about money..

this just in: microwave your cash, and it'll explode.

link

i mean seriously, i hate rich kids that have perfectly good money to waste. Who in the hell says to themselves "hey, my $20 bill set off a metal detector. Let's go microwave it!" Either these people are very rich, very stupid, or both.
on another side note, i don't care so much for whatever else is on that site. i just thought the idea of exploding money to be interesting. i wouldn't try it though. i like my money.

the mylar strip is RFID??? i thought it was just mylar, bunch it all up together and it's visible to metal detectors and xray machines so that people can't smuggle large amounts of cash out of the country.

RFID, I wounder about that.
The strips would be like chaff so have a frequency response.

That site was pretty well debunked, but I don't remember where. Among the highlights:
* Any stack of paper will catch fire in the microwave, starting in the center.
* The wallet probably had a tag in it that set off the scanners, not the money.

well... i dont really have a problem with that... money changes hands often enough it wouldnt be an effective method of tracking an individual person.... and it would definitely make it harder to counterfeit money...

and maybe the next time i get a 20 i'll microwave it... see if it does anything... as long as i can still use it....

my petty cash and "emergency cash" never rotates. It sits waiting, and it moves with me when I move. I would be very upset to have to disclose having it as I moved from state to state or country to country.

they can do something to help make something less counterfit without infringing on my privacy.

well that may be true for American currency, but our plastic notes would probably just melt, or shrink.

**runs off to try**
