What's wrong with Iraq's new flag?
Where is the green?
You know, the favourite colour of the Majority Shia population? http://en.wikipedia.org/upload/2/28/Iraq-flag.gif Seems more than a little odd that there's no green there, but the yellow is supposed to represent, 'our friends', the Kurds... *sniffs the air* |
I dunno man, I'll have to google the flag and see what each components really means for the new Iraq...
|
Quick result, I found this on a news forum...

I think Israel when I see that flag, not Iraq.
|
I used to draw better stuff then that in MS Paint. Does that mean I can go into business as a flag designer?
|
Yeah, that looks pretty darn ugly.
|
I still think my face should be on it...
|
Well, it was actually on the news here.
Yes, its a pretty slow day in the U of K. |
most flags are simple... its not my flag so i couldnt care less if it had a pictue of bush giving it to saddam... actually thats not true// id like to see that as the new flag :)
|
should've started a thread with suggestions for iraq's new flag...

^^^^ so very funny original king
|
its too bad that they are doing away with the old flag - does anyone know if it was the decision of the iraqi people to change it, or what?
i can't see a reason for changing the flag - i'm sure it was around before sadam came into power (not sure, but i could easily be proved wrong). a country's visible identity shouldn't change with changing regimes/leaders. i think i'm angry about this now. |
What's wrong with it? It's going to change as soon as we pull out... I think OK has something going up there.
|
Why would Iraq want to change its flag? The old one was fine

I thought the old one was fine, it also had "Allah is Great" on it. Go go colonisation. |
I think it's clearly because of it's similarity to the Israeli flag.

I thought it used to say "God is great" I could be wrong. Some more information on Iraq's old flag prior to the Gulf war. http://flagspot.net/flags/iq.html If you want to find out your country's flag information http://flagspot.net/flags/ |
if the new flag has a crescent moon on it, I don't see what the problem is with having "god is great" on the flag (which is one of the most common lines in islam anyways)
|
Why can't they design their own flag? Why must other countries design their flag for them? I thought the US wanted to give Iraq back to their people?

Although, you could say that there were some "influence" |
Looks fine to me. Whatever they want.
|
Can't say I agree with the need to change it per se but symbolically a new flag for a new beginning.
I am surprised at the lack of green. Especially when the Kurds are on the flag. |
The two purple lines supposedly not only represent the Tigres and Euphrates rivers, but also the Shi'ite and majority Sunni muslims, with, as already mentioned, the yellow representing the Kurds.
And there is no difference between "God is great" and "Alllah is great." Supposedly, we worship the same God - although everyone seems to think that everyone else does it incorrectly. |

"Allahu Akbar!" or "God is Great" was added to the Iraqi flag fairly recently to try to generate Muslim support for his government.
I personally think that if they want to redesign their flag, that's their business. |

Seriously, Iraq did not need a new flag - this is a bit too much. |
The interim government should not be wasting time with flags.
