I didn't take the SAT.... I was only planning to attend state schools, and the ACT was enough for me. I took it fifteen years ago, and I scored a 32 overall (out of a possible 36). I scored a perfect 36 in Language Skills.... I flunked out of college the first time back in '90 and have only recently gone back to college.... Community college with the intention of transferring to the 4 year school here.

When I enrolled, the advisor had to take my ACT results to her supervisor because she'd never seen anyone make a perfect score in any section of the ACT. *grins* Maybe I should have taken the SAT. heheh.

I got a 1410.. math slightly higher than verbal. Don't remember the exact scores, but I'd guess it's 690 and 720. Currently going to UC San Diego.

[EDIT - I remember now, it had to be 690 verbal since 700 was the cutoff to get into the honors program at my university]

Also took the SAT IIs - got a 790 on the Math2c, 700 on Verbal, 700 on Writing.

Just as a note, in 7th grade I took the SATs as part of this program, and got a 1090. 1100 was the cutoff for this scholarship... bastards. It's a little scary though that me as a 7th grader did better on the SATs than the average high school student (it's weighted so that a 1000 is the average score).

Just as an added note, for universities like Cal Tech, the MEDIAN score among incoming freshman is a 1600. For those who don't follow, that means that over half the people who go to the school got a 1600. Talk about competition! I didn't even bother applying to Cal Tech.

I took it in 1991, I cut an 1170 but I don't remember the breakdown. Verbal was higher. The test was a bit different then, no calculators allowed as I recall. I took it again unofficially since I've been in the Navy and scored a 1520. What a difference getting into the real world makes.

I am amazed I still remember my scores - 800 math (no calculators allowed), 780 verbal, that was in 1982 and I think I peaked with intelligence then, and have just gotten progressively stupider over the decade.

Double major in Math and Finance from Tufts University in Mass.

Back in my high school, SATS were mandatory, but it was class rank that meant everything and what got you into the choice schools. (I had a 3.9 average throughout my high school career, and barely made top 100 in mygraduating class.

20 + years later - none of that matters -- it's all about what you can do today - not what you did when you were 17.

I had taken it back in 6th grade and had an 1100.

I received a 30 on the ACT.

It took me 3 years after high school to decide to go to college at a local university.

Same exact scores as Kugr, imagine that! (730 math, 710 verbal, 1440 total)...but I did way better on the SAT II for math (780), and that was considerably more complicated. It's those nasty little silly questions that screw me up, the hard stuff I can do!

Currently a junior at an underappreciated (but very good!) school, planning to go to grad school in physics. SAT's helped get me where I am today, though...my grades weren't too hot, but they showed college I wasn't an idiot. With good grades though, maybe they wouldn't have made such a difference? ...at any rate, I like tests. A little bit of invested time, big payoff!

The reported scores are extremely high. I'm tempted to run an independent samples t-test to determine the probability of so many people in this forum obtaining such high scores. Even if the people who scored lower are not posting, I doubt we would have a normal distribution of scores, rather I think it would be a negatively skewed distribution. The mean of each subtest is around 505-510 and the standard deviation of the SAT subtests is about 111. So if I were to round, 68% of students score between 400-600 on one of the subtests, 5% of students score 600-700, and <1% of students score 700-800. We have a whole bunch of 1400 total and above here. I'm not implying that anyone is lying, but dang! its very peculiar.
The test-retest coefficients of the SAT range from the mid .80s to mid .90s and other methods of obtaining reliability are pretty high. However, the actual correlation between the SAT and collegiate academic outcomes is around .30, not so good.

And I should have gotten better on math. (I was captain of the math team when we won states, after all) Come to think of it, I probably should have gotten better on verbal, too. But that's what I get for not caring when I take the test, as well as only taking it once.


Now, as for me... I went to 3 semesters at McGill University for Mechanical Engineering. I dropped out because I loathed it. At the moment I'm applying to West Point, but with my last semester grades from McGill, I may not make it in. Being smart but lazy doesn't bode well for the whole college scene. Ah, that's life.

