This is mainly for guys, but i was wondering if anyone beats their chest, or something similar?

I can't fully remember the reason in why monkeys or our anscetors do it? some sort of power or intimidation ritual or something.
Although sometimes when i am playing basketball or maybe another sport i hit my chest a few times (quite firmly, though not too hard, it'd probably leave a bit of a mark), just with my right fist and sorta near the heart on the left side, and it sometimes helps pump me up.

I also sometimes do it if i've done something good (well i think) and its like saying "your the fuckin man" or something to that effect, to myself.

I thought it mainly had to do with physical stuff, but i got a pretty good assesment score the other day and i did it then as well., somewhat unconsciously but then realised what i did afterwards and i was suprised by that.

As part of the team bonding or whatever that goes on in a sport team, i do it a bit there as well, to other players to pump them up. Also "chesters" and "ass slapping" takes place :P
Although we're all heterosexuals ( i think, lol) it has nothing to do with sexual stimulation.

So does anyone else (mainly males i guess) have any kind of physical reaction to themselves to help fire them up or change their attitude/mindset about something?
I find it quite helpful sometimes, no matter how sad that sounds?

I seem to have a problem causing myself pain.

It was done as an intimidation tactic, if I am not mistaken.

Why is it done now? Probably for the same reason. It's posturing, and we all know us guys like to do that.

I must confess I do it too. I think it is more of a boy bonding thing than a fire up thing. Wrestling or something a bit more physical fires me up.

the only time i beat my chest is when i´m copying and taking the piss out of Lleyton Hewitt... or if i´ve got something caught in my wind pipe or something...

i have no doubt that Lleyton does it to help fire himself up, or to keep his intensity going... but it does look a little silly.

umm no don't really walk around beating chest. Seems kind of strange to me, self infliction of pain to show manliness? strange...

I only beat my chest when I'm pretending to be a chimp or something. Also, when I'm about to swing on a vine, I pound my chest too.

Can't remember the last time I beat my chest, I always squint at whoever I'm playing against and flex my muscles and such until they realise I'm being an ass, and throw something at me.
