how many times do you swear??

How many times do you swear a day?

I know that I do it waay to much, and should probably think about cutting down. But sometimes its just a stress reliever, and I feel like I might just BLOW UP if i didn't at times!

But anyways, I was wondering how many people actually don't swear at all? I can't get through a day without a countless # of 4-lettered words flying out of my mouth...

Sledge 12-24-2003 10:17 PM

Woo! 100%!

tikki 12-24-2003 10:18 PM

10-20, but I am working on it. It's very unattractive.

Journeyman 12-24-2003 10:29 PM

On the one hand, I need friends with a nill tolerance for obscenity like I need a hole in my head.

On the other hand, Malcom X (movie) still sticks in my head with that a man curses when he doesn't have at hands the words he really wants, so I try to find the words I really need. Sometimes, they are curses, so be it!

Rodney 12-24-2003 11:26 PM

Not often, only when my emotions get the better of me.

One of the advantages of swearing rarely is that I only tend to do so when I'm truly excited or pissed. So that people who know me realize that a swear word from me is actually a sign to really take notice of -- which is pretty much the original function of swearing.

dragon2fire 12-24-2003 11:29 PM

i never fucking swear god dam it mother fuckers

ok maybe i swear a little

Phaenx 12-24-2003 11:35 PM

I voted 10-20, but then like 2 minutes ago I just exceeded that limit in one sentence.

Jam 12-25-2003 12:04 AM

damnit... i fucking lost count.. shit sorry bitches

Hrothgar 12-25-2003 12:10 AM

I swear...but in a good way.

Spartak 12-25-2003 12:56 AM

Depends on the situation, if I'm in high company I don't swear, in order to be respectful. If I'm at a party or at the bar with some friends I cuss like a sailor.

watupyo 12-25-2003 02:25 AM

does irc and msn chat count, if so then is omg i dont know D:

but irl _HEAPS_

spived2 12-25-2003 02:40 AM

I cuss like a soldier. no other way to describe it.

Fearless_Hyena 12-25-2003 03:17 AM

well WHAT THE FUCK, who's counting?!?! i curse where and when i want, but if i'm in company where i know it's not the right place, then i try to avoid pissing people off. it works sometimes. but inevitably i'll drop an F-Bomb in front of someone's mother and get blasted for it

BonesCPA 12-25-2003 04:58 AM

It seems to be less and less as time goes on. (Ironically, my father seems to be increasing as time goes on. Guess I have to get around to firing him at somepoint. ;)

ninety09 12-25-2003 05:05 AM

I tried to avoid swearing as much as possible.

Destrox 12-25-2003 05:20 AM

This makes us people who swear only in the presence of others who swear look bad.

Theres a difference of swearing anywhere, and swearing smart. (That just doesnt seem right :P )

Oh, I voted 20-40 :D

GakFace 12-25-2003 06:13 AM

Ok, I sorta Hijacked this thread, I'll leave what I said. I did create a new thread so that my thoughts can be discussed in further detail without taking away from this thread any. The link is here:

Well, this leads me to question what exactly a "swear" word is in your views. To me a word is a word is a word, and shit means nothing more than shoot does when used in the same context.. Two 'O' replacing a single 'I' does name make a word mean any less than it did before.

There is the quote by Shakespeare, "What is in a name? A rose by any other name would still smell as sweet".

This is by what I mean.. Also, I don't see a "swear" word as a "Swear" word unless it is used in such a context used to demean someone. As to be used in hatred, anger, or simply to put someone down. THAT is what a "swear" word is to me. Society took words and made them "bad" yet allowed you to use another word that means the EXACT same thing and be acceptable? Thats crap. My working defination is what I find to be a much better meaning.

FROM THIS, if I call someone an idiot and its not plainly obvious that I'm joking, then I'm swearing. If I'm angry with them and tell them they should go to hell then I'm swearing, and so on and so forth. I will vote accordingly to this. Society's terms just do not make any sense to me.

From this, My answer would be "Sometimes I Let One Slip"

krwlz 12-25-2003 12:41 PM

I voted 20 to forty, but I could probably exceed that fairly easily.