The only time I took the SAT was in 7th grade for some experiment. I believe I got around a 960.

I ended up high school with a 3.23 GPA, and I can remember my "senior conference" with my counselor. It went something like this:

(picks up a list of scholarships) "You can get 5,000 dollars for this... oh, wait, you need a 3.25 for that. Oh, wait, here's another 3,000... never mind, you need a 3.25 for that too. Oooh, here's... awww, never mind. That's very odd, your ACT scores and your GPA don't match up. It usually goes the other way around."

If only I wouldn't have taken 2 years of distance learning Latin...

I find it hard to believe a lot of the people got the scores they did here. I'd love to see this in a t-distribution or something.

The thing that gets me is the fact all I can remember is I got an 1190; I have no idea what I got on the math and verbal part separately. Makes me wonder how people remember it this well, years later. I only took it like 4 years ago and I can't remember, not one clue, the score for each part. I think I'll give myself 1540 :)

Math was 670. Total 1470. I remember having two Quantitative Comparison sections for math (the one where you fill in your numbers instead of having multiple choice options) and knowing that there's only supposed to be one... so one of them was the experimental section. Didn't matter much though, since both of them were hard as hell. I go to Barnard College now and have come to no grand realizations about SAT scores, colleges and careers except for figuring out that academia is not the place for me. Maybe the question of the thread should include GPA, class ranking, and extra-curricular activity since colleges are so big on looking at the whole individual.

In that case, I had a 3.2 GPA, 28 ACT, class ranking of about 50/160, and was in a KMEA State Final Four marching band (a big deal in KY), got numerous awards as a member of our academic team, and right before graduation was given a certificate of commendation in music by the National Society of Art and Letters. All of that and through my first semester at a community college (LCC) have earned a whopping 2.75 GPA. All that shit was for naught.

I agree with costello. I took my act and im still in my junior year. I got a 25 so i will definitely take it at least once next year just for scholarship purposes. Basically, my score guarantees that i get accepted to Illinois State U, but some financial aid would be nice from a baseball scholarship

I doubt that the reason for the high scores is the low-scores not posting. There are way too many scores of above 1300, 1400, and 1500 here.
There are people that are definitely lying here. I am not saying everybody is, but some are. It is pretty easy to say that you got a 1560 instead of a 1060, who is really going to know except you?

In 2001 I scored a 1520 (800 verbal and 720 math) and I thought the whole thing was total bullshit.

I ended up going to Purdue University - Hail Purdue! The guy I was dating at the time scored a 1220 and was enrolled in Freshman Engineering at Purdue and was given a full ride (which he subsequently turned down). I scored a 1520 and was enrolled in Animal Science (focus on pre-veterinary medicine) and wasn't offered shit from Purdue. Obviously they favor their damned engineers a bit more.

Took the test twice before that and got a 1280 both times, the third time i took it i had had reconstructive knee surgery about 6 days before, and had to go to the test on codine pain killers and residual effects of the sleeping medication i had to take to fall asleep because of the pain. ended up getting 80 points higher, so who knows what those tests mean.

I was a C student through high school, and most of my teachers, as well as my guidance counselor, were convinced that I wasn't going to go to college. I also scored several 90+ scores in NYS Regents exams for English, Social Studies, and Spanish. My teachers shit themselves when that happened!

I applied for several schools: Syracuse (dad went there), SUNY at Binghamton, SUNY at Buffalo, Edinboro University, and Allegheny College. I couldn't afford SU, Binghamton turned me own after a second interview, and Edinboro turned me down outright.

My mom and dad took me to Allegheny for a scholarship exam, and I apparently scored high enough to get a full scholarship. Funny thing was that I don't remember being told about that...seriously, my parents make fun of me for not taking the scholarship and I always ask them if they were sure they told me about it. Maybe I was drunk.

Anyhow, I decided not to go to Allegheny because it was sooo tiny. SUNY at Buffalo let me in, and I tested out of all freshman english and math courses. Got my BA in Communication, and another in Anthropology.

Hmmmm, maybe I SHOULD have taken that full ride at Allegheny...
