Bad Words

I started having this conversation in chat as to why the word "Cunt" is so bad. Now I wanna hear some stories that you all have as to why Cunt, Fuck, Shit, Ass, Bitch, Bastard, Twat, Motherfucker, and whatever other bad words you can think of are bad.

It's fuckin' pissing me righ the fuck off that I can't go around saying these fuckin' words. Shit.

Speed_Gibson 05-21-2004 06:02 PM

A lady just doesn't say those things.Out loud. and the C word is the worst. The dirtiest foulest raunchiest C word ever, but I am not sure why.Hmmm...I'll consider.

true statement IMO with the 'lady' part in there. After four years in the military and having a foul mouth throughout highshcool, nothing fazes me and I have heard more than few girls that ranked A++ in the cursing department.
it does irk me when people (I am thinking of folks in the Navy I served with) use f*ck as every part of speech and every second or third word. If you are going to curse excessively, at least do it creatively with a good mix of words.

SixEdxMia 05-21-2004 06:22 PM

I cuss proper now.I assure you.I'm only a lady sometimes.

I so agree about the C word it is the worst! And like you I am not sure why either. It just always been the worst word ever.

World's King 05-21-2004 06:34 PM

I have to admit.

I really like the word "cunt." Rolls off the tongue really nice.

Nachimir 05-21-2004 06:35 PM

I once asked why swear words were bad, and the religious guy I asked couldn't answer me with anything except "well... erm... Satan takes things and substitutes inappropriate terms... er..."

I think the only reasons they're considered bad are partly because they tend to have a harsh, quite guttural sound, but mostly just because we're conditioned to think of them as bad.

A kid on my road once had a toy break on him, and said "shit" about it in a very matter of fact way. His mother was in earshot and disapprovingly asked "Luke, what did you just say?"

"I said 'shit' " he pronounced loudly across the road. He'd picked it up from other kids at school, and had no idea what a "swear word" was.

Amethyst 05-21-2004 06:35 PM

Why do you like it?

SixEdxMia 05-21-2004 06:38 PM

I like to say it too. : X But only because it is dirty and I was never allowed to.

cunt.

Destrox 05-21-2004 06:44 PM

I have always, and always will never understand why certain words are bad, and others are not. They are just words, who gives a fuckin rats ass if cunt or shit or twat is "bad", its only a word.

As for why cunt is the badest of the bad? Got me, I never really thought it was. Cunt just often describes a female thats a total fucking bitch for no damn reason. Similar to how you would call a guy, well any other swear word there is when he's being a asshole or a dick.

Swear in the right quantities and it'll be blended in as if its ment to be said.

SixEdxMia 05-21-2004 06:54 PM

No no no...There are ladies and there are cunts.Whores have cunts.Ladies have husbands. : )

nanofever 05-21-2004 07:07 PM

I use the phrase "and the motherfucker of the situation was that..." when describing the kicker of a particular story. That is my creative use of a curse word.

Senor Roboto 05-21-2004 07:23 PM

I think it's because words have different degrees of meaning. Like the word when you say something is "fantastic" it generally is better then some is "awesome". Like shit and poop. Yea. Whatever.

Fremen 05-21-2004 07:34 PM

Erotica.

That's where I'm familiar with them from.

I'm not a name caller.

Crack 05-21-2004 07:47 PM

Blink 182:

shit piss fuck cunt cocksucker motherfucker tits fart turd and twat
shit piss fuck cunt cocksucker motherfucker tits fart turd and twat
shit piss fuck cunt cocksucker motherfucker tits fart turd and twat
shit piss fuck cunt cocksucker motherfucker tits fart turd and twat
I fucked your mom
And i wanna suck my dad
And my momma too
Oh, is this thing on?

Journeyman 05-21-2004 07:57 PM

From the Malcom X movie, a man curses when he doesn't have the words he wants to use at hand.

That aside, I tend to try to limit my use of the word cunt so that when I call someone a cunt, it has a real impact that lets others and even myself know just how much I hate that fucking cunt.

