SAT waste of time..took the ACTs once my senior year..I was even thinking about the future..I despised high school. I got a 27 and like Yzerman I got a 99% on my reading. The part that was bad was math and thats because I only took up to geometry in high school cause math fucking sucks. Course I could lie and be like..oh man check my 1540 on the SATs to make you guys think I'm badass

Ha ha, I laughed out loud on that one.

Lasereth 11-02-2003 05:43 PM

It's annoying when people say they made XXXX on the SAT and say that it's bad. The national average is 950-1000. If you make anything above 850 you're fine. If you made below it, yet were actually smart enough to take it, then something went wrong. Like I said before, my brother took it twice in the same week and made a 950 the first time and almost a 1200 the second time. I don't see how the SAT can be used for anything if scores fluctuate that much.

carpal 11-02-2003 05:53 PM

Mine was something like 1290. Can't complain too much, I guess. It was my first try, and I wasn't about to go back for another.

cjayemail 11-02-2003 07:07 PM

I'm still a senior in high school and only took the SAT's twice.
my score from the first attempt was a 1340, my 2nd time taking the test i dropped a few points in each category.
i havn't gone and wasted my time again, i did alot of vocab/sat strats in my lit. class last year and i'm sure now that I havn't done anything SAT related in about 5 months, my score couldnt really improve, but im happy with it

WarWagon 11-02-2003 07:14 PM

I got a 1270 and got into all schools I applied to, but I think that the SAT's and ACT's and just about any standardized test are the biggest crock of shit, and that they are absolutely worthless in determining just how capable a person is of doing well, and they sure as hell shouldn't be used as much as they are in determining college acceptance, scholarships, etc. I got a 1270, and consider myself damn lucky to have even gotten that as I usually second guess myself a lot and overthink, and I test poorly as a result. Thats part of the reason why I do so crappy on midterms and finals, too, even if I know the material like the back of my hand usually.

The way I see it, the inability to test well is a single "flaw" if you want to call it that, and the fact that peoples careers and educational opportunities are so dependent on it is almost disgusting.

By the way, by testing well I dont mean be put in a scenario, and asked to complete a task. Hell, I'm on the OSU rifle team and do some of my best shooting in crunch time and high stress situations, but stick me in front of a piece of paper and pencil and a 2 hour time limit and its just not happening.

Eldaire 11-03-2003 12:24 AM

1400
Davidson College, but I'm thinking of dropping out and attending an easier college and becoming a teacher. It's what I really want to do, but I don't think my parents or friends would like that decision, so I'm passive-aggresively failing out. Is it wrong that I know that and I'm still doing it? PM me if you want to talk. I'm on a general discussion posting spree right now and I prolly won't check this again.

Gun 11-03-2003 11:12 AM

Took SAT's twice. Got an 1180, and then decided to actually put some effort into it. 1440.

Applied to a bunch of state schools because that's all my parents can afford. I really want to get into Pittsburgh or Tulane though.

soccerchamp76 11-03-2003 11:50 AM

Really really high scores here......damn....a couple perfects, lots above 1400.
1st: 580/580 - 1160
2nd: 570/580 - 1150
ACT: 28

Got into Purdue, but going to apply to SLU and Xavier.

murp0837 11-07-2003 01:10 PM

I think that 90% of you are lying and the other 50% are full of shit. :-)

However, if you aren't, this should officially be considered the smartest forum on the web.

Cornell University - Class of 2004 - Aeronautical Engineering

murp0837 11-07-2003 01:22 PM

Additionally, 2 of +/- 90 people on this thread claimed to have scored perfect on their SATs.

In 2003, 697 out of 3.5 million students scored perfect on their SATs.

