Somebody took my pic going into an adult bookstore
I has turning into the parking lot, and this dude just took my pic. As I was leaving the place they had put up a sign that said they were with war-line, and they were taking peoples pics, to try and shut the place down. At first I was pissed, but then I figured that they were probably not well funded, so they wouldn't be publishing the pics in the newspaper or anything. So I guess it is no big deal. They still suck though.
Any thoughts on this whole phenomena? |
Have you read this thread? Sounds like you might be able to contribute first-hand knowledge to it.
Also, here's the War-Line Busted Photos. Are you posted there yet? |
This is interesting ... perhaps people should reciprocate and follow these jerk-offs to wherever they go ... take their picture .. and post in the newsgroups.
did you smile?
I see that being so worth destroying thier camera over.
Or at least getting them to write me, in paper and signed, saying they WILL NOT WHATSOEVER use these images in any public manor. Else they will be sued for extreem amounts. That or the camera... thier choice. |
Isn't that slander/libel, i forget which is which, or deformation of character?
It isn't defamation of character, as they are not saying you are really doing anything wrong are they? You should have full rights to stop them using the photo though, much like that thing with Britney and GQ, they could only use her pics because she agreed to it.
I saw that video of the guy being sprayed on the news.. funny stuff. If I were the store owner though I would go rent a bunch of large spotlights and point them directly at the protestors until they gave up and left.
Woah. Major bummer. Is that even legal?
Isn't there a law against taking pictures of someone who isn't a public figure (without permission)? Don't newspapers need to make sure that they have permission from the picture takee before publishing?
i think it is wrong, but not alot you can do about it.. well you could always wait till one of them need to take a leak in the bushes or somthing and take pics of that. Just imagine a pic of one of them protesters with there penis out in the parking lot of an adult bookstore.. reminds me of pee wee herman :)
same thing happened to me dude, I got pissed and calledthe manager, and he took a hose and drenched the photographing phantom.
calmly write them a letter threatining legal action unless all images taken are given to you, as well as the negatives, if any thing is ever posted sue them. they do not have the right to post your image. in addition it will be posted to defame you, which is not there right under the 1st amendmant

Sounds like yet another organization with good goals (stopping rape and sexual assault) but in need of a revised plan of action. Do they honestly believe that taking pictures of people entering adult video and or book stores will reduce instances of rape? There are definitely better, more effective things they could be doing with their time.
i have a few questions about this, though i hope it doens't piss anyone off too bad.
Would you be pissed off if they took your picture just doing normal everyday things? (ie other than entering a porn store which may be considered taboo or something?) The fact that it was at a porn store, is that what makes it so annoying? if it was at a supermarket, would you be bothered by that? I don't see how this can be libel if you were entering the establishment on your own accord? How is it falsely accusing you of anything? I don't really know anything about laws about taking pictures, although i imagine with the amount of celebrities pictures you find in those woman weekly magazines (i see the adds, i don't read them :p ) that it's legal to take pictures of anyone? If not, how can these magazines get away with it? unless laws are different in Australia? Overall, why does it matter so much that people know you visit these places? I know it's probably not want you want your mum to find out about, but if you go there, then so be it? why be bothered about hiding it? these are genuine quesitons which i hope someone can answer rationally for me. Thanks :) |
That would make me very angry, you should of broke their camera, then they couldnt take pictures, also i would write to them thretening legal action, they will likely destroy your pic rather than face a lawsuit.
In my publishing experience these wingnuts could easily be sued and found in violation of an individual's right to privacy. It is almost "open and shut".
Here are a few references: http://www.publaw.com/photo.html |
It is perfectly legal to take a picture of someone in a public place.
I'd give them something to take a picture of. ;)
I'm with jbrooks. Any pictures taken and published need a signed waiver that they can print or publish them. Even in these day of home web publishing, you could easily and smartly win a court case. Its unbelievable that people have so little to do other than try to press their morals on the rest of us heathens. Freedom fo speech my ass. For fun, we should submit their website to some hacker organization so they go away soon.
they dont look well organized, they dont have very many pics either. like its that hard to find anyone that goes to nudie booths or porn stores
Getting mad about it just draws attention to them and serves their cause.
If you are in a public place, anybody can take your picture and post it wherever they want. Nothing to be done about it. It would be impossible to report the news if you had to ask each person that appeared in one of your photographs for permission to publish it.
Look guys, really... if you are a face in the crowd - fine, no lawsuit. But to be singled out and associated with a political cause, etc. etc. etc., This is an open and shut case. Anyone who says otherwise is just plain wrong. I hope someone takes my pic and posts it on their site b/c I KNOW I would sue and win and collect.
I'm in publishing - print and web, etc. This really isn't that gray a subject. Any real publisher knows (or quickly finds out) about what is and isn't allowed. What these wierdo anto pron folks are doing on their website is not legal. The way the system works is you sue them and you win. It is so NOT true that it is ok to print or post anyone's picture, etc. You are free to do it but then you can get sued and put in jail |
I don't care where I am, when someone takes my picture without my permission I go crazy.

