I wasn't sure whether this belongs in the Ladies lounge (I am gender-banned), sexuality forum (but there is no sex involved) or politics (do office politics count?), so I defaulted to here:

I'm at work and I just had a meeting with my boss. She was just getting in and was taking off her coat, putting down her bag, etc.

She's wearing a short sweater (not a belly sweater, mind you, but one that stops right at the waist) and pants, and when she bent forward to put something down, I saw a whole lotta thong. Enough to know it was a thong, if you get my drift.

So the question is, do I tell her? And if so, how?

Background: we've got a good relationship, very chatty, etc., but we've never ventured into discussions of our underwear.

Why even bring it up? I don't really see that you have anything to gain by telling your boss that you got a "sneak peek", but you sure have plenty to lose. Just keep it to yourself, and be satisfied with the knowledge that you got to see some boss butt. I'll go out on a limb, and assume that it's a good thing?

If you can tell her in a non office environment, it would be better. She could pull the offended crap on you, and to HR you go. Even if you have a good relationship, she could do this. Or... just don't say a word, and enjoy the view without being caught.

Unless you are really good friends, the best bet would be to just stay mum about it.

If you are really good friends, you might want to mention it with the disclaimer "I wouldn't want you to inadvertantly expose that to people who aren't as good friends as we are"

If it were me, I'd just let it go. I see them all the time in public places, school, whereever. Sometimes it just...happens. No biggie. Bringing it up is just risking causing a problem and bringing a harassment suit on yourself.

If its something that could potentially embarrass her, like say she has a big client meeting , then I think you should tactfully let her know. If there's no chance of that happening, why worry?

If you decide to tell her, I would not use the term "thong," just let her know that when she bends over, her underwear is exposed and that you want to warn her before she is subjected to any further embarrasment

Wording carefully what you say to someone will prevent any statement from sounding like sexual harassment.

Personally, I wouldn't say anything to her unless it happens again. She may or not be aware that her thong was showing. Although some of us purposely try to show off to those we are interested in

One of my colleagues told me non-verbally with a hand gesture that my thong was showing. We are friends out of work so something like that wasn't offensive to me. If it had been someone I didn't know the reaction may not have been so calm.

I have to agree with Bobaphat and go against the tide here. If you have a reasonably good relationship with her I would advise you to tell her tactfully. Let her know her underwear is visible at certain times and that you wouldn't want her to become embarrassed in front of other employees. She will appreciate you looking out for her interests and if it was intentional she will have the opportunity to let you know. I have a good working relationship with women in my office and the few times I have told them about their garment malfunctions they are usually appreciative.

I disagree with the view that if its embarassing dont tell people. I mean it happens to the best of us and when someone tells me something like i got a booger haha not often but its happened I always appreciate it.

In this case, if it happens once in a while say nothing. If its an every day thing and you think she may not know then I would think she may appreciate being told but do it gently. Like I said tho, only if its becoming a pattern.