National Average of Students Scoring Perfect = 0.02%
Tilted Forum Average of Students Scoring Perfect = 2.22%

Unlikely!

punx1325 11-07-2003 01:25 PM

I got a 1060. I am horrible at the verbal part. The reading always ripped me a new one. My GPA was a 3.7 and I got into my school so I didn't really care.

fienna 11-08-2003 01:17 PM

got a 1060 in the 7th grade... my high school scores were a lot higher... it means shit, though - honestly, all the SAT does is screen out people who REALLY have low scores - you get into college based on your extra-curricular activities more then anything else - honestly. if you're an athlete at all, and are in like 1 or 2 clubs and maybe an honor society or something like that, you're probably going to get into 90% of the schools out there if your SAT's break 1100...

just my 2 cents.

KUGR 11-09-2003 12:16 AM

730 Math
710 Verbal

Got me into the college of my choice, at which I am currently a sophomore :)

tangledweb 11-09-2003 08:09 AM

20 years ago I took my first and last SAT while hung over from a party and on two hours sleep. I made a 1254 and walked away thinking I had botched it pretty badly. It was good enough to carry in my file and I had a football scholarship too so it didn't really matter much.

I wonder how I would do at 37 on the current SATs. Probably not very well.

crow_daw 11-09-2003 09:50 AM

Well, I haven't taken the SAT because in my area its all about the ACT, don't really know whats up with that. But on my ACT I made a 32, with a perfect score in Reading. I woulda had about a 34-35 but my math brought me down a little bit.

aa1037 11-11-2003 12:08 AM

1290 SAT
30 ACT

I'm currently a freshman at Syracuse University

lordjeebus 11-11-2003 12:15 AM

I did exceptionally well. I still received as many rejections as acceptances.

At my school I meet people with perfect and near-perfect scores. Some are true geniuses. Most studied hard and had $$ for Princeton Review or Kaplan.

My girlfriend scored in the bottom 20% or so of people at my school. (She had neither the money nor the time to do SAT-prep, and used her time for much more fulfilling artistic pursuits) Her GPA is probably in the top 25% here.

I don't really understand what the point of SAT is if you can alter your score so dramatically through targetted preparation.

I suspect that low scorers simply aren't posting. They should though.

Denison University and then Michigan State University

I was always pissed because I didn't do well on the PSAT for some reason (probably got my scores switched or something) and therefore lost most of my scholarship chances.

Mango 11-11-2003 01:42 PM

Never took an SAT. I am now an Electrical Engineer.

anti fishstick 11-11-2003 02:50 PM

something like
math: 500
verbal: 530

i remember a lot of the 'smart' kids in my class getting 900's on the SATs then retaking them and such because they didn't like their scores. i maintained a 3.4 gpa and was fine with my score. whatever.

1030 was my first and only attempt.

i currently go to an art institute school

Crack 11-11-2003 06:20 PM

Anyone remember their scores in the ASVAB, the military test, our entire highschool took the test, then about a month or two later, I had recruiters calling my house every day...bastards, turns out that I got a pretty good score, and Uncle Sam really needed me... Bastards, again. I fell for it. I took the ACT about 4 months after high school, and got a 32, I heard that it was a good score, but it really didn't matter then, I had already sighned my life away.

I hate the freakin verbal. I'm sure if i took it again, I'd get at least 100 higher. Oh well. I already got accepted to any colleges that are fine with me.

gorilla 01-30-2005 05:00 PM

I took my ASVAB 2-3 weeks ago, scored a 93. I'll get back to you when im done with ACT/SAT.

Redjake 01-30-2005 05:18 PM

SATs are bullshit. I took it the first time and received a 900 or something. Took it a second time and made an 1190. It depends on what classes you are taking at the time. I remember being at the math part and thinking, "man if I was in algebra II right now I'd remember how to do this." When I took it I was in a bunch of classes that didn't exactly help out on the SAT.

I had a 4.01 GPA in High School and am maintaining a 3.72 cumulative GPA in college without doing much of anything. SATs = BS

FngKestrel 01-30-2005 05:24 PM

13 years ago, after repeated attempts, 1390. That was finally high enough to get my mom off my back. Lots of unnecessary pressure and stress in my opinion. Picked EECS at Cal because I could, failed out a year and a half later, went to San Jose State University as undeclared, switched majors 3 times and finally picked a major (art) that wasn't living up to the whacked out expectations of my parents.

