Time Capsul Satellite. Is this a joke?

I read about this in some newspaper when I was in London. What do you guys think about it? It seems pretty illegit to me, but I did find out about it in a public reading I came across...

Pretty cool idea.. although I'd rather be on the receiving end than the giving end (isn't it always that way ).

The article said it was supposed to be lunched in 2001.. the website says 2006.. wonder if it will ever make it.

Still.. a cool idea.. if it all works out.

Pretty cool. I still think the best time capsule is the one on the moon, though.

So lets say that there is a civilization on earth 50000 years from now, and lets assume its much more advanced than ours today...they will certainly not be using CD-Roms to store information, but the question is, do you think they could find the means to get information off of them? There will probably be no records of them, and any and all advanced technologies will probably have been reinvented after some sort of catastrophe or 'dark ages', so the thought process that went into them will be completely different...who knows what they will have and if they could ever figure out a CD ROm

I'd bet $15 bucks that the satellite would get blown up in some big future space war. It'd almost make more sense to send it out into the solar system for 50,000 years then send it back to Earth. Anyhow, it sounds like a cool idea.

They altered the text to read 2006 instead of 2005, I think. It was done pretty badly, too.
Oh, and the need your e-mail address, and at least one e-mail address of a friend of yours. Spam trap alert... I doubt I will have the same e-mail address in 50000 years. I've probably bought my own domain by then.

I bet they'd be able to get the information if they only had two fingers.

That's exactly what I was about to say. Wouldn't it seem more feasable to leave the necessary supplies to be able to read the CD rather than have them try and build something? Just seems overly complicated to me. What if some unforseeable event in the future causes them to be unable to get the materials to build a CD ROM drive?
