Things we don't notice that make sense.
 

There are probably quite a lot of things that make a great deal of sense that help us or are around us every day. Maybe something small, maybe something very impacting. What are some things you have noticed that may not be so obvious? Particularly, things that just make sense.

I was thinking about this the other day because of my cell phone. When I have the key lock on, 911 can still be dialed. I would assume most, if not all, cell phone locks are the same way. About a year ago I accidentally hit the nine key while it was locked, but it went through. It simply makes sense. But I doubt I would have thought of it normally.

I actually don't like that feature too much. I would tend to dial 911 accidentally all the time since I shove my phone in my pocket (keypad locked). Enough that they called me back at least 4 times to make sure everything was alright.
I guess this is more of a convenience than "makes sense", but garage door openers. I don't see why everyone doesn't have one. It just makes everything so much easier.

mine doesn't it....and I don't want it to be able to because of the same reasons Jim Kata stated. When I'm feeling I could be compromised or in a bad part of town. I already have the cellphone out and in my hand with me ready to dial 911 if needed.

I'm sure that there are statistics of abandoned calls or phantom calls based on that simeple 9 keypress. It makes sense on paper, not in the real world.

Heck, one time I accidentally called my mom and she thought i had been abducted... she sat and listened to my lunch for 20 minutes.

i think gravity makes sense, it keeps us all on earth and not flying off into space, and it's something we don't often notice (or at least, we don't attribute things to gravity).

I have a flip-phone so I don't have to worry about the key lock stuff.

One thing that I think just makes sense is toliet paper. What a freakin' mess for thousands of years!!

Wearing a poncho before a soccer match to keep warm. I use one and I get hassled heaps but I love it. Heaps of people say when they think no one is listening that it is heaps practical. It keeps you heaps warm (legs too if it is long enough). If you start to warm up you let it flow around you other wise you wrap it close to you. When it comes time to run onto the field you can just throw it off in a second instead of struggling to get it over your boots. Then after the game you can either put it back on or lay it on the ground like a picnic blanket. The poncho just makes sense

My Mother works for a big wireless provider and gave me an old phone. She told me if it is charged up it will go through to 911 EVEN WITHOUT A WIRELESS PROVIDER?!?! we keep it in the car just in case.

I think about this stuff all the time. It's like Seinfeld and his view on the moments that happen in between the things we talk about. I think mostly about phrases. Like "I'll give the benefit of the doubt" think about that phrase. You're doubting but going to give the benefit of the doubt. You can do that with a lot of phrases like that.

the fact that you can harness certain element's tendency to go to a positive or negative state, and combine them to power magical artifacts like flashlights, phones, etc.

Really, without chemistry, no handheld devices of any kind would be around.

Yeah, my phone dialed 911 accidently dialed 911 even without the keypad lock. All of the sudden I got a phone call fromt he police department on my phone seeing if everything was alright.

Windup torches make sense to me. Not very convenient but great if you're really stuck. Like, to keep in the trunk of your car or something.

I can see how that may not be funny at the time - but it's gotta be a bit funnier in retrospect. I wonder what we would have had to cough up for ransom?

As for things that make life a little bit simpler that we may not think about - imagine all the things that a child born today will just take for granted by the time they are in their teens. Growing up with them, will they think about life without such things - or appreciate things we see as small things that make our lives simpler?

in the new bmw 7 series when you open the door, it stays open at any angle.

that may seem like no big deal, but think about it. how many times are you trying to get out of your car on a hill or in a small parking space, and when you open the door it comes back and hits you in the knee because it did not get to the second notch. just my 2 cents.

At the risk of sounding a little psycho -

I love the simple, effective design of my double action 357 Mag revolver. Cock it, and you have time to aim carefully before you pull the trigger. But if it isn't cocked, you can pull the trigger hard and it will cock and fire immediately. It's hard to aim that way, but if you need to shoot like RIGHT NOW, the odds are that you are shooting at something near to you, and precise aim isn't that important.

What about ice? What if, like most things, water got heavier when it got really cold. Instead of floating, ice would sink. Bodies of water would freeze solid. Being a fish would SUCK.

things don't get 'heavier' they just condense.. but ice is the one that expands, thus making it float... it would be annoying if it sank though... then you would have to wait forever to chew on your ice in drinks

what about tv controllers?.. imagine not having a remote control for you tv.. they just make sense


also.. best way to invent something... think of something that 'makes sense' or makes peoples lives easier.. and it will sell

basically, if you want to invent something, make sure it can impact peoples lives to make them lazier