Doing art for games now and couldn't be happier. :D

It's a bullshit system all in all. Not to demean anyone here, but what 17/18 year old actually knows without a doubt what he/she wants to do when they first enter college? And has them take standardized tests to rate their eligibility? Because, you know, all people can be distilled into 2 numbers. Yes, I know it's just a weighted value to be taken in comparison with other factors, but the fact of the matter is that many entrance officials place undue emphasis on SAT scores.

Caveat: I'm a huge supporter of people getting an education, as long as you're going for the RIGHT REASONS.

Lebell 01-30-2005 06:14 PM

I only needed the ACT.

Got a 29 with a 32 on the science section.

God, that was a long time ago...

theusername 01-30-2005 06:27 PM

1180, 610 on verbal 570 on math. Oh well im glad its over. I go to the University of Pittsburgh. I know my score is way above average, the scores in this thread are just ridiculous.

I agree though, SAT = pretty much BS.

reiii 01-30-2005 06:34 PM

1370, verbal 750, math 620

I scored 100 points better in a proctored full length practice exam three days before the test. Luckily I scored well enough to not have to take the test again.

I'm surprised at the gaps in peoples math/verbal I thought my discrepancy was out of the ordinary. Oh and I'm a premed at vandy

fuzyfuzer 01-30-2005 06:43 PM

i never ook the sat only the act since it is accepted everywhere and the sat would not look as good.

but i ended up with a 34 overal and a perfect on the science, which i am extremely proud of i am going to washington university in St. Louis getting a double major in Biology and Business

bbbbbb555 01-30-2005 06:59 PM

math - 760
verbal - 600
Total 1360

i now go to Cal Poly San Luis Obispo

basmoq 01-30-2005 07:53 PM

McFrosticles 01-30-2005 08:04 PM

I got an 1100...both times I took it! WTF!

I go to a local college and love it. I can get all my certs from there

A+ certification test is comin up! study study study

rhaevyn 01-30-2005 08:12 PM

1170 combined. Not sure exactly what I got in each section, but my verbal score was like 20 higher than math.

28 on ACT.

Colleges in America focus somewhat on scores. I think GPA/Classes you took coupled with extracirricular are much more important, but it will be much harder getting into some colleges with 1000. I think if you score around 1200 most schools aren't going to hold it against you.

Scoring higher doesn't necessarily mean a person is smarter, but mostly how well they take tests. I know people that are plenty smart but who don't test well and don't score as high as they should.

I scored a 1330, 710 math 620 verbal. Damn analogies killed me. I got 2/11 on the analogies, scoring in the 30th percentile...scored 95th percentile in critical reading.

TheShadow 01-30-2005 08:46 PM

I took the SAT a bit back with the intent to apply to some universities in the states. However, some issues (tuition cost being the main one) kept me from going anywhere down south.

Math: 780
Verbal: 730
Total: 1510

Arroe 01-30-2005 08:47 PM

740 math
660 verbal

1400 total

I'm a Senior in high school with a 3.9 GPA and I have applied to Boston College, Boston University, NYU, UCSD, and Columbia (extremely unlikely but my parents wanted me to apply there anyway). I'm just hoping that I get into at least one of those schools and I'll be happy.

No way!

With all these genuises just hanging round, we should really start tackling world hunger, homelessness, the whole pre-big bang problem...you know...start small. j/k :)

I didn't take my SATs although I have taken the ACT 3 seperate times. I scored a 27, 31 and 33. I took it once a year starting my sophomore year in high school.

To be honest though, I don't think it's an accurate determination of anything. It seemed nearly everyone who took the test scored well on it and a lot of them scored higher than I did. I remember one of my instructors actually tried to console me and mentioned that I could always try to take it again before graduation.

According to this it translates to a 1470 SAT-wise.

Stiltzkin 01-30-2005 09:22 PM

This test is pure bullshit. I took it feeling like shit and got a score lower than anyone else here got, even though I know I could have done better, easily, if I hadn't got to bed at an ungodly hour the night before. I still got accepted into a college that is as good as any other, so damn it all! ;)