Further, you cannot stop them from doing whatever they want to with the photographs. They took your picture in public. Being in public leaves you with no expectation of privacy, and it allows them to record anything a normal person could see unaided. |
Pose for the shit. If you are ok w/ going into the store who cares.
After viewing their website, the photos are just headshots with no detailed background or setting visible.
Pretty weak, as they could be headshots of anyone at any place, as they are just headshots without any setting visible. A portion of their "mission statement." Quote:

Heaven forbid someone like porn. I wrote to the place and asked for a t-shirt. ;) They seem to be free... I told them I'm a stripper trying to get out of my job. ^_^ -+ Ivy +- |
WHY DIDN'TYOU FLASH THEM

If adult bookstores and titty bars cause rape, maybe we should shut down restaurants and grocery stores, since they cause obesity. Some people take there causes to the extreme.
here's my idea
you're walking out of a porn store, right? so if they're trying to take your photo, open the copy of 'color climax' you've bought to the dirtiest page possible and grin whilst holding it next to your face |
Did anyone else notice that the pictures they had up were mostly of black men?
There were two white guys amid swarms of blacks. It looks to me like one or two right wing, racist, religious fanatics trying to make a statement. They have not done any research to back up what they are saying, nor is their method of saying it effective. They probably have lots of repressed emotions and psychological damage from childhood. I would say I feel sorry for them, except for the blatant racism and bigotry. Oh, and the obviously edited picture of the guy holding a sign that says advertises for War Line. If you're going to fake being at a protest, at least fake it well. Meh. |
I can see the deal with this being demeaning, as they are saying that porn causes rape, but what is the big deal with having your picture taken randomally? If I were just walking down the street and someone snapped my picture, I'd be like, wtf, for about .23 seconds then live my life. Maybe they will photoshop it or something and I'd get a laugh out of it later.
Mooseman, the guy that took a picture of me was black, so I would doubt its a racist organization.
After seeing the website I am no longer upset about it. It looked pretty rinkydink, just as I had suspected. My picture isn't up there, kind of a shame, I might have shared it with ya'll |
In my city a few years ago, they had a big prostitution sting. It was the plan of the police department to put the pictures of the johns up on display on BILLBOARDS. Thankfully they didn't go through with it. I can imagine the people who thought of that idea probably have superiority issues.
It would be funny to get confronted by a photographer leaving an adult bookstore, and then try to cover up your face with a strand of anal beads. |
That sucks. Everyone should be able to buy porn in anonymous peace.
Shouldn't that be illegal? Someone views that business as immoral, therefore they being doing something, with all their moral authority, that potentially will have a detrimental effect upon that's business's ability to sustain itself.
people shouldnt be allowed to take your pic like that without permission
