Need a rush? Get your ass to Cedar Point this summer (pics & vid)

I just saw this bitch on TechTV. Looks like I'm going to Cedar Point in a couple of months! This has to be the greatest ride of all time.

I Love Cedar Point. I can't wait to go this year.

snowy 04-26-2003 12:10 PM

That is obviously not meant for someone afraid of heights. But even I could overlook that fact and enjoy the ride :) Looks awesome!

greytone 04-26-2003 01:16 PM

There is a Malibu Gran Prix near me that has "real" dragsters you can ride. If I remember it is something like $10 for three races against 2 other cars. They strap you in. It has a 300 horsepower engine. It is on a track and brakes itself. You stage the car and accelerate when the lights go green. You shift once about one third of the way down the track. The power is unbelievable, but the real violence comes in the automatic magnetic braking. That gave me a sinus headache that lasted into the next day and I have not been back.

This ride looks like it is faster and certainly it involves more roller coaster type stuff. If you want control, try the other.

GuttersnipeXL 04-26-2003 01:32 PM

Where is Cedar Point? That ride looks awesome...Imagine being on that ride, coming back down, and having someone in the front blowing chunks because they ate too much cotton candy! It may sound sick, but I would love to see the expressions on peoples faces as the got off the ride covered in somebodies hurl! Ok sorry for that visual....anyway, rollercoasters are getting pretty crazy nowadays...aren't all the new ones using electro-magnets to propel the coaster cars to those crazy speeds?

Guttersnipe

Cedar Point has the most roller coasters in North America. Gotta go once - plan to spend all day!

I've driven past this thing and it looks pretty scary. Straight up and down - not sure if I want to ride it.

Us white trash Nascar fans don't really care about dragsters. We do care about racing in groups of nine or more, three cars wide at a time, at 180 mph so close to the guy in front of you that you can only see his back window.

Oh yeah, we love freaky roller coasters too.

QuasiMojo 04-26-2003 07:53 PM

WHOO HOOOO, I am actually from Sandusky Ohio. That ride is going to be awesome! It is something like 430 feet in the air. and you go from 0-100 mph in like 4 seconds. total rush.

Ratman 04-26-2003 11:50 PM

Jesus' Tits! That is too cool.

Darklight Adept 04-27-2003 12:08 AM

I feel obligated to update this post... Sadly this incredible ride is down for the count with numerous mechanical problems. CP's official website has a daily status update on Top Thrill Dragster, here is today's...

06/24/03

Dear Valued Guest,
I regret to inform you that Cedar Point’s newest roller coaster, Top Thrill Dragster, is not currently in operation because of mechanical problems.

I understand that this situation must be very frustrating for you, as it is for us. Please let me apologize for any disappointment you may feel because your expectations are not being met.

The manufacturer and our maintenance division have been working around the clock to correct the problems, and we will have the ride back in operation as soon as possible.

Until then, I invite you to enjoy our 67 other rides, including 15 more world-class roller coasters, award-winning live entertainment and other attractions.

Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Sincerely,
CEDAR POINT
Daniel Keller
Vice President and General Manager

P.S. – We are making you aware of this situation on our website because of the extended nature of the downtime, and the extreme interest in Top Thrill Dragster. For more updates on the park, we invite you to call our information line at 419-627-2350 daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.

BTW, Cedar point and Six Flags Magic Mountain are currently tied for "the most coasters" at any single park, they both have 16.

neilz0r 06-24-2003 11:08 AM

i think it's safe to say that i'd be shitting myslef on that ride :D
0-120 in 4 secs would be awesome, but 420 foot freefalls while spiralling is definetely not for me heheheh

mtsgsd 06-24-2003 11:51 AM

I read about that in a magazine. They said you'll pull 4.5 G's going out, zero G's briefly while you're at the top, and -4.5 G's decelerating at the end! Wow.

uncle phil 06-24-2003 12:25 PM

holy shit, batman!

*Nikki* 06-24-2003 02:00 PM

Sounds like hell to me.

G_Whiz 06-24-2003 02:48 PM

15 seconds of sheer adrenaline. Yeoooww.

Unfortunately, I won't be going the CP anytime soon. Still I can dream.

TaLoN 06-24-2003 04:21 PM

it is an awesome ride, but it has been down for repairs on and off for weeks

Rudel73 06-24-2003 05:13 PM

I've already ridden it :)

Take your favorite roller coaster ride and multiply it by about 100 and you get that coaster :) And for you guys that have been to CP it DWARFES the millenium force and magnum

I agree. I'd rather gnaw my own leg off than get near that thing.

Bill O'Rights 06-25-2003 04:54 AM

I grew up 60 miles miles southeast of Pittsburgh, in Somerset County. (yes, where the miners were trapped) We used to go to Sandusky every couple of years to go to Cedar Point. That has to be the best amusement park I've ever been to. Ahh...I miss those days. Hmmm...maybe that would be a nice TFP "get-together".

Daval 06-25-2003 06:27 AM

looks scary as hell. let me on!
