? I went through at least 5 of 'em when I was growing up. My favorite of course was the one that had the Light in it so you could look at them in the dark.

My favorite reels was Bugs Bunny "Under the Big top" and Superman!

I think I had a couple, but recently I bought some for my girls and they have all kinds of new discs for them. Not to mention the slide projector and other cool variations. My daughter has the one viewer that looks like Mike from Monsters, Inc.

LOL!!! I love it! I haven't seen one in a long time though. Didn't know they still existed!

Has the technology changed at all? The 3D was so awesome back then. Is it in any way better?

No, it hasn't changed much. I found my old viewmaster and bought a new (circa 1996) jurassic park reel, and it hasn't changed much at all. Though, it was still very nostalgic.

Had a neighbor as a kid who worked for GAF, the company who made the Viewmasters, so he'd bring home stuff for the neighborhood kids all the time. Prototypes too. I remember having stuff that no other kids had.

I seem to recall talking viewmasters that told stories that were pretty slick...

I had two of them -- a blue one and a red one. I don't remember what reels I had. I don't remember thinking they were great or anything, though.

Those are the things with the 3d pictures on slides, right? I always loved those.

I found one a couple of years back that had porn slides Brings the fun of childhood into adult life.

I have an old grey viewmaster that my dad owned when he was a kid...I wonder if it's worth anything?

Hey! You never know! You could put it on Ebay with a minimum of what you want for it and see what happens. I just paid about $20 for a lighted one from the 1970's.

I loved my Viewmaster - it was red. My favorites were the Wonders of the Ancient World and some safari thing with wild critters. Ah, memories....

I spent untold hours projecting myself into Viewmaster imagery.
I believe that is how I learned to methodically place my consciousness outside of myself.

I didn't think it was possible to NOT own a viewmaster. The one slide I remember most vividly was Big Bird riding on one of those monster 4-wheeled pedal buggies that you can drive around in the water.