The_Dude 12-25-2003 02:22 PM

I play counter-strike, red alert 2 and also have a little brother. so yeah, i cuss a lot!

silent_jay 12-25-2003 03:06 PM

way more than i should

omega2K4 12-25-2003 03:15 PM

I lose count.

sailor 12-25-2003 03:23 PM

Hey, what can I say, Im a sailor :D

I swear a lot, but I try to avoid the more unsavory words, especially in a social context. I swear at my computer all the time though.

TopRamen66 12-25-2003 04:03 PM

I swear quite a lot. I try to keep it down around the ladies, but shit happens sometimes...gotta find the right words for the moment.

viejo gringo 12-25-2003 05:31 PM

Man, I used to "cuss like a sailor". one day my wife asked if I talked like that around those young people a church---I honestly did not know.....so, I made an effort to stop and think before I spoke and I have pretty well over come the foul mouth.....

The only time I let fly now is when I am driving by myself around some of these stupid winter texan drivers..!!@#$#^^^^&& IDIOTS...:D

Tophat665 12-25-2003 06:22 PM

All the fucking time.

Edit: Actually, while I do tend to swear what I consider frequently, I was hanging out with a buddy the other day who I have always considered fairly cultured, and the man couldn't seem to finish a sentance without swearing. I was floored. It's not like he was raising his voice or anything, but more in the nature of punctuation. After a while it was just null sounds to me, though the barkeep (an older woman) was giving him the stinkeye.

When I think about it, I find that I actually tend to swear when I am either angry, surprised, or deliberately speaking in dialect. I don't shy away from it, but words have more power the less you use them.

forseti-6 12-25-2003 07:28 PM

I rarely do unless I see a true need to. In my opinion curses are supposed to express a very explicit emotion. If you abuse the words, you lose the "meaning."

herostar 12-25-2003 07:44 PM

maybe 2 times a day, maybe 3, some days more, some less

I try to keep it down though... when I'm drunk it's like streams of obsenities... lol

Ditto. Like a mother fucking soldier.

World's King 12-25-2003 09:09 PM

FUCK... ASS

Not that often.

Nachtschleicher 12-25-2003 11:48 PM

I try not to cuss often. At least, I try not to when I'm around people like my family, a female, people like that. Basically I only cuss when I'm trying to add extra oompth to my point, or I let one slip out when I make a mistake, or something along those lines. I used to cuss a lot, but then I realized how afwul it sounded talking like that. So I stopped. :)

papermachesatan 12-27-2003 01:15 AM

I have found this poll to be unsatisfactory. I do not fall within the "I let one slip by ocassionally" and "10-25 a day" categories. A in between option, 5 - 10 daily should be present.

:D

flamingdog 12-27-2003 06:54 AM

all the fucking time

Snakebyt 12-27-2003 07:34 AM

I cuss way too much, i try to watch it around the house with the kids and all though.

Spanky Johnson 12-27-2003 08:10 AM

Since my kids were born, I rarely swear, though sometimes I think swear words/and or mutter them under my breath.

feelgood 12-27-2003 08:35 AM

Every goddamn minute of the day :D

Amethyst 12-27-2003 09:09 AM

I would say 10-20 times a day. But I am trying to quit. My daughter gets very angry when you swear so I think I should quit.

Nikilidstrom 12-27-2003 02:05 PM

I swear so much that when I say something without swearing, it feels wrong. Besides, fuck just goes with everything.

in example:
unfuckinbelievable
congratufuckulations
you've gotta be fist fucking me
what the fuck
could you hand me that fuckin thing over there
fuck you and anyone who looks like you
who's that guy? You know, Mr. what his fuck?
and so on, and so on.............

OFKU0 12-27-2003 03:01 PM

I'm a hypocrite because at times I say what I want. Yet, in other company, I tone it down. But then sometimes I just don't give a fuck.

ktthequeen 12-27-2003 03:17 PM

Waaaaaaaay too much. I don't think I could count the number of times in a particular sentence, let alone an entire day!

vermin 12-27-2003 03:24 PM

I speak very few words in an average day. I think a lot of foul language but don't say it out loud.

Out loud: sometimes I let one slip

In my brain: I lose count cuz it's WAY more than 40 (it's probably more than even 40 per hour)

We've started a swear jar at home 'cause I heard my four year old son say "big fuckin' bitch" while he was in a restaurant bathroom (he thought he was alone). Now we all have to watch our mouths (or pay up) so's not to negatively influence the impressionalble.
