COFFEE AND THE POPE

When you drink your morning coffee tomorrow… say thanks to the pope who made it all possible.

People began going crazy over coffee 600 years ago in the Middle East. The earliest coffee fanatics were Muslim mystics, trying to stay awake for nighttime worship.

Early coffee houses were such "brewing grounds" for radical ideas that authorities in Mecca tried to outlaw the drink!

When coffee hit Europe in the late fifteen hundreds, priests at the Vatican labeled it an atheist concoction and wanted it banned there too!

That's when Pope Clement 8th gave his blessing to the bean. "This Satan's drink is so delicious… " he is quoted as saying, "we shall cheat Satan by baptizing it."

Many of us still view coffee as a kind of holy water… and wouldn't think of starting the morning… or a new millennium… without it!

Although i am not an addict like i used to be (ie light headedness, some anxiety if i didn't drink it) i just love the taste and the little omph it gives you.

I especially like knocking back brownes IC chill's whenever i am out or at uni.

I, among a very large portion of the membership here, can not function without it. It is to the point at work now that people will not talk to me until I have been there ten minutes, thus allowing the wonderful C8H10N4O2.

coffe really is a gross concoction that I don't care for...
I used to be addicted really bad to caffeine, would get terrible headaches if I didnt drink soda, so I quit it and only drink decaf stuff now (with the exception of the occasional red-bull) and I really do feel much better for it...

i've tried it enough to know i don't care for it. if i really need a buzz, i'll find other ways (sunkist orange soda works brilliantly), but i just don't care for many hot drinks beyond cocoa.

I don't much care for coffee, maybe some french vanilla capucino, but next they'll be calling donuts an athiest concoction. And that's when I rise up to crush their religion. When donuts are threatened.

I'm not fanatical about it, but I do drink it fanatically, I really like the taste, the effect it has on me has basicly worn off at this point from drinking so much of it. A well, ya I'm glad its not illegal.

God bless the blessings that come with coffee, for without it, you wouldn't have anything to ail your massive hangovers when you wake up in the morning...

I can't stand the stuff, nor anything coffee flavoured. I am, however, horribly addicted to caffeine - I drink at least 1.5L of coke a day.

Al that soda etc is nasty, thats also got a shitload of sugar in it and phosphoric acid. Also coffee can be consumed cold and thats how i normally have it, ie iced coffee, wihch basically just menas more milk to form sort of a cafe latte' or whatever its called.

I don't like it either. Only way I can drink is black with TONS of sugar. I have tried a few of the flavored coffees with mixed results, but I generally prefer sodas for my caffeine.
