I need an idea for a project
I have to do a paper for my art class. The topic is just to write about an artist. The artist has to be a visual artist, but cannot be someone famous (Michelangelo, DaVinci, etc.) I don't know anyone artistic, and I really don't know what to do the paper on. The paper has to be three pages, and I have to be able to print out a picture of the artist's work. The paper does have to be somewhat autobiographical, with info on how they get inspired to create, their accomplishments, etc. I'll add more info when I get home tonight and paste the part of the syllabus dealing with the paper so you guys can get a better idea of what I need. Any ideas?

I love what Leroy Neiman does. And there should be alot of info on him - he's not real famous but he's famous enough to have alot of info available for your three pages.
Also, his work is pretty dynamic, so your paper will at the very least be bold and noticeable. Let us know who you decided on and why. |
I suppose the consider M.c. Escher a famous artist.
My favorite digital artist (that counts as visual right?) is Greg Martin http://gallery.artofgregmartin.com/ One of my favorite photographers is Noah Grey... www.noahgrey.com |
I enjoy Ralph Steadman's work. I suppose he's kinda famous, though.

Yoshi and I are both *enormous* fans of Jim Booth, a Charleston artist. You can view his stuff at http://jimbooth.com/eComStore/store.asp?page_ID=5 in the Gallery section.
He's very Charleston-centric, but his stuff has been exceptionally well received around the country. Plus, he's pretty approachable, so you might be able to talk to him directly. Just call the gallery! |
not on par famous as your eg. but try Dale Chihuly, i've heard of him, learned of him, loved his works...glass artist. He does paintings but they're...not so good.

maybe there's someone in the FTP creativity forum that you could interview?

as a huge nerd i reccomend Enzo Ferrari. He is considered an artist by most and you have to admit that some of his older cars are extremely artisitics. Plus its my experience that some professors like a weird take on the assignment as long as you dont do it half assed. And there is tons of stuff on his life floating around the net.

john wayne gacy. he paints lots of clowns. i guess he's techinically "famous" but it's not for his art. he'd definatly be an interesting person to do it on.

The term "visual art" is a bit troublesome, considering that besides music, pretty much all art is visual art.
That said, if you wanted to do something unique you could do it on the owner of Wood Song Canoes - one of my hobbies is building wooden boats and this guy has taken it to a level that defies explanation. This guy is a god. Check it out - On the web: http://www.woodsongcanoes.com/wood_song_contents.htm Short bio: http://www.woodsongcanoes.com/about_us.htm |
Bob Sagat (work with me here)
Bob Sagat deserves a paper. Disgust or love the man, he is a true artist. He made a living being a complete moron on television. This is probably useless, but possibly you could construe this into visual art?

Here's an idea I just had.
Miles Davis is know very well for his jazz music, but was also an aritist. This has probably been covered to death, but might work for a paper. I don't know if he would qualify as an un-famous artist however. |
