Rollerskates or rollerblades ???
My sis reckons rollerskates are better than rollerblades coz rollerblades might look cool but you cant do as much stuff with them (tricks??). Rollerskates are more "disco". Can you dance in rollerblades??
Opinions please... Ta. |
Dancing in rollerblades? I do a shimmy and a couple of pirouhettes(sp) every time I try to stop. Other than then, blades are just much better. It's sort of like the difference between skiing and toboggoning for me.

I'm all about the rollerskates.
I was the King of the Rink when I was in elementry school. |
I'm gonna go stand on the rollerskate side of the room. But, that's mostly because I'm 41years old, and have never had my feet in a pair of rollerblades. I used to really be able to tear up the roller rink, back in the late 70's. Now, I'd probably just look like an idiot, and break my fool neck in blades, or skates.

I loved the roller rink when I was a kid.
I'm all about rollerskates...I'm an 80's guy besides, my ankles can't take my weight on blades. :( |

Rollerblades aren't too bad, but, they are tough on the ankles. :( You can do tricks with both, but you can do more tricks on skates. |
Blades are faster and easier to learn. At least for me, the extra length of the footprint helped me stay upright. I'm a clumsy fucker and I didn't fall once the first time I tried them.
|
I favor rollerblades just because I'm more used to them. The motions between the two are different enough for me that I forget that I'm using skates, and I stumble forward as a result.
|
You can do more tricks on skates but your more agile on blades. I played inline Hockey for a couple of years and I personally prefer to be able to weave in and out of people really fast than to do multiple piroettes (is that how you spell it). Saying that I would love to be able to do all the fancy tricks.
|
Roller blades definatly! I used to skate all the time at random skate parks and down town ft lauderdale. More fun than you can have at the roller rink!
|
i say blades, i used to rollerskate when i was younger, but now after being on blades, they just feel funny, and not near the control
|
Rollerskates are a bit easier for dancing and tricks, the wider platform makes it more balanced then blades. You actually need more ankle power in rollerskates to pull off some moves then in blades because the extra width works against you.
But for aggressive or racing... blades no question. |
I feel more comfortable on blades. I learned on ice skates and it transferred to roller blades easily. Skates just feels awkward (especially those cheap kind you strap to your shoes!)
|
Rollerskates feel alot like ice skates.. and I haven't done ice skating for a loooooooooooooooong time. I've done alot of rollerblading though, and I am comfortable with it. Its like second nature to me, and I love it.
These days, when ever I get on roller skates, I fear I may trip backwards and crack my skull (I mean, my helmet :D) open. No thanks, its blades for me, until I re-learn. Still, I can see the appeal of skates, and think they are, like, totally groovy and rad  |
Rollerblading is much better. I started off on skates, but once I tried blading I couldn't go back. No seriously, for some reason once you blade it's very hard to go back. I could do everything I could do on skates on my rollerblades plus you can go a lot faster on blades. You also dont have to stop with your toes.
|
I used to use rollerskates when i was younger, I felt like such a nerd seeing everyone else with rollerblades.
Wait a sec... I am a nerd! :p |
Rollerskates are like Ski's. The old cool.
Rollerblades are like Snowboards. The new cool. |
rollerblades?
Skate boarding for an old skool hobby ( deathbox) and kite bording for the new thrill. Not very good for a disco, also they have banned kite boarding on lakes etc after a kart killed a innoc.
|
Snowboards? The new cool? Were you cryogenically frozen in '93?
;) Oh, and do try not to sit under jumps eating chocolate when I'm coming down on my old-cool skis, scruffy. |

can you even buy skates anymore? I used to be really good on skates so my loving wife bought me a set of blades.....they suck, every time I stand up I feel like I'm going to die.
|
I'm only messin' with you, End User! If it'll avoid a diplomatic incident, I'll explain:
By sitting under jumps I was referring to snowboarders' rather upsetting habit of having a rest in the middle of the piste, where I'm about to come down dangerously quickly. Did I say eating chocolate? I meant to say smoking drugs - which is fine but that's what the chairlift's for isn't it?:) Oh yes, and scruffy - take a comb with you for the lift queue and try not to wear those silly combat pants. Camouflage on snow means white trousers... Sorry, don't wish to hijack the thread. Ciao! |
More tricks? Definitely the 'blades. Ever seen aggressive inline?
|
i´ve tried on countless occasions to skate.
be it on Rollerskates, Rollerblades or Ice Skates, i just cannot do it. i can ski on the other hand, but very poorly, and i´ve never tried snowboarding. i cannot skateboard and i cannot surf (well i can, but its never more than i few seconds standing up). so, i´ve come to the conclusion that anything with the words board, roller or skates attached is something that i shall avoid. but, i have seen these sports on television. i like the idea of rollerskating and its whole ´80s cool that Rogue mentioned. i´ve seen some pretty amazing stunts done on blades and boards... but i couldn´t pick between them... |

ehehehheheh i've had enough of them damn fool snowboarders thinking they are all pro doin 180 mute grabs, collecting snow on their butts above the inrun. That being said, I am friends with many good snowboarders, but i remain quite opposed to the run scrapers and crash kids (boarders that sit at the end of a jump for some reason after bailing) that the learning curve of snowboarding requires. End User- i think you need to get past the differences between boarders and skiers and realize that we both are just having fun riding. It doesn't matter so much how you get down, but more so THAT you are gettin down the hill, and enjoying it. I appreciate a good boarder- I love seeing that nice single track sweeping side to side across a groomed track or a thick path through some deep pow. The mountain and the park is open to all comers that can take them. and back to rollerblades vs. rollerskates- i prefer rollerblading much more than rollerskating, but that is mainly because i grew up with them i think. I have tried to rollerskate, but i found it akward and that it took more energy to keep moving. |
Going to vote blades here. I always struggled with skates as a kid and was constantly frustrated (and crying to mother) because I couldnt do it. Then the kid down the street got a spankin' new pair of blades and let me try them and zoom away I went. As far as tricks go I'd say blades too, but thats just my assumption based off all the EXTREME SPORTS crap thats on tv, you see blades a whole lot more than skates.
I also skate around my home town and get yelled at and called a "fruit booter" by the 12 yr olds who skate board and claim that bladers "stole all our tricks". Amazing how those kids will insult a 21 yr old to his face with no fear, I sure as hell didnt do that when i was 12... |