KellyC 05-21-2004 08:50 PM

My 9th grade teacher once said that people cuss because they lack the vocab to use the proper words to express their feelings...hmm go figure...

As for bad words souding bad to me...I guess it's because I've been taught that bad words are not pleasing to the ears, I religiously follow that "teaching" without ever questioning it and so it just naturally sound bad.....does that make sense?

I usually recite my SAT verbal to people like that and then tell them to go fornicate themselves with an iron rod, sometimes in a nicer manner and sometimes not.

Yeah, I had a drunken chat with some friends about this last week.

Fuck has really lost its lustre and its #1 offensiveness rank, its just so played out.

Now, what I claimed was when you want to really offend somebody drop in the word cunt, I guarantee that will get the point across.

Its the perfect garnish on any insult really.

In my University's student rag magazine last year they had a giant article on the word "CUNT" and about how it's offensive to women and whatever. I was thinking, damn its offensive fullstop, and didn't really get where they were coming from. I mean "cock" and "dickhead" are such common insults and you don't see men complaining that their genetials' names are being used in vain or whatever, I don't really buy into that whole argument.

Regardless, cunt is a cuntingly good word imo.

Esco 05-21-2004 09:58 PM

I've never called a woman a cunt before. I'm a pretty fast runner, but my endurance is lacking.

World's King 05-22-2004 01:54 AM

I don't look at any of these words as bad.

And as for using them only if you aren't smart enough to have a real vocabulary. Fuck that shit. I'm about the smartest person you know and I can do things with words that will give you a hard on or perk up you little pink fuckin' nipples. It's a way to express yourself. And if you have the time and place to say what's on your misdirected mind... grab it by the balls and scream it to the top of the highest Trump Tower.

'Cause at this point in time, no matter what we do we are looked at as a freak or a terrorist. Live it up ma'fucker. In a world where 95% of the couples that are getting married are only doin' it because they didn't use a Goddamn condom or can't use fuckin' food stamps to buy birth control. But we have an entire group of people that want to get married because they love, honor and respect each other till death do them fuckin' part and they can't because they both have cunts... Fuck that.

Cuss as much as you want. Respect no one. They don't respect you anyway.

tecoyah 05-22-2004 04:13 AM

The term Cunt, originated in the Brittish Isles in the 14th century. Folklore of the time, involved a woman of ill repute, by the name of Elenore the Buxom. At the end of a particularly actve evening,Elenore was approached by a Spanish sea captain in need of service. Unfortunately, as worn as she was Elenore simply stated "I can't". A combination of her deep accent, and the captains limited comprehension of english left him with the impression she had called herself a cunt.
In his many travels the captain spread the term throughout the globe, eventually finding what would become America. Captain Columbus, found the term had universal appeal, and was understood by virtually every culture he encountered.

analog 05-22-2004 05:17 AM

It's insanely rare that cunt or twat will escape my lips. If you hear it, you should probably back up, even if it's not directed at you- i've never said it to a girl to her face, but i've said it to guys before.

It's almost better to use on guys. lol

As far as regualr cursing goes, it bends itself to accomodate my atmosphere.

Even though I write, and have a really nice vocabulary, there's nothing quite like cursing. It can be done very well, and help to create a unique style.

Sparhawk 05-22-2004 05:27 AM

I never say nigger.

Other than that, the field is pretty much open.

SixEdxMia 05-22-2004 05:57 AM

I have little use for the word nigger.. unless you smoke crack and steal my fucking bike..

Psycho Dad 05-22-2004 10:45 AM

These words are considered unacceptable for the same reason tits in public are. Some religious superstitions formed our society and conditioned us to think they are evil.

