and this is the latest word:
http://www.mercurynews.com/mld/mercu...al/7759763.htm

if you would, please vote NO in this poll:
http://forums.prospero.com/n/mb/mess...sg=504.1&ctx=0

thanks

god, i hate stupid heartless people.
the woman that adopted that dog is too retarded to understand the well being of the dog & thusly does not deserve to have this dog or any other dog.

I refrained from voting but I think the Humane Society rules are good. They have to maintain a timeframe to keep the dogs available for the original owner to find but also need to be able to put the dog up for adoption.

I agree the timing on this is too close for the adopted owner not to return the dog. It also seems strange she was unable to find the dog on earlier visits.

I don't know, something sounds strange.

One, why does this woman have a two-year-old dog who's not spayed? Unless she's a breeding dog, there's not really any excuse. And you can buy safety collars that snap apart if the dog gets caught on something, so there's no real excuse for her not to be wearing a collar, or at least microchipped or something. It doesn't sound like she was a terribly good owner in the first place. And it's a little weird that she didn't see the dog at the shelter before, if she went there. That's just a weird situation and who knows who's telling the truth.

I think it's unfortunate, and this "finders keepers" poilcy is really bad PR. I agree that the woman who adopted the dog should give the dog back - she hasn't formed a bond with the new owners, and clearly belongs to the other woman. But I don't think the adoptive owner is retarded an incapable of understanding the well-being of a dog. Selfish, perhaps. But both parties are a bit wacko if you ask me.

yes, i agree 100% that the dog should've had identification of some sort & if it wasn't intended to breed, it should have also been spayed.

all i know if one of my dogs had lost its collar & this was my sitation, i'd be losing mind right now.

this also makes me reconsider getting the microchip implants for my 2 doggies. they currently both have ID tags, dog license tag, vacination tags, but... collars sometimes do fall off... now i am concerned about that.

Hmmm...the whole thing smells to high heaven, and the big loser in all of it is going to be the dog. The original owner doesn't have the tags on the dog. The dog isn't found, after no less than three visits to the HS, by the owner. And, after all of this, why won't the family that adopted the dog just relinquish it to the original owner. They hadn't even taken possesion of the dog before all of the brewhahha started. Nah...something's just not right here. My spider sense is tingling.

I think this is really sad actually. I believe that the Humane Society is correct in upholding their laws, although I think that 5 days is a little short of a span before giving it up for adoption.

I also think the woman who is keeping the dog is a selfish bitch. Being from San Jose, I know the Los Gatos area very well and know there are a lot of over priveledged, under deserving people who live there. Of course it is just a stereotype, but one that she seems to be falling into. Why not just get a new puppy for her daughter? When the dog was originally found, I don't think the daughter even knew what the dog looked like, unless she went there to pick it out....I dunno, just give the dog back! Sheesh!

My dogs are both chipped, not that I've EVER in more than 25 years of having dogs, lost one. They have another advantage though - the vet (at least, my vet) can scan the chip and call up the dog's complete medical history on his screen. That convenient enough for regular visits, but if I ever had to take him to an emergency vet, the vet could have his complete record at his finger tips

I know at the Humane Society here it is possible to overlook animals.

I have clients who have went there looking for their dog WITH A PICTURE of the dog only to be told by the people working there that a dog like that never came in. Later on the people ended up insisting on searching themselves.....and sure enought the dog had been there for days.

I think one of the points that was made is interesting. The dog is a 2 year old Golden Retriever. What might that dog cost if purchased directly from a breeder? I think it stinks too. I wonder if the adopting woman personally knows anyone in that branch of the HS. I wouldn't be suprised if someone tipped her off, and held the dog back somehow.

One remote possibility is that the dog was being walked on the three occasions that the owner was in the facility searching. I suppose it could be possible if she went at the same time each day like during a lunch break.

It stinks, the dog needs to go to the original owner.

However, I did vote Yes. I don't see anything wrong with the policy. If you voted No, you better donate a heck of a lot of money to your local HS in order to support a longer holding period.

The humane society needs to have a policy requiring spaying/nutering on heartless people that won't return a persons dog after they identified it.

As if a woman that would do that has the ability to provide a good home. The dog will end up euthanized in the end after the daughter gets tired of it.

How Sad.

Here's someone who can't stand to loose who's found themselves a high-pro lawyer that's told them (wrongly) that they are in the right.

Not only that, they are taking away valuable resources from the society.

Screw that. You lost your dog. You didn't have it tagged or chipped. Sorry to hear you lost a family friend, but it's your own damn fault.

She didn't have any ID on the dog, and policy is policy. Granted, if I were the lasy adopting, I wouldn't keep the dog. Especially after the whole thing is going to court, she's just keeping it to be selfish.

KFOG reported that the Humane Society person who took the call from the adopting folks in Los Gatos could hear the little girl crying in the background. That's sad. The woman who lost her dog is still willing to pay for a new dog for the little girl, she sounded extatic. Good for the dog. =)
