WINDY 'DOG' TERROR ALERT
A toy dog which breaks wind when it bends over sparked a major security alert when its owner tried to take it through an airport in the United States.

Briton Dave Rogerson said he could not believe what was happening when the life-size mechanical terrier set off an explosives detector at Norfolk airport in Virginia.

Armed security staff sprang into action after something in the dog's "wind breaking" mechanism apparently registered as high explosive TNT on their sensitive equipment.

Mr Rogerson, 31, from Leeds, was grilled by FBI agents and looked on in amazement as they took a series of swabs from the replica animal's rear end.

They eventually returned the dog but stopped Mr Rogerson taking his planned flight to Charlotte, North Carolina, and re-routed him via Philadelphia.

"They told me its was the highest reading they had for explosives and they took it very seriously," said Mr Rogerson.

"They were very jumpy and convinced there was something explosive in the dog."

Mr Rogerson, who was heading home to Britain when the incident happened, said he was not formally arrested but was questioned for a number of hours.

The situation was made worse, he said, because he had placed his passport and boarding card under the dog as it passed through the sensor machine.

When the agents demanded his papers he had to tell them they were in the isolation zone around the dog.

"They were very, very serious," said Mr Rogerson. "They weren't aggressive but I got a real grilling.

"I couldn't believe where the FBI agents were putting their swabs.

"They must have got whatever it was off the dog because they let me have it back."

Mr Rogerson said he has named the dog Norfolk, after the airport.

What kind of toy IS this? It says life-sized, I wonder if that means it is as big as, say, a Golden Retriever, or as small as a poodle.

This story is odd in so many different levels.

It was a life sized mechanical terrier. Terriers are, erm, small.

Funky story. Dogs that break explosive wind, swabs around the danger zone and other crazy mishaps.

Back before all that 9/11 stuff my family went to Puerto Rico I think, and we got stopped for a random bag check, and the guys were freaking out over my brother's fart machine. It was just a little electronic device that let off a nice little fart noise periodically, and the old geezer thought it was some kind of evil device to take down a plane.

airport security is a stupid idea.

El Al has the right idea - let the passengers have whatever they want, but if they whip it out - waste 'em the right way, and then ask questions..

that's a scary kind of hillarious. I wonder what the substance was. I wonder how many other substances (playdoh - modeling clay, work gloves with fertalizer on them, glue, etc) would set of a false positive like this. The fact that it was from the toy dog's ass was really funny.

So what is your point WhoaitsZ? Aren't you supposed to provide an opinion with your post according to the rules. I'll tell you what I think when you tell me what you think.

Z really doesn't need a point.. his emoticon says it all.. lol  Yes it is a crazy story... But then again maybe something that the mechanism uses is related to one of the chemicals used in bombs.. meh.. ya never know

It's kind of funny, but i could see why places would be a bit suspicious about things after 9/11

as for the guy, he sounds like an idiot.

He had to point out that they weren't being aggressive, but he got a real grilling.

And him saying, 'they got whatever off of the god, because they let me have him back'. What the fuck does that mean? Why would you even put that in a news article? It makes no sense!!!

Anyway, i think this is funny, but also the news making it out to be bigger than it is, again.

Stupid news!!!

Fuck, i am drunk. I shouldn't post when i am drunk

tehy got whatever off the god... hehe

i also missed an 'is' in there. Can you find out where?

I have gone to flying in just my speedo and my flip flops. Security is a breeze and I seem to get a lot of personal space while in the airport. Sometimes I get two seats to my self on the airplane.

Great. Just great. Now I've got a mental image of your big burly biker ass stuffed into a pair of speedos. I can't even begin to imagine how many hours I'm going to have to spend on the TB to clear that image. :D

The guy is 31 years old and brings a toy farting dog with him on a plane trip. Sounds like a real winner. I wonder if there really wasn't something dangerous in that dog.
