What Branch did you serve in?

This thread is sort of piggybacking on Uncle Phils thread, but with the discussion of veterans, I am curious about when, where, and what branch you all served in. If this has been a topic of discussionbefore, my apologies.

I was in the Air Force 95-00.
Munitions.

Luke AFB, Phoenix
Terre Haute, IN ANG

Active duty USN since 16 Aug 95.

Current rate: AT1(AW), or Aviation Electronics Technician First Class (Air Warfare), paygrade E-6.

Stationed at AIMD Oceana in Virginia Beach, VA, will transfer to USS George Washington in October.

Have deployed aboard USS Kitty Hawk and USS Dwight D. Eisenhower (twice).

Loving every minute of it.

If your ever in Korea, and you like to party, you must check out Itaewon. Just hop in a taxi and ask for, "the hill" in Itaewon. They will get you there. There is also a great open air market called, Namdaemun Market.

Skiing in Korea was fun too, but that's a long story!

US Navy
Dec 1995-Dec 1999/almost done with the Inactive reserve period

Did a month at Nuke school in Orlando (Class 9620 if memory serves, not positive off the top of my head), was glad to leave that place, even if it dropped from E-3 to E-1.

Served on the USS John F. Kennedy CV-67 in the Oil Lab as fuel messenger/pump operator/fuel supervisor/inport Oil King. Monitored and transferred 2.5 millions gallons if DFM (Diesel Fuel Marine, basically "dirty" or lowgrade JP-5 jet fuel with a higher flashpoint), maintained the fuel transfer system (162 valves) and also the fuel stripping system that was in such shape it was more than a bit scary to work with at times (pipes had holes that were semi-patched and covered years before - only way to find to them now was to wait for leaks to develop).

Left as an E-3 after 4 years (worked with Boiler Technicians - the rate merged with Machinist Mate in Sep '96), because I was deadset against being stuck in engineering ang did not pursue getting DP3 or RM3 enough.

left as a fuel supervisor/inport Oil King and the local shop computer admin/general goto guy.

I have not served, and frankly it is something I will probably always regret. I am getting a little too old to serve now so I doubt I ever will. Came close, but got a better scholarship than ROTC could provide. I have a great respect for all of you who have and are serving - including my father(Army-Korea) and currently by brother (Navy -U.S. Carl Vincent). Thank you all.

I came close to being commissioned a 2nd Liutenant in the army, but decided to rather work as a civilian at Redstone in Huntsville. That didn't last long though.

Marine Corps version of ROTC OCS to be exact) for three years in college. Didn't go down for the second six weeks of training due to mono. Recruiter said I could go to the second class that summer without a problem. I believed him. Not sure if he purposely screwed me or not but after opting to skip the first class that summer he told me the second class was full. Graduated in Dec and was supposed to go to the 10 week OCC class the following January. That class got cancelled and it would have been a year before I could get into another. So, I bagged on it and opted for a civilian life. Still sometimes regret not going through with it. I know i made the best decision I could at the time but it is probably the only thing I regret in my life.

I actually enjoyed OCS (with the exception of a few moments) and was looking forward to life in the Corps.

I am seriously considering entering the Army. I'm still young enough and a few friends of mine did choose the Army as a career...and it is something that seems to be like a choice I am willing to take.

Also I just want to say thank you guys...a lot of people bash the Armed Services but I just want to let you folks know that I have the utmost respect.
