SNNNNOOOWWW!!!!

Ack- we got it!

Here in Western Washington, we have had the coldest days with penty of snow & ice- but we're expected a dump of snow again tonight- hardly any schools are open, businesses are preparing to close early and to be closed tomorrow.
Last night it got down to a chilling 13 degrees here- brrrrr.
And, to top it off, the furnace broke last week, and because of the holidays, the furnace guy could not get parts in until today or tomorrow (tomorrow they will be here to fix it)
So we have tons of heaters going and we are bundled up- ready to ride it out.
Thought I'd share- anyone else in this same experience?

phoenix1002 01-05-2004 03:55 PM

I only wish... think you could send some of that snow over to CT? It was in the 50s yesterday...

DEI37 01-05-2004 03:56 PM

Thirteen degrees? That's a heatwave. It's -3 here...expected to be -15, with a -30 windchill. Gonna get cold.

feelgood 01-05-2004 05:23 PM

Pffttt..you guys may rarely seen snow but when you live in Canada, you'd be nerve-wrecked. We get snow all the friggin time and every one in awhile, there's the big ass snowfall where the entire city grinds to halt and refuse to move around....

It's -20 Celius here and I'm freezin my ass off! Even my wool sock doesn't do shit!

Averett 01-05-2004 05:25 PM

We came back from Florida one year and our furnace was dead. Same type of conditions. Man our house was COLD!!!

punx1325 01-05-2004 05:57 PM

I have never been in a Blizzard, snow and the occasional heavy snow yes. And living in San Diego the coldest weather I see is 50. LOL goodluck in the 13 degree weather!

DonNutz 01-05-2004 06:12 PM

I love the snow. I wish it would snow 24-7.

Litespeed 01-05-2004 06:18 PM

I left the snow in Utah... here in Southern Cali and loving it. I used to wonder if snow really existed... three years in Utah proved to me that it does.

rogue49 01-05-2004 06:21 PM

I like it, while it coming down, it's calming.

After it's finished, it's beautiful.

It's the ugly cleanup after the plows after cleared and sanded the roads, that I hate.

Oh well, season's change
I appreciate each for its own. :)

viejo gringo 01-05-2004 06:24 PM

74 today---getting clear down to 46 tonight...

Sure be glad when these winter texans go back north and take this cold with them...

Oh, hell---it will be a good day to mow the grass tomorrow with out sweating like crazy...:D

Dick 01-05-2004 07:00 PM

hey fellow Washingtonian, i live in eastern washington and it got to -10 degrees last night here... and we have about 5inches on the ground or more and 6 more expected tonight or tomarrow... FUN STUFF especially when you have to work in it

ps my car is completely invisble from the street because of the stupid snow plows... I HATEYOU SNOW PLOWS, i HATE YOU!

oberon 01-05-2004 07:08 PM

I LOVE SNOW!!!!

Totally agree with rogue49.

It's 14F/-10C here, with a (brrrr) -3F/-19C windchill. Brrrrr. Even as a cold weather person that's a tad cold. :)

DEI37 01-05-2004 07:15 PM

We've got -5 now, with a -13 wind chill. Farenheit.

meepa 01-05-2004 07:30 PM

Washingtonians unite in fear against the snow!! I'm okay with rain... hell, I embrace the rain. But snow?? It's like albino demons parachuting in from hell above!!!

Feh, thats nothing, it was 73 in Charlotte yesterday.

Tophat665 01-05-2004 07:54 PM

Snow. Snow sucks. Oh sure, it's nice to look at, and if you want to strap waxed boards to your feet and fall down a mountain, it's the very thing, but, overall, it is nothing but a pain in my ass. It's a solid 50% of the reason I moved from CT to VA.

locoslomo 01-05-2004 08:27 PM

Just visited central CO and had 33 inches in two days...it was also -10F. With conditions like that, it's nice to look at but ya can't do much outside without some good gear. It was painfully cold.

InTeGrA77 01-05-2004 09:03 PM

Here in IL we were supposed to get 8-10 inches total, and we only got about 3...which upsets me since we didn't have any snow for x-mas.:(

But now that we've gotten our first snowfall, I'm sure that it won't stop till about mid-April!

