Miekle, you need to put image tags like this, [ img ] [ /img ] (just take the spaces out), on the ends of the urls to make the pics show.

Like this:

[img]h**p://www.horsesales.com/arkimages/zonk.jpg[/img]

[img]h**p://www.jhepple.com/Pictures/Animals/Ant_Eater.JPG[/img]

After you take out the asterisks "*", this is what you get:

Hope this helps you, Miekle.

well, might i offer some more strange beasts to this worthy collection...

first, i give you the Alligator Snapping Turtle...

it is large, dangerous and extremely well armoured... one even lived in a Gosford sewer for fifteen years.

next, i give you the Bactrian Camel...

a stranger mammal i am hard pressed to find.

the rest of my presentation takes us to the depths of the ocean ... i give you the Manta Ray...

large and graceful this gentle creature is remarkably beautiful for all its weirdness.

nex, i give you the Narwhal...

a strange mix of manitee and unicorn, this creature reminds me of a mythological beast.

and lastly, i give you all, the Octopus...

boneless, spineless and extremely intelligent, this creature comes in many different shapes and sizes.

three cheers for strange beasts.

OK, you've all posted some rather odd LOOKING creatures, but the platypus is still the most bizarre.

As far as I know it's completly unclassifyable by todays standers. Mammels are worm blooded and have hair and give live birth. Platypus are warm blooded, have hair, and LAY EGGS. Birds have feathers, beaks, lay eggs and have wings. Platypus lay eggs and have beaks but no feathers. Not fish obviously.

I'm no expert but that's how I remember what I know about them. Furry, beaks, lays eggs, warm blooded. The only animal I know of that crosses between 2 different genras of animals.

They are classified as Monotremes or egg-laying mammals of which there are only three known species -
the platypus and two species of echidna (spiny anteater).

To add to the list of wierd characteristics, the platypus is the only mammal to produce its own venom.
The male has a poisonous spur on each rear leg that injects the toxin.
While not known to be lethal to humans, a jab will put one in hospital.

The platypus gets my vote for the weirdest. Actually I think he's just proof that God has a sense of humor.
That was my reason for taking it as a nik.

Come on people, you gotta know what an Echidna is, isn't Knuckles (from Sega's "Sonic the Hedgehog") an Echidna?

Thanks for the extra info... Platypus. LOL.
I don't beleive in God so I'd say animals from outter space, brought when the aliens visited the Egyptians or the Druids who made stonehedge... OK so that's a bit absurd so maybe just a fluke in the evolution chain.

Yeah Knuckles was an Echidna. I've known about em since 3rd grade. Thought they were cool but they aren't exactly the most popular animals too. Anytime anyones ever seen em they prolly think they're a hedgehog or a porcupine. Even my dad didn't know what they are. I think you two are probably right given the rather unique features/characteristics of the animal perhaps such an animal more bizzare than it doesn't exist.

Edit: actually they have really huge eyes which red pandas don't seem to have, it might just be because they're young though.

It may not look all that weird, but squirting blood out of it's eyes as a defense mechanism is certainly strange.
Properly called a horned lizard, they're also known as horned frogs or horney toads, and their numbers are dwindling, thanks to the introduction of Fire Ants and subsequent downfall of native red ants.

At first I thought the hand was bloody because it was scraped by the lizard. So far, my vote goes for the star mole. That thing is just too freaky looking to be a normal mammal.

Hi,
Fish don't come much wierder than those that live in the deep sea. Behold:

And the ever-frightening fish of my nightmares, the Viperfish

What makes most of these fish even weirder is the bioluminescence used by their bodies. Oh, and did you know that angler fish males are about a centimeter long and live permanently attached to a female Angler fish, which feeds it it's entire life?
Thanks,

animal lovers...

in our quest to find the strangest beasts, how could we have overlooked the humble BAT...?

these truly strange beasts come in many forms... but today i want to focus on the GHOST BAT.

here is a Honduran Ghost Bat...

here is an Australian Ghost Bat...

note the large ears and noses that aid the echolocation that they use in conjunction with their keen eye-sight to catch their prey.

some species hang from trees...

but most live in large colonies in dark, cool, moist surrounds of caves...

these next two are some of the stranger species of ghost bats...

first, the Peter Ghost-Faced Bat...

and the Greater Bulldog Bat...
