You realize shipping was 11.00 right?

I could never pay 12 bucks for 5 cokes even if they were in crystal bottles

Yep. It's a bit high. I used to get real Dr. Pepper from Texas shipped to me too. The deposit on those bottles was around US$0.46, and the shipping, PER CASE was something like US$30 IIRC.

I stopped a couple of years ago.

My advice is to make a rum & coke out of it. The alcohol might kill off any hazardous crap in it. Or it could just make the whole mess harder on your system. Eh, my brother is the biologist, not me.

You would be correct - it wasn't even very good in 1975.
About the best you could hope for now would be to mix it with some oil for a decent salad dressing.
In order for most wines to be able to age well, they must have tannins in them, which mostly come from the seeds and skins of the grape (and give the wine its red color). Therefore, as a general rule, red wines age better than whites (which are made without the skins - that's why they're colorless)

I wouldnt but then again I cant stand coke. 10 years of it sitting in the closet it might taste like a tin can. One more thing though you could make a few bucks selling it on ebay. Coke memorabilia is very collectable.

Okay, I just tried one of the Cokes from 1993. It was flat. The carbination seems to have slipped out through the glass and/or the cap and/or the seal between them. And it tasted a little "off".

Yuck.

First I want to complete the existing purchase. I only received 4 of the 5 bottles. Grrrr. It's pending, as he's supposedly looking for the fifth bottle.

I have tasted 6 year old coke before and it justs tastes flatter and less sugary than regular coke. Also I'd like to mention that the older the bottle of wine is the better it will taste.

damn i was gonna correct them, but im too late...anyways i thought red vs white wine was purple vs green grapes... in fact i was almost positive... so are u saying that they are both teh same types of grapes just with and without skin? or purple grapes with skin and green grapes without skin?

You're right - It's a little of both.

While chardonnay and chablis grapes are green, and produce white wines; and cabernet and merlot grapes are purple, and produce red wines, there are exceptions - for example, pinot grigio grapes are dark, but produce a white wine. Why? - because the seeds, stems, and skins are generally not used in making white wine. That's why white wines have less tannins.

Tannins are also a pigment, so you could generally assume that the darker the grape, the more tannins it contains. But wood also contains tannins, and many wines absorb tannins from the oak barrels in which they are stored.

Not only do tannins act as a preservative, but many wines that contain a lot of tannins are undrinkable for years - until the tannins start to mellow (tannins are astringent - they make your mouth pucker and dry out). That's why older wines are more expensive - they must be stored for years before they can be enjoyed.
Think of them as an investment - every year they go up in price.

OK - I just realized this is way TMI for a coke thread. Sorry.

Hm, I wouldn't bother...I've had old coke from the deposit bottles and it just tasted kinda stale. I dont know how old it was tho.

I've got a half liter of coke, and a bottle of sprite that I picked up in mexico about 3 years ago...unopened, but they are gonna stay that way.

It's Dr. Pepper made with cane sugar in glass bottles. See this site for more info. If you can actually get to their physical location, it's worth it. IMO. It's a little old-time bottlery with actual bottles which are actually returnable.

The ones I used to get were 8oz, which were not returnable. The 6.5oz and 10oz, OTOH, are. They're the ones with the deposit as I now recall. They won't sell the 6.5oz bottles anymore unless you bring 'em in, as they're that rare.

Hm. Looks like the 10oz bottles have reached that point too. Bummer. Wish they'd just make more of them. I wonder what would be required to make more...

(edit) By the way, I have one bottle left. I can't have it until I reach a particular personal goal. Of course, I can't order more either.

If it's any consolation, my mom still has a bottle of Canadian Whiskey from when my grandparents were married (something like 1949). Have drank some of it before...not too bad.
