"The drug marinol is pure, synthetic THC."
pure synthetic? isnt that a contradiction in terms? ok, here is my take: just about ANYTHING (hell, probably everything) that you can eat, drink, smoke or in any otherways ingest into your body can be bad for you IF you get too much of it. as was previously mentioned, MODERATION is the key. does marijuana have side effects? absolutely. are these side effects as bad as other, legal drugs? absolutely NOT, at least in terms of should it be legal. consider the side effects of the three most commonly used (and abused) legal drugs: caffeine alcohol cigarettes/tobacco versus those of marijuana. let's all be grown ups here and face the facts. chronic, long term use of any of these 4 drugs (and any of the hundreds of other drugs, both legal and illegal) is NOT going to be good your health. in other words, to anyone who thinks its news that cannabis use could be bad for you, I say a big DUH! NO SHIT SHERLOCK! THANK YOU CAPTAIN OBVIOUS. meanwhile, I think the real issue (at least here in the US) is and continues to be ignored. and that issue is, does the government have a constitutional right to control what I put in my body? I say that it does not. The most common counter argument I get to that is that the government has a responsibility to protect the populace from harmful things. To which I reply: then why is tobacco and alcohol legal. There is NO doubt that hundreds of thousands of people die every year as a direct result of use of these drugs. And untold numbers more die as an indirect result of the use of them. So I repeat, why should pot be illegal when tobacco and alcohol are not? Finally, let me say that I do NOT advocate the use of any drugs, legal or illegal. That is a choice to be made by each individual. Adult individual.
