Toronto cops save 6 yr old girl in Raleigh NC kiddie porn - amazing work

Toronto — In the Raleigh-Durham area of North Carolina is a little girl who owes her life -- perhaps literally -- to seven Toronto police officers.

They are members of the child exploitation branch of the force's sex crimes unit, and last December, they managed to extract information enough from a collection of searing child-porn images posted on an international police website to identify the six-year-old's school.

By zeroing in on a wristband the child wore in some of the pictures, a badge on her girl scout uniform and a deliberately blurred-out logo on a T-shirt she wore under a school jumper, the Toronto squad was able to narrow the search first to the Raleigh-Durham area, and ultimately, by cross-checking with school uniform manufacturers in the area, to direct officers from the local Federal Bureau of Investigation office to the right address.

This week, in Raleigh, acting United States Attorney George Holding announced that Brian Tod Schellenberger, 41, of Cary, N.C., has been indicted by a grand jury.

He faces four counts of child exploitation and one of possession of child pornography in connection with his alleged coercion into the child-porn business of not one, but two, underage children.

Amazing bit of detective work. The Mounties always get there man, even when their man lives in another country and has never even set foot in Toronto.

And, well, in this case the mounties are the Metro Toronto Police Force.

Thought I would share this story, it literally brought me to tears when i read it.

bparker805 03-27-2004 03:06 AM

is anybody thinking of the words:

"Get a rope!"

SecretMethod70 03-27-2004 03:07 AM

That's pretty darn cool. I always liked that one show with the mounty guy - I forget what it was called.

Anyway, glad to know they got the guy. People who do that ..... *grumble*

Roark 03-27-2004 04:32 AM

Hope his cellmate's name is Bubba.. then again people who do that as well as molest kids... <grumbles>

Good work by the mounties though!

Loup 03-27-2004 04:42 AM

This was definitely great work on behalf of the detectives of the Toronto Police Service (who are not associated with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police). One more down...

thephuse 03-27-2004 05:28 AM

I hope this guy DOES get a big roomate, and becomes a nice little bitch for the next -hopefully- long portion of his life...

People like this make me sick..

People like this are sick. He deserves great punishment for what he did, but in the end he's just a person with a severe psychological problem - not a monster. Any way, kudos for those cops and their persistence in tracking this guy down.

Xell101 03-27-2004 08:08 AM

I always feel bad for the police that have to sit there are sift through so much kiddie porn, but if it gets results then it gets results.

Angel 03-27-2004 08:56 AM

That hits a little too close to the heart and home.
My niece lives in Cary and she has two little ones.
Thankful Toronto police officers were so efficient. One less sick being off the street and away from "our" children.

Police (U.S. and Canadian) work on these cases every day. It's successes like this that really shows the hard work these men and women put into their jobs.

I'd work hard if I had to look at that crap too. It'd piss me off. And I'd want to catch as many as possible cause the less of it I had to look at the better.

(not to belittle their hard work at all, just sayin)

qtpye4u84 03-27-2004 06:25 PM

yea thats sad, I feel sorry for the little girls who get hurt like that and the little boys

Hard8s 03-28-2004 12:38 AM

What I want to know is how in the world did the mom not know that something was happening with her little girl. If what they said in the article was true the little girl should have been traumitized and I am sure someone should have seen a change in her. This guy makes me sick. And people really need to do a better job at parenting. I mean really, the woman in texas renting out her kid. I really hope this guys computer gets scoured and they end up taking down a whole bunch of these sicko's.

Fire 03-28-2004 06:00 AM

Having read the full article the guy they caught needs to be tortured to death- and I realy despise the idea of torture- some people need to die, yes, but this is one of the only times I have belived that someone needed to suffer as much as possible- there realy is nothing bad enough for this guy........
And as for the cops- I used to work with abused/neglected kids and juvenile delinquents, and saw some bad stuff- but nothing as bad as those guys have to see- and they go to work every day knowing that they cannot do a thing about the majority of it.

SabrinaFair 03-28-2004 06:44 AM

I hate when people diss cops...I'm a cop's kid, and may very well go into the profession myself. Sure, they might give you an inconvienent speeding ticket and piss you off, but they also do brilliant things like in this story. That was an awesome bit of police work...good job Toronoto P.D.!

H12 03-28-2004 07:08 AM

Cops have my eternal respect, especially after stories like this...but when they pull me over for speeding, I wish they'd just piss off. =P

I might buy this for the guys that look at the stuff. The people who make it are scum if you ask me. Making money off of this stuff is evil. Lock em up and assign him to bunk with the meanest mofo in the prison.

james t kirk 03-28-2004 01:26 PM

I am not a big believer in the death penalty.

But in this case, I think the system should just let nature take its course, like in the wild when one animal kills another for whatever reason, and the guys filming it respect that it is nature's way and don't step in.

In this cae, the guy who was arrested should be put in prison. But into the general prison population, not protective custody.

In this manner, nature will take its course and he will be shanked.

mingusfingers 03-28-2004 03:22 PM

So many pricks.

raeanna74 03-28-2004 04:18 PM

It's encouraging to hear about law officers who are working so hard. They don't alway get the praise they deserve. They don't always succeed at getting the "bad guy" but when things work out like this everyone is better off.

That mother who rented out her kids? She is one reason I WANT to work with children so much. So that I'm there when they need help. I'm speachless with fury.

The Toronto police force are not Mounties. :p

Good work by these cops though, there are some sick people out there, and there are some great detectives to put them away!

Iliftrocks 03-29-2004 06:50 AM

How about the mother who "rented" her children for this crap..... String em up

neddy65 03-29-2004 07:03 AM

Children are so helpless and to have people exploit them for sick purposes makes me weep!
Thank the stars for police officers who care enough to go all out all the time. one or two children saved is eons better than none at all. Bravo!!!!!!

fro2020 03-29-2004 08:18 AM

I think the sad part about this is strictly the fact that this man will receive more assistance in planning for his trial than the little girl will receive for her recovery. Once he is convicted (hopefully he is convicted and not released on some technicality) he won't be thrown into the general population at the state or federal facility of the court's choosing. He'll be handled with kid gloves since we all know what would happen if he was placed with the 'normal' bad guys.

What has happened to my poor country that would allow this to even be possible?

Bill O'Rights 03-29-2004 08:24 AM

Yeah, add another vote for incarcerating this scum in with the general population. Why should anyone go "out of their way" to help protect this ass? Hell, even if they only sentenced him to as little as one year, it would be the same as giving him the death penalty, only a hell of a lot cheaper, and a damn sight quicker.

And what human being, much less a mother, rents kids out for sex?

Why aren't they monsters? Hurting children who are defenseless and scarring them for life is just wrong and evil.

skysooner 03-30-2004 05:54 PM

Good work by them.

Tempboy 04-01-2004 06:33 AM

Wow.. great job by the boys in blue.

RelaX 04-01-2004 01:16 PM

Now everybody, don't start a lynch mob. That guy deserves a fair trial and protection so that he can do his time like any other prisoner!

...
...
...

Yeah right!

In a dog cage... beating a little girl...
God, people like this are a special kind of sick, it's appalling that this is even possible... and that other sickos want to see such stuff...

Death is too kind for guys like that.

But really, how fucked up would a person have to be to do stuff like that? I would like to hear more about the guys background, if only so that we can all learn from it and prevent another like him being raised.

To paraphrase Dennis Miller:
"No matter what your beliefs are about Capital Punishment, if someone hurts, molests, or murders a child, there should be no rehabilitation. They need to lean in and take one for the team. They need to die."