Amethyst 05-22-2004 10:49 AM

Okay I have one for you. My husband says crap is a bad word and I don't agree with him. What does everyone think? What about pissed? I don''t consider that a bad word. I let my kids say it but told them not at school or at church. I told them that other people see pissed as a curse word and in our house I think it is acceptable.

meepa 05-22-2004 10:51 AM

I gotta say 'cunt' is my last-reserve word that I only use for really pissed off occasions :)

Pellaz 05-22-2004 11:52 AM

Forty years ago, if enough of us got together and decided the word Glob was a swear and invented a 'rude' meaning for it, it would be lumped in with the rest of modern swear words. I doubt it could be done today, as society on the whole seems to be edging away from the bad word stigmas. Words are just words, have always been words, and nothing more. Peoples intentions and the way they take things are the problem.

At five years old, while playing hide and seek, I ran around the corner, saw my mom, and asked "where the fuck did that girl go?". I wasn't beaten, I wasn't punished. Later that day my folks explained to me that words like that are not exceptable in most social situations, but that there was nothing inherently wrong with them.

The net result? Without the taboo attached to them, I didn't swear to swear as a child. I didn't find it so amusing when others did (you know the age). In adulthood, I don't become offended at things or people because of the language they use, I don't say fuck as every other word in every sentance, and I exist in a world where personaly, for all intents and purposes, there are no such things as 'bad words'. I'm a healthier individual because of it, I'm certain.

Fremen 05-22-2004 10:02 PM

I like watching dog shows with friends.
Nothing like hearing lines like "She's a beautiful and elegant bitch." or "Her personality and demeanor are very mature for a 3 year old bitch.", to make us giggle like little kids. :p

Cynthetiq 05-23-2004 01:06 AM

just words, there's no bad ones or good ones.

Just like someone can praise you well and elevate your ego, I don't take much stock in them since even with some very good thought someone can bring you down a few pegs without resorting to a single word that runs off most people's backs like water off a duck.

WarWagon 05-23-2004 01:41 AM

In the words of Bart Simpson, "Hey Dad, heard you swearin'. Mind if I join in? Crap, boobs, crap."

yabobo 05-23-2004 04:18 AM

I am going to tie this thread to the Bill Cosby thread,in my own mind.

We use "bad" words because we don't take the time to learn a more difficult appropriate word choice. God only knows I'm really poor at english so this my excuse.:o :(
It's a non afro-americans way of ebonics

Ebonics (sometimes also called Black English, African-American Vernacular English, AAVE, or Black English Vernacular, BEV) is considered by many to be a dialect of American English. Similar to common Southern US English, the dialect is spoken in many African-American communities in the United States, especially in urban areas. It has its origins in the culture of enslaved Americans and also has roots in England, mixed with elements of West African languages.
A linguistics professor at Washington University created the term Ebonics in 1973, then detailed it in his 1975 book, Ebonics: The True Language of Black Folks. (The term Ebonics is a portmanteau of ebony and phonics).

Boco said"ebonics is not a language, it's a perversion of English. People have the right to speak any way they want, but that's not really the point Bill Cosby was trying to get across."

Speaking in conversation I get really turned off when every third word is a swear. I lose respect for you no matter how brillant you are.

We never listen to our parents the first time around because we want to make our own choices. Sometimes parents are right and we should've listened. Would've saved a lot of aggravation later.

My last thought, nothing more sad then your 6 y/o old grand child coming up to you and saying Hey pap how the fuck are you?
Goddamm it's been a cunts ass since mom brought our asses to see you!

PhatnS2pid 05-23-2004 08:14 AM

I personally love the word "cunt" when I'm pissed off. It's the only swear that even comes close to "fuck" in terms of its forcefulness. LOVE IT!

minyn 05-23-2004 10:43 AM

words are words and respect is realitive. if you lack it, whatever, if you dont, great. but it is a way we judge people from the start.be it the statement or the context or even the people around you, it is a tool we use to present ourselves a certain way. its a nifty little construct society has presented us and we have taken and frankly overused.

oh fuck it, im ranting. ha.

05-23-2004 11:27 AM

Words are words, it's how you choose to use them- the intention behind it. There are some that are used to directly slam someone, which can be disresectful & offensive. I don't call other people names, but i do use "swear" words, I don't consider those bad- but I do respect others by not using them in front of them.
