Just curious, I saw a segment on the news about it. I guess it's the new hot thing to do among adolescent druggies.

You supposedly take massive amounts of Robitussin cough syrup until you get a high from it.

Personally I'd probably throw it up before I felt anything. That stuff is nasty.

Did it once or twice 20 years ago, it works. I liked smokin pot much better. It was cheaper, easier to get and gave me a much better high.

Yeah I've done it a couple times. Its not dangerous to the body if you take a 4 or 8 ounce bottle of robotussin extra strength cough syrup, it is however dangerous if you take corecedin or other drugs with dextromethorphan. Its no cheap high either, you get royally messed up on that stuff. Its nasty as hell to drink it, but can be a fun time in the right environment.

Also I read the only reason this stuff is still legal is because the only other things that work on coughs like dextromethorphan does are opiates.

Yeah I've taken more Benedryl Liquid and other assorted 'Cherry' Flavored crap that I would ever wish upon another person. Bad allergies... Liquids were the only thing my body didn't grow immune to (or at least took the longest to do so).. from that I can take benedryl and not care.. Tastes nasty, but it doesn't bother me anymore,... I've had THAT MUCH... I had to take some Robotussin the other day... NASTY!!... Even for being used to the flavor... that shit is NASTY!!!!!! I needed water to wash that stuff down.. I don't wash down benedryl, I just take it and walk off.. but this stuff I needed water.. ugh. Then to think you're willing to down a bottle or two for a high? Examine your life... thats just not worth it. Just buy 6 bottles of BAWLS and chug those... Thats another great affect... and will taste great the whole time.

Dextromethorphan (DXM)

dose methods: OTC cough syrup, OTC cough gelcaps, pure powder, other (all oral)
Dose size: Varies from tripper to tripper. 200-450mg = low recreational; 450-700mg high recreational; 700-1200mg low spiritual; 1200-1800mg high spiritual. Generally, the lower doses suit a recreational use more, but some recreational users go much higher. Most spiritual doses will involve very large amounts.
Other names: Dex, robo, tussin, etc
Duration: Varies from dose to dose. About 12 hours w/o after effects
Side and After effects: Varies in intensity based on dose and personal body chemistry. At lower doses a mild afterglow is pleasant ater the trip that isn't exactly unenjoyable. It leaves you disconnected from your body, a bit burned out mentally, and very spacy. Basically, you're just a tad fried out. At higher doses the fried out sense is much stronger, and I would actually call it one of the worse hang overs you could possibly have. Sometimes it
s painful. Continued motor skill impairment after the trip is mild at low doses, while pretty intense at higher ones. buzzing in the ears is common. some people may sweat, notice increaed blood pressure or heart rate, and dilation/constriction of eyes during and after trip. Nausea and other stomach pains are common. Puking is common as well, especially with newer users. Getting it over with helps a lot.
Dose frequency: Varies. Typically a week is enough time inbetween a trip, and extremely low doses are usually pretty safe to take two days in a row. Some people believe this can result in bad, bad things... I disagree. It's true that binging or dosing heavilly will leave you really fried out for a while, but it will go away. I've never heard of DXM leaving permenent damage except for in a few cases. It's your body and we all vary. Read up on it more if you want to use more often than once every week or two.

Pre-trip Preparation advice:

Recreational and Spiritual prep

1. Make sure the concotion of which you are ingesting to use DXM has only one single active ingredient, DXM HBr or Polistirix.
2. For high doses, put yourself in a good mood. Low doses are nothing but a high really, but if you want to trip hard you need to make sure you're mind is ready so you don't have a bad experience. prepare for panic attacks and things of the nature. They happen and are more common on DXM than with shrooms.
3. Prepare a quiet environment where you can be in totaly and complete darkness with good and relaxing tunes. If you're using it for a social occasion, you guys might try spending some time together in quiet in the dark. You will thank me.
4. Have some pot ready to be smoked before and during the peak. You will also thank me.

Spiritual Extras

1. Spend time before, during, and after the trip in meditation in whatever way works best for you. Go on doing this for as long as you feel necesarry.
2. Don't trip in a party environment. If other people are tripping with you, make sure they are spiritually seeking something as you are so that you can do it together. But dont let it turn into a party.

Trip No-No’s
Before you get used to how the drug affects you, don't go in public. You might get real nautious and end up puking everywhere or freaking out. Some people also love the ability to move and black out at heavy doses.

Trip Aids

1. Never done this, but I hear grapefruit juice makes a trip more enjoyable. Don't know how or why, but a lot of people claim it works.

2. Wear sunglasses if around family or public. They will hide the robo/tripped out look in your eyes.

3. strobe lights, colored lights, and other things like that are really cool.

Dont Take DXM With
Uppers, MAOIs, SSRIs, prescription nondrowsy antihistamines, be careful if you're taking a lot of prescription medicine. Acts adversely with a lot of things I'm not sure of exactly. Check the DXM FAW on erowid.

Its not like its a cheap high, you get more messed up than on pot, and can trip very hard on it. And as long as you aren't dumb enough to take a shitload of it, its no less healthy then pot. That being said its not something I do every day, or every week, or every month for that matter. I prefer pot and mushrooms far more.

The cough syrups with codeine are the good buzzes. Be careful. . .some have much more codeine than you might expect.

The ones with dextromethorphine are garbage.

i used to buy robotussin ac back in the late 60's.it had codiene in it and all you had to do was sign a book when you bought it

i've done it once and only once, never again. all you need is a small 4oz bottle, it has to have some drug in it though. DXM i believe. it takes about 45 min to work, but it works. it works damn well.

i was fucked up for about 6 or 7 hours. it was fun, but then i thought it would never end....thats when it got bad. for me, it was nothing like smoking. its more of a feeling when you take cold pills and feel a little out of it, but about 10 times worse.

its a weird feeling, and i really wouldnt recommend it to anyone. it supposedly kill a crapload of brain cells in the process of getting you high.