Cycler 01-05-2004 09:17 PM

In oklahoma we have the cold but no precipitation. That sucks. Wish we had some of the white stuff.

anti fishstick 01-05-2004 11:25 PM

i know. it's snowing a lot here in oregon too. this is really rare. we're spose to get a storm too.

amonkie 01-05-2004 11:54 PM

Wow... and I thought I was soooo cold when my heater broke here in AZ when we had 20-30 degree Farenheit nights. But I love snow! Cold without snow is just evil.

World's King 01-06-2004 12:16 AM

I hate snow and clouds.

*slits his wrist's just to see some color*

webfiend 01-06-2004 05:26 AM

Yup, we've had some snow here in Seattle. Bet you're getting more in Puyallup, though. You only have to go a few miles in from the Sound before you catch a difference in the weather :)

ChrisJericho 01-06-2004 03:07 PM

Oh my god.... they actually closed UW for the first time since I've been here, which is 4 years. They NEVER cancel classes unless it's a complete death trap outside. I am sitting here typing this and the road by my house is still buried in 5 inches of snow.

NbCal 01-06-2004 06:41 PM

The last time it snowed here was ... never. Living at the beach is nice but I wish it I could see snow at my house atleast a couple weeks out of the year.

sexymama 01-06-2004 07:54 PM

My children are loving it. I am tolerating it. It is nice to have an extended Winter break -- but I'd much rather have the rain and work (I'm a teacher) to fill my empty days with my love away.

The heater story did remind me of the time we came home to 104 degrees and the heat pump broken. It hit a high of 114 that week and it took another week to get the pump fixed. I think it is easier to warm up then to cool down -- either is the pits!

jujueye 01-06-2004 08:25 PM

I'm with you Soul. I live just outside of Seattle myself. Funny we have not somehow met (yeah right.!) While others scoff at how little snow shuts down Seattle, I've seen the same thing happen in other cities, which I find just as funny.

Before we sold our house, we, too, had our furnace go out in November. It sucked. Not only was it cold, the guys doing the work sucked.

Good luck. Hope its over for you soon.

Dick 01-06-2004 09:36 PM

yeah last winter we ran out of Heating Oil in my old house, and we were all broke so it had to wait forever. Then the oil guy took like 3 weeks to fill the damn thing, and we had to wait for maintenance... it sucks! iam glad i have baseboard heaters now!

Hrothgar 01-06-2004 09:59 PM

Nice. It's 75 degrees and I'm wearing shorts, a wife beater, and sandals. If I lived in the cold again I would be more miserable than I currently am.

ireallydontknow 01-07-2004 12:08 AM

Send some of that good stuff down to San Jose.. please?

Lebell 01-07-2004 12:13 AM

I was going to move from Denver to Oregon, but there's too much snow up there ;)

PulpMind 01-07-2004 01:24 AM

Hey, sup fellow tek-hed........I've sure been jumpin around different boards lately...I also visit 206underground as well.
Ya, I really love the snow, although everyone else around me (except for my kids) don't care for it. Hehe, I get blamed for the snow too- I just say "You're welcome!"

fik 01-07-2004 09:33 PM

Now all the snow is melting and it is raining. :(
At least we got freezing rain all last light, that was interesting, for me.

The forecast is like 4 straight days of rain. Maybe we will get some flooding, woot. :)

viper11885 01-07-2004 10:59 PM

Yesterday, we had 7cm of snow  Colleges and universities were cancelled.

I really didn't think that it was enough snow to cancel school though :D

Saw in the paper this morning and thought it was funny that there was a picture of a couple of cars in ditches. It really wasn't much snow. I guess a lot of the drivers here suck, but we don't get much snow that often. So drivers aren't very experienced when it comes to driving in the snow.

Today, it rained for a large part of the day. The snow turned to all slush and walking in campus was brutal. Extremely wet. Temperatures aren't as cold though.

Yalaynia 01-10-2004 11:42 AM

I HATE SNOW I also hate cold and right now we have both. Sitting with a temp of 7F or -14C and it feels like -4F or -20C.The last couple days there have been cold warnings the news reports have said if you can avoid it dont go out. The police in the cities were going around looking for homeless people and taking them to shelters.
The only plus about cold is if you have someone to curl up under the blankets with and keep each other warm.

Dick 01-10-2004 12:40 PM

yes its starting to melt! hurrah now i might be able to see my car
