we have a pissed off wanker!
I lost my fucking wallet today! How do i get my license back if the wallet is never returned....man this sucks....

Dude, forget about the license... I'd be calling credit card companies and banks. Identity theft is a big problem these days. |
i got the credit card taken care of...you're probably right about the first one, but i don't want to go all the way back there...but it's my license and i have to, i hope it doesn't cost too much
|
That sucks. I'd just go to the DMV and tell them what happened, you shouldn't have too much hastle getting a new one.

Yeah, cause if there is one thing the DMV is know for it is quick and effective service. |
Here's a tip; Shoot yourself in the foot before you go to the DMV, the wait won't be so bad after that.
|
Last i remember, replacement DL's are only like 5-10$

doesn't sound too bad, besides the whole shooting myself in the foot part, that will suck, but it's gotta be done
|
File a report with the police to protect yourself a bit against ID fraud. They take down a list of all the types of ID you had in your wallet.
Also call your banks, credit card peeps and Social Security to let them know. Hope you can sort this out with minimal hassle. I know how much it sucks to lose your wallet. :( |
The lines at the DMV are like the lines in hell..
|
we have like no lines at our local dmv. just walk in and get what you want here.
|
Funny that, I don't know what the DMV is but I'll bet it's just like our RTA - the place where you get your licence. The funny part is that no matter how you spell it the service still sucks.
Bit like McDonald's - doesn't matter where you go they are always the same. |
Thanks for all the help, i'm just waiting one more day to see if someone is honest enough to return it...

DMV here in Maryland is actually a pretty efficient place nowadays. About 8-10 years ago a 16 year old African American was able to take in a stolen birth certificate of a 36 year old Polish immigrant that he had just killed. The name of the victim was something very obviously Polish like Wvladislauiv Sybolinskiya (apologies to anyone if this actually means anything offensive in Polish) and get a drivers license. This created such an uproar tht the DMV was seriously examined and overhauled.
It sucks that the poor bastid had to die but the DMV is a hell of a lot better for the rest of us now. |
no wallet for me :( *shrugs*
|
Yeah. Now that you've gotten an in state transaction taken care of. Leave your car at home, take a flight to a state at least 750 miles away and throw your wallet away after you land.
Try fixing that problem. You're away from home, in another state, without your license. You can't get back on the plane and go home b/c the airline needs ID to issue a ticket and let you through security. You can't get bus fare b/c your money and credit cards are gone. You can't use Western Union b/c you have no ID. :) Fix that. That was my life for an entire afternoon until the police heard me bitching in the airport and took care of it all. They ran my fingerprints and picture through some sort of screening computer and fixed it for me (although they were looking to make hell for me at first. Once they figured out I was Osama, everything was cool.) |

so, while it was a shame that the Pole got killed, the end result was better DMV service. |
heres an idea.. dont shoot yourself in the foot before you go in...
...do it in the lobby Someone will help you that way, Im sure |
i successfully shot myself in the foot. but the thing is, i did it before i got there, and now i can't walk nor drive anywhere, IT'S ALL YOUR GUYS' FAULT!....*tear*...if it were true it would be more fun
|
The easiest way to avoid lines is schedule an appointment.
Funny thing about DMV's......everytime I went there I would be in the line that everyone else in line looks like they lost their license for drunk driving. Just not the cleanest or happiest looking line of people. |
I have your wallet.
|
you're sure you can't get it back at all?
i've lost my wallet three times. :-D the poor thing. once, at a mcdonalds parking lot. another, at the movie theatre and again at an IHOP |

My wife lost her ID when she was on vacation 2 years ago. In NC you can just go to a web page and order a replacement and they ship it to you. If you change your "Mail to" address they'll ship it to your current location, where ever that may be. Saved our bacon on that trip.
You do have to have a little lead time, of course. It won't help you when you are at the airport. The extremely helpful DMV person told me that you could just go to the airport security office and they can call the DMV for a faxed copy of the licence and let you through (probably with a little more screening). I haven't tried that second scenario, though. It was told to me by a DMV person, not a TSA person, so it might be a little flawed. -smarm |
