Herbal teas?

I recently bought some herbal teas a friend of mine recommended for stress and relaxation. I got some nervine teas and I've drank a few cups and they don't seem to work. I boil the water i put a teabag in the big cup and then fill it with water and let it sit there for 15 minutes like it says then I drink it and don't feel the nervine relaxation effects I thought I was supposed to...Are herbal teas a sham?

Not at all, herbal teas are great, but you can't expect them to get you 'high' or anything. They will usually keep you mentally and physically in better condition, though.

As far as medicinal properties go, I doubt herbal teas can do much. You'd need a pretty potent piece o' plant to get any good effect, and hey don't usually use those plants in a teabag. However, taking the time out to enjoy a nice hot beverage on a cold winter's day or night can do wonders for stress and anxiety. It's not just the drink itself, it's the ritual of enjoyment.

It may be that the particular tea you tried didn't work for you for some reason. The things that I've heard work best are kava, chamomile, licorice root, and valerian (don't do the valerian tea - take capsules. It smells like feet.) Kava definitely works but it might interact with some medicines so you should look into that.

I've heard that kukicha twig tea has very beneficial effects. A friend of mine swears by it, but I personally stick with chamomile.

Kava's great, it really relaxes you. Another one to look into is Calea, which helps induce lucid dreaming. There's a lot of them out there, you simply have to find the ones for you. Personally I go to www.Iamshaman.com, they've been reliable in the past. But hey, it's up to you, just because one wasn't your cup of tea :P, doesn't mean that all of them are useless.

A few years ago I had Glandular Fever so bad that I had a huge trouble breathing as my throat had closed over. I thought I was going to die. When my mum told my docter he yelled at her and told her to get me to hospital to go on life support. One of my friends recommended Chamomile tea. I tried it and the effect was remarkable. It relaxed my throat so I could breath and eat. I still firmly believe it saved my life.

I suddenly got interested in herbology. An ex-girlfriend gave me a couple of satchels of angelica root tea. I came into work one morning with one of the worst hangovers ever. I thought I might as well sit down and try this tea while I tried to gather myself. In about 5 minutes the hangover was gone and I felt great. After I found that it opens up your arteries and increased circulated amongs a heaps of other things. Not only that but it tasted like drinking a lollie it was so sweet. It was awsome.

Ive experimented with quite a few other herbal tea's and most give a very minor effect but I came upon one that makes you feel great. Damania herb gives a euphoric effect and has a sweet honey type taste.

I drank rose tea once and it really worked and I loved it but then later I drank some more cups and nothing happened. Is it possible that my body adopted to the tea and now I can't ever get the effect again?

I know several people who use catnip tea frequently for relaxation/sleep aid, but it had no effect on me.

Tea can be helpful but it will have none of the effect of drugs on a person unless you down cup after cup of it. As mentioned - things with valerian, kava kava, or catnip do seem to help relax. Some of the benefit of tea is in the fact that it can replace something else that you might be drinking instead like alcohol or coffee.

I really believe that a lot of the benefit of tea though is as RoboBlaster mentioned, the ritual of the enjoyment.

Catnip in particular is more beneficial if you inhale the steam. Same as when I have my tea with eucyliptus and peppermint. I helps a lot when I have a cold. Sometimes the teas actually don't have as much effect until you use them for a while either. Don't give up on it. Herbal teas can be good for you whether you feel the help or not.

Peppermint Tea = Money :D

Peppermint has menthol, as it's active ingredient. Menthol helps ease diarrhea, headaches and colic in babies. Peppermint also contains B vitamins, calcium, and potassium.

-> Namely good for soothing stomach and aiding in digestion.

I generally feel better, overall, after a cup of tea (herbal)

:D

It's pretty mild, a little sweet, and a little floral. Not bitter at all.

thanks lurkette; sounds tasty

would it be alright to prepare the tea the night before then leave it overnight and drink it in the morning (cold)?

Chemical Smile 02-18-2004 12:25 PM

Yeah, my friend brews pitchers of herbal shit all the time and they stay effective for days.
