Blowed up. (Apache footage)

Warning - This video is not for the weak hearted, 3 people a tractor and a truck get rocked by an Apache cannon.

http://www.missouri.edu/~bam8cd/apache.mpeg

Not sure who the guys are or what they're doing (besides exploding), but the person who I got it from said it looks like insurgents trying to steal equipment.

Good job boys.

Nazggul 01-09-2004 04:09 PM

Oh my.

JohnS72 01-09-2004 04:18 PM

With footage like that, you'd almost think that American troops aren't at risk in Iraq, and yet, I'm hard pressed to remember that there are real soldiers risking their lives everyday. God bless.

Phaenx 01-09-2004 04:19 PM

What's interesting is they didn't even know they were in the dudes target until he plastered them to the ground. Very cool machines.

tenchi069 01-09-2004 04:33 PM

Clean up isle 4.

The_Dude 01-09-2004 05:08 PM

Fuck 'em, says I. You should know better than to steal shit when you are in a war zone/occupied territory. I think that will serve as a good lesson for any other thieving maggots out there.

AnUnkind 01-09-2004 07:13 PM

That was very interseting, thanks for sharing

They're soldiers. If you MIGHT be able to hurt them, they do you first. There's no second chance and nothing more important than protecting their own ass. Screw up and the enemy kills them. Take your choice. I don't fault them at all: they survived and the other guy didn't. Being in a war zone is dangerous.

Fearless_Hyena 01-09-2004 09:29 PM

War is hell.

Fremen 01-09-2004 09:52 PM

present_future 01-09-2004 10:16 PM

That's some crazy stuff right there.

cchris 01-09-2004 10:24 PM

Excellent post.

degrawj 01-09-2004 10:33 PM

wow. and how is it our guys are getting killed over there? while we're just shooting fish in a barrel? jeez.

Seaver 01-09-2004 10:39 PM

20mm Cannon > them

tommy thompson 01-09-2004 11:08 PM

OWIE.

ninety09 01-09-2004 11:25 PM

Awesome! Watching people getting killed is great! (as long as they're not American! right?) God bless those brave killers :)

zfleebin 01-09-2004 11:58 PM

I am proud of our armed forces. What we are doing is not simple and in some cases messy but the iraqi people deserve the right to live free of an oppressive regime.

Indeed, what they did was great. Glad to hear your support.

Ashton 01-10-2004 12:07 AM

Pwn3d by the 50 cal. smackdown!

Seaver 01-10-2004 12:10 AM

Ashton the Apache has a 20mm chain-fed cannon, not 50cal.

Oh, thanks for your support ninety, the men in uniform really appreciate it.

zfleebin 01-10-2004 12:28 AM

Actually, I think its a 30mm M-230. What I am left wondering is what the guy next to the tractor is frantically trying to uncover. Possibly an RPG? If you look closely you can see him pulling a cover off of something. I dont think this was just a couple hoodlums trying to steal a tractor.

Phaenx 01-10-2004 12:47 AM

I didn't notice that. He's definately going for something, didn't get it out in time for us to see what it was though.

i agree. a great man once said: "I may not agree with what you say, but i will defend with my life your right to say it".

This is an graphic clip exemplifying what much of the war in iraq is like. To me, it is thought provoking and deserves more comments than the "wow good job soldiers" variety.

I personally think that the soldiers here were justified in taking those men out whether they are insurgents/rebels/geurilla fighters or farmers/starving citizens/faithful capatilists. In a war a soldier must make decisions that directly or indirectly affect the lives of so many people. If the soldiers in the apache did not shoot these men, could they have continued on to a crowded plaza and set off a bomb? Attacked the fragile growing infrastructure of the new iraq? The decision to shoot by these soldiers was not an easy one by any means, and i'm sure must have took much courage. The actions of the (now) dead men led these soldiers to believe that the three guys were enemies and were to be dealt with accordingly. Or perhaps they had recieved orders to attack this target. In any case, there should be a certain amount of trust given to the government that we, the people created and currently support to carry out the wishes of the majority.

Gimli 01-10-2004 07:50 PM

Yeah, they deserved to die, what with that truck full of chemical weapons and nukes and all! And all those close ties to Al Qaeda.

zfleebin 01-10-2004 08:05 PM

ninety09: I dont know how you took what I said as me telling you what you can or cant say but ill take back what I said.

This somehow left the realm of an intelligent discussion and entered into a flame war. Send me a PM if you want to flame me ( I will promptly delete it, but it should make you feel better I guess ). I'm asking a couple of fellow tfp'ers to please take any name calling arguments to PM and try to keep public postings a little more mature than name calling and sarcastic flaming.

Rad those words as if they came from me. Stop the insults and keep it civil. I don't want to have to close this thread, but I will if necessary.

Stiltzkin 01-10-2004 09:12 PM

I hesitate to post in this thread, because of the politics involved. What I will add is that I felt nothing knowing that those were real people being shot down by a highly-skilled gunner, because of the sheer amount of exposure to FPS games that are highly realistic.

floydthebarber 01-11-2004 08:29 AM

This is sad, that's all I have to say about it...

denim 01-11-2004 09:58 AM

The problem is we don't have any of the context. Given that they're our soldiers doing the shooting, we should assume they had good cause.

Yalaynia 01-11-2004 10:03 AM

All I have to say is that it gives new meaning to the Shoot first ask questions later saying. I personally think that there could have been a better way of handling it. Not to mention if they were American machinces they were trying to steal they might as well have let them have them seeing they blew them away anyways.

battlemouth 01-11-2004 05:11 PM

owned, that was crazy, you could see splatter from the guys

jwells777 01-11-2004 07:45 PM

Does anybody know how this type of video managed to find its way to the public domain? It strikes me as very odd if this type of material was accidentally leaked...

tritium 01-11-2004 07:56 PM

From the same website as the video...

Where can I play this game? It looks like a hoot!

MrFlux 01-11-2004 10:10 PM

Did you try..... station.com?

tritium 01-12-2004 06:56 PM

Yeah, its not on there as far as I could tell, MrFlux.

I hope that was said with a great deal of sarcasm.

This is the second such video Ive seen. The other had audio. It does give the whole thing a sense of reality.
